You guys asked for it and I'm bringing it to you--once again.

Prime Fed v. Prime Mac--who usually wins on hardcourts.

P.S. If you think that Chopin is one of the most exciting and dynamic posters on the boards today (or, off ALL TIME), write "Chopin is my TT Hero" in your signature.

    Kind regards,
    Chopin

Ehh...you know those so-called "masterpiece collections"...not everything in them is a masterpiece. No, this poll is about bringing the people what they want.

But do believe me, Borg, some of my upcoming threads will be gems. I've got something special planned for the boards.

Listen, don't be jealous Borg. I'll be happy to write you into a future hypothetical scenario with your hero, Rodney Laver.

4-1. WOW. Mac OFF to a surprising early lead. This time tomorrow the story should be QUITE different when the PEOPLE rock the vote.(1)

(Footnote 1) Chopin's use of caps is a possible reference to a particularly angry TT poster.

Another sensational thread to draw attention to yourself.
If you really want attention, why dont you stop hiding behind the Chopin alias and make a youtube so everybody can see the real person behind all these sensational posts ???

8-7 in favor of Mac right now.

The cognoscenti are still in the majority, but yes, soon the unwashed hoi polloi will trample. . .

. . . and burn the Library at Alexandria, led by the demagogue Chopin.

Chopin do you have any new tricks? Or is it always

"top player of current era" vs. "top player of past era"

I mean seriously...come on. You can't make so many masterpieces out of the same recycled stuff.

Well my recent thread: "Tennis Demagogues and the Self" was indeed a masterpiece, but it was too sophisticated for most TT posters.

    Have a look: http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=290242&highlight=self+chopin

I agree though. That's why I've got something special planned for the boards in the coming days.

You should have made it a public poll so we could see who voted for JM.

I do like this post with the Ancient Greek references. I want to give you a lot of credit for this post. I'm considering making you my next Gold Star Poster of the Week.

Chopin, we touched on this topic in another thread of course. I did notice that you used the premise "on hard courts" vs. "the US Open". New York would provide a big advantage for McEnroe in my opinion.

I terms of "winning usually on hard courts", I would still give the edge to McEnroe, but by the slimmest of margins, perhaps 6 out of 10 matches. I think Federer would have a tough time with his return games against the McEnroe serve and volley. Then, he would face an ever-charging McEnroe at the net as often as possible, during his service games. Plus, McEnroe's lefty serve to his backhand would also produce a lot of free points and make him difficult to break. Having said that, Federer's more complete game would lead to several wins on hard courts against a "prime" McEnroe, and make such a series quite close, in my opinion.

quite a few have mentioned here and in the other thread fed would find it difficult to handle mac serve ( and S&V in general) . He wouldn't have it easy , agreed.

How about looking at the other side ? How would mac handle fed's serve ? how would he break fed ? Baseline games are not on the same level and chip and charging isn't really going to work that well against a passer of fed's calibre who can hit passing shots from anywhere in the court

At their peaks I'd call them equal on decoturf, would give Fed the edge on slow/medium HC,clay and modern grass,Mac the edge on old grass and carpet.

Both McEnroe and Federer have had shall we say "their moments", when things aren't going their way in a match. McEnroe gets a lot of flak for his behavior (entirely warranted), but Federer seems to get off pretty unscathed by the public, though he is usually very calm in comparison to McEnroe and many others (Nastase, Connors, Tarango, and even Roddick).
