**** dude, i'd be so pissed off, this is so interesting, i hope this doesn't die. I live in SoCal, so i can't help, but i wouldn't know what to do.

Hey OP i would deff be willing to contact SJPD to help you out though, maybe a coordinated call, everyone contacting asking to check this problem out. With the lines flooded with calls we'd get the guy for sure. PM me if you wanna do this.

    Best wishes

Just wait until he graduates from college and attempts to make something of himself... and discovers that his name is ruined.

Perhaps he's banking on a solid inheritance, maybe he just doesn't care about anything because he values his own life so cheaply. At the end of the day he is a liar and a cheat, and this WILL cost him whether from our doing or his own.

So, he obviously comes from a family of wealth and parents who likely worked VERY hard to bring him to where he is. They could have paid for any prestigious college that he'd want to go to, yet he ends up at a community college because he feels like the party will never end. What a disappointment that they raised a blind fool who would ***** his own integrity out for a few tennis racquets.

if there's one thing i hate, i hate it when people scam others or steal. The worst thing you can do in life is steal. When you steal something, your take away another mans right to have that thing, when you steal a life, you take away the right of people to enteract and engage with that person, and worst of all, when you steal someone's tennis racket, you take away their right to play tennis and for that, i give you a 2 word statement.

    Just die...

This charles guy if i ever find you, god help me, god stop me from destroying every racket i have on your head.

I just bought a racquet from DMN888 and his name is Duc Nguyen. Should I be worried. Sent him the payment yesterday via paypal and he emailed me back and said it would ship monday and be here Wednesday. By the way, I hear people say, check peoples references. How do you do that on an individual? Should I be worried that this is the same guy? Right now I have no reason not to trust him. The last name just freaked me out when I saw it on a sticky.

Hello guys, Nguyen is a very popular last name so please don't assume that I am charles because the first letter in my name also starts with a "C" and my last name is Nguyen. I haven't done many transactions on this board but the few I have done have been perfect. Please do some research before posting something that could make me look bad. Thank you

It probably wouldn't be hard. When I talked to him on the phone about a suspicious deal he sounded like a scared, confused kid.

That is DEFINITELY our boy, Charles.

Same address, and we tied him to the name Ngo as well when this matter first came up.

I am going to try and contact the SJ detective and let them know about the internet fraud Charles pulled here. Maybe they can add some time to his sentence. :)

What total scumbags these people are. I hope they rot in jail. Who the hell would leave their relatives with these people? I imagine the stealing of the SS checks should get them some serious time.

Since he found this, maybe joeyg deserves a reprieve from his banishment?

They were running a puppy mill out of the house. We tied Charles Nguyen to dog dealing a couple of years ago.

I hope he does some serious time in prison. He deserves it.

    Charles BUSTED!

Hi Guys. joeyg is back. Want to thank Diredesire and Fearsome Forehand for their support. Also, the mods for allowing me back. I think you will find a gentler, kinder joeyg from here on out.

Totally cool that SJPD caught to our little buddy, Charlie.

"The five suspects are scheduled to be arranged on July 16. If convicted of all counts, they face up to 18 years in state prison."

So what's the verdict? 18 yrs for that scammer?

Gotta say this is getting very interesting. In the SF Bay Area, this is developing into a major story. It has been on the local news stations since it happened.

I would hope that everyone that was duped by him report it to either San Jose PD or to the FBI.

The reasoning is that if this goes to trial, perhaps this clowns character issues and his internet thievery will count against him. Hopefully, the prosecutor assigned to this case will be made aware of his previous behavior.

If you have been scammed by Charles, feel free to review this thread and get the numbers for SJPD and bombard them with info about Charles.

I guess scamming people on a internet forum is a gateway crime. I know scamming people online is wrong but people make mistakes, sometimes they want to make a quick buck atleast no one gets hurt(except their wallet) but what Charles and those others did is just flat out wrong. I'm sure most of you don't care about his doings on these forums but neglecting the elder especially in the condition that was described is not acceptable. If it where up to me I'd give them more than 18 years is convicted.

Nadler said he doesn't like to follow the "cookie-cutter" approach to doling out punishment. Rather, Nadler says he approaches his job holistically -- asking himself how effective his sentences will be. Sometimes treatment rather than incarceration is the right answer.

Deputy Public Defender Bernardo Saucedo said he appreciated the thoughtfulness with which Nadler treated the defendants in domestic violence court when he had that assignment several years ago.

^ Translation, he is one of those judges. :)

Let's hope he is a dog lover. :)

I can see his decision now.

Charles, greatly disappointed by his inability to make it to the ATP Tour, lost all sense of hope and fell in with the wrong crowd. Corrupted by his family's influence and a victim of the recession, combined with his frustration with being forced to speak English and the prejudice he faced on a daily basis in his adopted homeland, he saw little alternative to going along with their crimes as a means of survival. He was, in essence, trapped by his strong sense of familial loyalty and is clearly a victim of his circumstances. Since he has no prior record, he is hereby released on his own recognizance and will have unsupervised probation for a period of 3 years.

^ No one has been put away yet.

Last we heard they were all out on bail and were supposed to enter pleas on 9/4. There have not been any updates since then.

I imagine they will plea bargain to lesser charges if they are all first offenders. That is unless their lawyer thinks he can get them off. Probably end up in the 5 to 10 year range, out in 2 or 3.

Wow I just read the whole thread and am saddened to see how lethargic SJPD has been on this issue. Good to know that these criminals are currently awaiting trial for some despicable crimes to one of society's most vulnerable members.

    He is still awaiting trial.
Do not believe he has formally pleaded yet.
Still in jail I believe. Did not make bail.

Charles Nguyen, 25, of San Jose, July 16, 11:25 a.m., at 190 West Hedding St. in San Jose, for 14 counts of felony elder abuse likely to produce great bodily harm or death, or willfully causing or permitting any elder or dependent adult, with knowledge of the elder’s condition, to suffer or inflict unjustifiable physical pain or mental suffering; for resisting, delaying or obstructing a peace officer; and two misdemeanor counts of failing to give proper care and attention to an animal. Bail set at $500,000.

This is by far the best thread ever! I'm glad they got him eventho it was for some other crime. You may be over it by now, but I certainly hope that someday you'll see your rackets again.

I have to say that I find it very disappointing whenever I read about my fellow countrymen committing any crime. We Viets are very fortunate to be here in the US and should not repay this debt with unethical conduct.

I would have imagined the punishment to be pretty severe, too, but then again, there's a lot of lopsided and nonsensical sentences in the justice system. If he comes out a changed man, that's good enough for me.

I don't share your optimism about his future, Dire. He seems like a pathological case to me. I think he is going to be a career criminal.

The post that contained the recent news accounts was deleted for some reason (another bizarre decision.)

Bottom line: In a plea bargain deal, Charles and his mommy pleaded no contest and agreed to prison time (up to four years.)
The father died in jail, the sister was released with time served. They are out of jail pending sentencing in late January.

Hope they were made to surrender their passports. I would imagine that they are probably investigating ways to leave the country illegally and avoid a prison term.
