    Tigers win!

Apparently Goldin didn't get a return in play. Two aces and two service winners for Johnson

Great win. Have to agree it did not look too good when we lost the first 4 sets in singles.
Again the team do the business in the doubles.
And a ranking win for Johnson.

I could sense the inner conflict here during the match. I think Clemson_tennis is also a secret fan of FSU, judging by recent postings. :)

I was particularly torn up about Blake Davis blowing a 6-3 4-1 lead and then getting walloped in the match tie-break.

Good win today for the Tigers:

Doubles was great. Great win for Harrington and Dom Maden at #1, they should be ranked coming up soon. #3 was a cruise.

    Singles:

    1. 90 Harrington def 122 Cotrone 7-6(5) 6-4
About exactly the type of match I expected, two tight sets to Harrington.

    2:Maden def Davis 3-6 7-6(4) 10-2
This was sweet sweet icing on the cake. Even though the match was decided, very nice to see Maden rally from 3-6 2-5 down. A guy on a Clemson forum said "there was no love lost between these two" so I bet there were some fireworks on this court. The tiebreak was a good old-fashioned beatdown

    3: Augusto def 86 Gonzales-Mendez 7-6(6) 6-3
Excellent win for Augusto. The tiebreak in the first set was a very pivotal moment in this dual match. CGM has been on fire recently and this is a great win for Alex. He has turned into a very good #3.

    4: Nunez def Ansari 6-2 6-1
Very surprised by this result. Ansari had been in good form and Nunez in terrible form. But I guess this was just a bad day at the office for Ansari and a bad matchup.

    5. Johnson def 116 Goldin 3-6 6-3 6-4
Very strong comeback from Johnson. He served out the match in style with two aces and two service winners. Johnson is now 12-1 on the dual season. Big improvement from his record at Florida.

    6. Albo def Sala 6-1 6-2
#6 is now officially a problem for Clemson. Lett and Sala have now been shellacked at the position recently and Dudley has had some shady results as well. Dudley is probably still the answer but maybe even try Zachary Kennedy here? 6 will be important down the line, so it needs to be remedied soon.

The goal now should be top 16 and hosting in the NCAA tournament. In order to jump from 22 into the top 16 we will need an upset win over one of the following: Notre Dame, Wake, Duke or UNC. Notre Dame probably being the most likely because it is at home. Also must avoid an upset loss vs Virginia Tech or NC State. It's pretty clear that Clemson is better than teams in the 30s, it's yet to be seen how much upward mobility the team has.

Just thought of something. I wonder why Clemson did not do their usually early season trip to Athens this year.

I know UGA refused to go play in Clemson when Clemson was down in the doldrums, but with Clemson finishing top 25 last year, Clemson probably wanted UGA to come up to Clemson but I bet UGA still said no.

Clemson will need 2 upsets i think. The line between #13 and #25 is real close but other teams are also winning.

Up to #20. The match vs #11 Notre Dame coming up is vital. If we can win that then likely will jump into the 16 range and in discussion for hosting. Lose and it will be much harder to upset Duke, UNC or Wake at their place.

vs #11 Notre Dame at home tomorrow. What do you guys think about this match?

Notre Dame was really hot to start the year but has waned just a bit recently. This is a very important match for Clemson if they want to get into the top 16 discussion for hosting. Certainly winnable and it will be close. i do not expect Notre Dame to overwhelm Clemson. Notre Dame does not stand out in any one spot nor are they weak in any one spot, just solid all the way throughout.

Im going to concede #6 to Notre Dame but after that I cannot safely predict a winner at any one spot.

Very hard for me to read these two teams (Clemson and Notre Dame). Do they have any common opponents already?

Not yet. Notre Dame barely beat Virginia Tech which is a team that is probably not as good as Clemson so that result encourages me. However I really cannot read this matchup either.

Doubles point to the tigers after routs at 1 and 3.

    I'm looking at 3, 1 and 5 for singles.

Monaghan pulling a Bernard Tomic. Let's see if he can beat the 28 minutes it took Bernie to lose yesterday.

Things not looking good though here. Harrington was up in the /nd looking to rally but now he's down again. Courts 4-6 look to be sinking

Dom Maden says in his post match interview "They are #11 so this match won't hurt us". Yes true but what hurts is that the opportunity to move up is now gone. It's going to very hard to beat Duke or UNC and impossible to beat UVA. Beating Wake now seems not so hard but their ranking is going in the tank fast so a win over them won't mean as much now. Outside the top 16 is pretty much confirmed now for Clemson.

thats right and well Clemson has not beaten really anyone to proove a Top16 ranking
, also their wins got a lot better yesterday, as SC, Ole Miss, and FSU all won games vs ranked teams. Clemsons best win was Texas Tech i think and thats all, Princeton maybe or Ole Miss.

Yes Texas Tech doing well is helping right now. They just upset Louisville too. Another one of Clemson's top wins is over Auburn. But yes so far no top 30 wins. No awful losses either.

they ll need a little mircacle , i think, the teams behind are not better..but the teams ahead of them..
    #15 Vols ..are fading..
    #16 Florida, is a top 16 team
#17 Cal, has lost lot of places, and the chances to beat USC/'UCLA are weak, and those 2 are the last to improve their rankings
#18 Wake Forest , is fading, Clemson still plays them!
#19 Columbia, is sitting very pretty on Top20
Clemson could get to 18 i think....but higher?

Harrington and Maden got into the rankings at #25 in doubles. They are in good position for nationals now. Still undefeated on the season they are.

Harrington goes to #82 in singles.
Augusto must be getting close to the rankings now with wins over #64 Cochrane and #65 Gonzalez-Mendez. Maybe Maden as well with wins over #95 Dojas and #102 Kallberg and with few losses.

I have always thought that Austin Ansari was an Indian brother until I looked at the player pictures recently on the Clemson website. I was shocked to see he's not!

Weird scheduling this week means Clemson will have to play on consecutive days vs NC State then Wake.

NC State tomorrow. The Pack are coming off an awful weekend in the sunshine state so they will be ready for this match and really needing this win over the #22 team in the nation. It will be another close one. Teams are quite familiar with each other. NC State will probably look to create another Weber vs Ansari match because Weber won both of their meetings last year. Harrington is 2-1 vs Mudge in his career but has never faced Powell. Dom Maden has beaten Powell before but never faced Mudge. Should be an interesting one. For some reason I am kinda feeling a Wolfpack win. Hope I am wrong though.
