^A different guy. Not the infamous Charlie Nguyen of San Jose, CA.

    http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/search.php?searchid=14172276

    tennis_nut

Nguyen is like Smith or Jones for viets; a very common name.

Besides, the ad isn't written in pidgin English so it isn't out fiend, Charlie.
Hopefully, he has bigger issues to deal with pending sentencing and jail time than scamming people here.

Tennis_nut, given the history, you might want to use a different email address. Unfortunately, due to Charles the Criminal, the name nguyen is sort of a red flag around here.

OK, I was just making sure. If there wasn't so much to worry about from the other guy, I would have taken some more time to research the good seller's references. Sorry!

Thank you for the clarification sir. I am as honest and straightforward as they come. This Charles guy gives us Nguyens a bad name:evil:

I might look into the email change thing. It may make things easier for me here. Thank you for the advice. Take care!

I recently read the sticky at the top of the refs pages, and I saw earlier in this thread that someone was going to try and contact the prosecutors about the scam he successfully pulled 4? years ago. It doesnt say anything about it in the article, but do we know if he is being charged with internet fraud?

No. Too hard to prove at this point. It was years ago and the guys he defrauded are in different countries and different states. But, karma caught up with this creep. He is going to jail for about 4 years or so, hopefully more.

It sure would suck to be in his position right now, I wonder if he thinks about his scam on two unlucky people from this board. Or if he can really remember it at all? Im assuming theres many other things that he did in those 4 years that have caused it all to be a blur. He can probably remember.

I recall seeing a Charles Nguyen on an early morning clinic show on the tennis channel a couple weeks ago. It looked like him in his mug shot too. He was also using a microgel head extreme too, I wonder if it was the one he took from ____ (can remember the username) I believe it was filmed three year ago, so around summer of 2009.

If it was filmed in San Jose, it might be him.

    Just deserts. :)

I was def somewhere in california, I cant remember specifics, but it was him and three other students and an instructor working on forehand and backhand agility drills. He was the slowest with the worst back hand. The instructor picked on him the most.

Gee, it would sure be a shame if Charles' prison mates find out he likes to beat up schizophrenic seniors.

Man, this was an epic thread that all of a sudden took a sudden and dramatic turn for the worst around page 15.

Credit to all of you who worked so hard on outing this guy, even if the crime he's now in jail for isn't the crime we all wanted him busted for.

I feel sorry for the people he victimized, not him. I hope he rots in prison and is victimized by some of the swell people with whom he resides in prison.

Last I checked there was no update of his sentencing so I suppose he is still out on bail pending sentencing.

Did they ever get sentenced? Last I heard, they were released pending sentencing (and that was at the beginning of the year.) Nothing about them since.

Do you have link about the lawsuit? I can't find anything about it on the internet.

Not sure. I believe one of the defendants died in custody, though.

I would imagine that will be the reason for the suit.

Wow I spent like an hour and a half reading this and share many of the sentiments that previous members have posted.

The only thing I find scary and insane is that a user posted pictures of the guys house years back when the OP was trying to get his racquets back. I think someone even said they had knocked on the door? Was this the house that they were using for their unlicensed home? Did the person or people who went to the guys house see anything?

Last time I checked, Charles' suit against Santa Clara had been assigned to another judge. Nothing new about his criminal case...

Someone scammed someone else 10 years ago. OK, bad, but it was 10 years ago, time to let it go, move on.

This should not be a sticky after 10 years.

5 1/2 years = 10 years? I guess we are all older than we thought.

Aside from the sheer entertainment value of this long thread, it serves as a warning both to would-be scammers not to try scamming here and regular buyers and sellers to be careful in their dealings. Plus the thread has a happy ending; the scammer, evidently, went to prison and his life is ruined. Just deserts.

OK, 5 1/2 years but it is still ridiculous to make this a sticky thread about something that happened so long ago.

It would be some extra karma sauce on top of Charlie's desert if someone from the TT community could visit him in the can and say 'Hi from your friends at tt."

I might even let myself believe that all the attention he gathered because of his racquet scam from people here calling the SJPD about it perhaps played a small part in alerting the authorities to the bigger scum-bagginess he was perpetrating as an abusive landlord to defenseless elderly people.

Well I can dream about such a world existing can't I?

I read this whole thread and the other ones involving the racquet scams and I want to say MANY THANKS to those posters, and you know who you are, who went out of their way to do the internet-investigative work on this. I don't believe I heard of anyone getting their racquets back or getting compensated for their losses but if it was me I'd feel a whole lot better about the situation knowing that the scumbag who ripped me off got some of what was coming to him.

Yes, Charles got a couple of guys here really good. Both cases involved trades; one was international (Australia to USA, the other was Indiana to California.) Not much we could do to make a recovery since Charles is one of the few who didn't care that he was exposed as a thief and since these were one-sided trades, there was no paypal or credit card involvement. Given his environment and how his parents were making a living, no real surprise that Charles turned out to be a jerk. Never was able to establish that he went to prison as the news accounts ended about a year ago when he was awaiting sentencing (as was his mother.) Both faced up to four years in jail. Swell people.

IIRC the reason they were caught by SJPD was that a relative of one of the mentally disabled people (all vietnamese immigrants from the SJ area?) whose care had been farmed out to the unlicensed nguyens became concerned and asked the police to check out the house. That is when the abuse (and the puppy mill) came to light.

Hopefully, reading this sort of thread makes people very leery of trading rackets with strangers who have no or few references. That is a prescription for being a victim of fraud.

In general, people here have become smarter about how they conduct deals. The scamming has been down significantly over the past year or so.
We still have a problem here and there but nothing like we used to have.

That said, summer is coming and bored kids will be looking to sucker people into one-sided trades and other scams. If you do a deal here, use good judgment and leave yourself recourse in case the other party hooks you.

DAMN!! I just started reading this thread, and now I suspect it's the reason many people from ttw have stopped communicating with me for racquet transactions as soon as they saw that my last name is Nguyen. Please realize that it is a very common last name.

I've tried to explain that a few times. Nguyen is like Smith or Jones for viets.

There is another Charles Nguyen in Ohio who was a serial killer.
