I have answered this before a couple times. Basically he left the team in the fall in his junior season. That's all that needs to be posted on this forum. Last I heard he was out somewhere in Arizona not playing tennis.

Clemson man, do you think Chip Cox can become the Clowney of tennis and go undefeated against Clemson in his career? :D

Except for the part where Chip Cox lost as a team to Clemson his freshman year and has personally lost to a Tiger in his sophomore and Junior years, including blowing a 6-3 3-0 lead vs Dom Maden(he lost 12 of the next 13 games) and getting routined by Gerardo Meza.

If the Blue/Gray is infact using Disney scoring that means that 14 of Clemson's regular season matches will have been with that format. 13 with the regular real format. So much for "experimental"

also I don't like that our first real format match of the year will be South Carolina.

Things not so comfortable anymore. The result is actually seriously in doubt. Need Harrington in this first set.

Another strong win for Ansari leading the charge. Johnson looking to run at 5 to continue the trend of Clemson locking down 4 and 5.

    Sala rallying

I know him. He was briefly on Clemson club tennis until he moved back to India. Didn't know he still followed Clemson tennis lol

And I have no doubt Clemson is being feisty, I'm wondering if there was seriously anything against the rules done or Princeton just isn't used to playing a feisty team.

Clemson up 3-1 but hardly out of the woods yet. Augusto and Sala both going to 3rd sets and Harrington leads 1-0 in the 3rd. I have faith that Harrington can win this one.

Harrington needs to finish this soon. Princeton has the momentum on 3 and 6. 5-3, I think Harrington is serving for it.

edit: Harrington broken serving for it. Now McCourt will try and send it to a tie-break. Not good.

Princeton twitter again calls out a Clemson player. This time Augusto for taking an injury timeout at 2-5 down in the 3rd. Ok maybe they have a case there.

But it seems Princeton isn't used to intense college tennis. This stuff is common.

    Harrington in tie-break.

Augusto breaks and holds to stay alive. Still down a break 4-5

    McCourt defeats Harrington.

But Augusto has fought back, broke and is now in the breaker for the match.

wow! Augusto wins it 8-6 in the breaker! Princeton layer apparently saved 3 match points. What a heartbreaker for Princeton and what a rally from Augusto to save the Harrington collapse.

    Clemson 4-3 Princeton

    The good
Augusto rallying down 2-5 in the 3rd to show guts and pull out the big win.

Dom Maden pulling out a big first set and then rolling in the 2nd set.

Johnson and Ansari continuing to lock down 4 and 5

    The bad:
Harrington blowing his 5-2 lead in the 3rd to get another unranked loss. He cannot continue to have these if he wants to get into the ITA nationals at the end of the year.

    Getting beat in doubles

Sala failing to justify his selection at 6 over Dudley.

    overall:

Good to get a close win over a team that dug really deep to attempt to get the upset. In the past a Clemson team would have lost this match but the team has grown a backbone the past 2 seasons.

Reverse heartbreaker today. Boise gets revenge from last year in the NCAAS. The bottom of the line-up was the difference.

Great win for Harrington today crushing Bettles 6-1 6-1. Bettles was a guy who routined Yannick Maden last year so it's good that Hunter was able to get such a convincing win, good bounce back from his heartbreaker to McCourt.

Also a very solid win for Dom Maden at #2 over who I consider to be a good player in Sereke(even though his results haven't been the best recently).

    That's where the positives end.

It's very surprising to me that Boise was able to take it to us in the bottom 4 courts the way they did. Surprising loses from Sala and Johnson. Dudley needs to be placed back at #6, I don't know if Sala beat him in a challenge match or something but Dudley didn't really do anything in matches to lose that spot.
Augusto could not follow his big win yesterday with a positive result.
Ansari could not pull out the win when it mattered after winning the first set 6-2. I have not seen any source thus far revealing the 3rd set tiebreak score. That would be nice to know.

This tournament will turn out to not be so good for the ranking. Even if Clemson beats Texas Tech it will be wins over #60 and #55 and a loss to #41.

Yannick Maden defeats Tiago Lopes 5-7 6-1 6-1 in the Boynton Beach Future semis. He will face former Kentucky star and NCAA runner-up Eric Quigley in the final. Would be a huge title if Yannick could take it

Just saw the Boise report and it said the tiebreak score on court 4 was 11-9. Damn. I wonder if Ansari had any match points.

I hate to say it, but the Clemson women's team web pages are the biggest disaster in the ACC. Just try to find a roster, for example. They have a 13-month-old story "2013 Outlook" featured there. The 2014 QuickFacts PDF has a roster in the lower right corner.

I was curious about the roster because the following players are listed on TRN from recent recruiting classes, and none of them are there:

    Hermon Brhane of Germany
    Monica Kochanova of Slovakia
    Hsieh Shu Ying of Taiwan
    Liz Jeukeng of Florida
    Carola Pederzani of Italy

These are just the last four recruiting classes who should still be eligible. That is a lot of turnover (five of the twelve recruits from the last four years). Any idea why?

scores finally reported for Texas Tech match:

    Clemson 4, Texas Tech 2

    Singles
    1. Hunter Harrington (CU) d. Felipe Soares (TT) 6-5, 5-6, 6-1
    2. Dominique Maden (CU) d. #101 Hugo Dojas (TT) 6-5, 6-4
    3. Alejandro Augusto (CU) vs. Francisco Zambon (TT) DNF
    4. Luke Johnson (CU) d. Johann Willems (TT) 6-1, 6-4
    5. Maxime Hinnisdaels (TT) d. Fernando Sala (CU) 6-4, 6-3
    6. Jolan Cailleau (TT) d. Robert Dudley (CU) 2-6, 6-3, 6-2

    Doubles
    1. Harrington/Maden (CU) d. Dojas/Maxime Hinnisdaels (TT) 6-1
    2. Augusto/Dudley (CU) vs. Felipe Soares/Johann Willems (TT) DNF
    3. Ansari/Johnson (CU) d. Carlos DiLaura/Francisco Zambon (TT) 6-2

looks like Ansari sat out after playing in doubles, left us exposed at 5 and 6 but good thing the top got it done. Another ranked win for Dom Maden.

    Clemson ranking tomorrow:
For these rankings only 4 wins are countable

    #26 Ole Miss: 56 points
    #28 Auburn: 54 points
    #51 UNC-Wilmington: 32 points
    #55 Texas Tech: 30 points
    172 points

    losses

    #14 Illinois: +1.3
    #41 Boise State: +1.8
    +1 = 4.1

    total score: 41.95

Looking at last year's rankings 41.95 would have been good enough for #14 in the first computer rankings of the year. So I am thinking Clemson will be ranked in the 13-17 range tomorrow.

wait wait forgot one wrinkle in the formula.

forgot to add the +4 to the losses. This means Clemson will actually be around 21-24

JLyon: Thanks for the info. I eventually found a roster that lists the Italian, although the PDF I mentioned does not.

Not sure why you provided a link to Jeukeng's TRN page. She is not at Clemson, as I said.

Clemson stays at #21. One of the few schools outside of the top 4 to stay in the exact same spot. Next week our ranking will be hurt though because Ole Miss which was one of our top wins is not counted as an unranked win and get this next week the win over Presbyterian will be a more valuable win than the win over Ole Miss.

Harrington falls out of the top 125 in singles. That's because Aita fell from 44 to 120, greatly reducing the quality of that win. Aita is back up to 87 though and just beat Silverman after the ranking deadline date, so the Aita win will again probably be enough to sneak Harrington into the rankings next time. As well as the win over #83 Bettles.

Interesting Clemson has nobody ranked and is #21

I wish the team had had a match or two this weekend. Like not a big one but vs ETSU or something. A challenge but still should be a win type of match. I don't like how the first match of the season for Clemson with the real scoring will be vs South Carolina.

    Clemson Tiger:

Saw your post in the other thread about the Palmetto State matchup this week. I know Clemson/USC have a pretty good rivalry going in both football and baseball, althought USC has gotten the better of Clemson in both of these sports the last few years.

How's the tennis rivalry between the two schools?

Looks like USC has a pretty highly rated class this year sitting at #2 in the TRN early season rankings. Saw they also landed a high rated top 10 class a few years ago. Clemson, on the other hand, seems to hover around in the top 20-35 in recruiting rankings the last few years.

I was under the impression that Clemson the better tennis program between the two schools, but it seems as though that USC is attracting more of the top talent. What has made USC a more attractive tennis program than Clemson the last few years?

Jack Leggett couldn't beat South Carolina if his life depended on it. On to tennis...

South Carolina has beaten Clemson 5 of the last 6 in tennis. The 3 in a row from 2008-2010 were when Clemson had a really poor team in the early McCuen days, recovering from Kriese's abrupt departure and it was during the height of the Gamecocks Brazilian contingent of Cubas,Machado,Cuellar and Campos, they had salty teams back then and the rivalry was a mismatch. In 2011 Clemson won because SC lost almost everything and had a very poor team that season.

The last two seasons have been two very close 4-3 matches. Last year Wibowo blew a set and a break lead vs Pinheiro that eventually cost Clemson the match 4-3. In 2012 in Clemson, Meza served for the match at 6-5 in the 3rd vs Machado but the Brazilian was able to fight out a win and get the match to SC 4-3. I think overall though Clemson had the better season in last year as the Tigers were one set away from the Sweet 16 while SC got blown out by UNCW in the NCAA 1st round.

The programs right now are basically split even. The reason why SC gets higher recruiting rankings is because Goffi is a more aggressive recruiter of American players. He gets players from New York like Andrew Adams and Sam Swank and from Virginia like O'Keefe and others. Clemson never gets an American player unless they are very regional such as Rigsby, Harrington or Hampton Drake. The last two American players who Clemson pursued and almost got who were not in the region were Wyatt Lippert who went to Ohio State and never played and Patrick Kawka who went to BYU and was ranked a lot of the time, he would have been a good addition. So SC gets higher recruiting rankings because of their American players. Clemson is more reliant on international players like the Madens, Meza and the new Spaniards and more.

Historically Clemson is the better program but SC has had patches of success of their own. Facility wise it's equal. Both have good outdoor facilities and awful indoor ones.

Wednesday will be a tight match. I will talk more about it as we get closer.
