good rally from Augusto, who was down 1-5 but just lost 7-5 in the 2nd.

    Now need all remaining courts.

Looks like Harrington has gone in the tank from serving for the match to losing 6 straight games. If Johnson wins at 5 that turn at 1 will sting.

particularly painful because Maden actually won the 3rd and Johnson still leading in the 2nd. So that was the match. Barring a crazy comeback now from Harrington.

That score on 5 has been all over the place - now showing Johnson won 7-5. It was showing he was down 5-6.

Regardless of the outcome on #1, still a great showing by Clemson today.

I never really gave my full thoughts in the UVA match. Obviously it was one hellvua effort and really should have broken the streak considered how UVA was hobbling coming in. This was a real chance, not one of those "well if he converted the break there and he didn't double fault there..." connect the dots type of chance, but a real chance. All we need was Harrington serving out the 2nd.

Excellent win for Dom Maden at #2 vs R.Shane, a player he lost to twice last year.

Also a great win for Luke Johnson at #5 vs a highly ranked player.

Augusto had a good fight back at court 3, down 5-1 to tie it at 5-5. Almost was able to flip the meltdown at #1 and retain the Clemson lead but Thai-Son was too string at the end of the set.

Not a bad effort from Dudley at 6 but still he needs to win a match very soon or we need to try Kennedy or Strawn at 6 because so far Dudley/Sala/Lett aren't getting it done.

Not the best match from Ansari vs Justin Shane who has been the most vulnerable of the UVA players this season outside of Harrison Richmond.

At the end of the day its nice to see the effort but also it really hurts that the team could not get this win. This win would have been more than just an upset, it could have been historical and one that the rest of the ACC has been pining for for 8 seasons.

Looks like Clemson actually is putting Kennedy in at 6. I like it. Let's see what happens there. Could be a good boost

Really dangerous natch today. Virginia Tech is on a roll and Clemson is coming off a tough loss to Virginia. Senior Day for Dom Maden so hopefully he's pumped up. So far Clemson has avoided a big upset loss this season, but this one could be it. Need to really be up for it.

Easily win doubles. Doubles is not really the Hokies strong area though so this doe snot diminish the test I expect in singles.

Johnson and Maden get first sets. Augusto was up 4-2 in his set but now trails 5-4. He's playing against the player with the least aesthetically pleasing shots in college tennis.

3 first sets to Clemson. 2 to Virginia Tech. Big tiebreak on court 6. If Kennedy can get that then there is breathing room for Clemson

Some flipped scripts on courts 5,4 and 1. 4 and 1 in favor of Clemson and 5 in favor of VT

they updated all the other courts so it could be a very long one. Or better chance that the live stats operating is oblivious as to what happened

    3-0 now.

    Maden def Bjerrehus 6-3 6-4
    Augusto def Koontz 7-5 6-3

need Johnson or Harrington to get a 3rd set now.

Ansari forces a 3rd. Kennedy falls. Tough to overcome that 13-11 tiebreak loss. I think he should get another shot at #6 though.

Johnson was up a break 3-1 but now its back on serve.

whoa livescore suddenly shows 6-3 to Nicoud on court 5. I like to be let down gradually geez.

But Harrington up 5-3 in the 3rd. Let's see if he can close it out this time.

Live scores showed that Ansari won 6-3 in the 3rd so I stopped following. Now twitter says that we won 7-6(5) in the 3rd in a 3 hour match.

Harrington moves up to 56. That puts him in good position for the individual tournament. Has a good shot to make it now.
Dom Maden makes his debut in the rankings at 99.

    Throwback Thursday.

    April 12, 2009. #30 Duke 5, #59 Clemson 2

    doubles point to Clemson.

    Singles:
    1. Reid Carleton def Carlos Alvarez 6-1 1-6 6-3
    2. Kiril Dimitrov def Rok Bizjak 2-6 6-3 7-5
    3. Dylan Arnould def Gera Boryachinskiy 6-4 7-5
    4. Jared Pinksy def Ike Belk 7-6 7-6
    5. Alan Michel def Kevin Fleck 6-3 6-0
    6. Kevin Galloway def Luke Marchesse 7-6 6-1

This was the first college match I really got into and this is the match that got me into college tennis. I remember court 1 being a really weird match. The end was dramatic. Clemson trailed 3-2 and needed both Belk and Bizjak to win their matches. The two seniors battled side by side on senior day trying to get Clemson an upset win during a very rough year. The crowd was very good, great college tennis atmosphere. I remember Belk's backhand going wide in the tiebreak to give Pinsky the win and Belk's look of being crushed that that was how his career at Clemson would end. Bizjak ended up falling to Dimitrov as well. but it was still great to see the two battle side by side with the crowd very loud and vocal.

So glad to be past these times though. Quite frankly seeing those names again in a Clemson result sheet makes me cringe. Not a good time for Clemson tennis from 2008-2011.

I signed up for the Duke all access. And I am stuck here at the doctors for a few hours so I will get to watch this match.

I'm feeling like Duke is ripe for an upset. Need to get the doubles point and apply pressure on them early.

I saw that - it amazingly could come down to that 3rd set at 2 if Clemson can hold the lead on the other 3 courts.

I certainly will. This is ridiculous. This is the most critical point of the match and Clemson has a serious shot to win this now

the scoreboard is a mess as well. This is shameful from Duke athletics. Why would it work fine for 80% of the match and now go haywire and not work at all.

7-0 but at 3-0 it truly looked like it could swing 4-3 to Clemson. I don't know if Ansari ever led in the 3rd though because of live stats screw ups. Johnson and Augusto led in the 3rd.

Having no answers at 6 is really an issue. Most matches this year Clemson has been able to get doubles which cancels out 6 then it's whoever wins 3 out of the top 5. But when we drop doubles it's really an issue because its effectively going down 2-0 each match. Woulda been nice to get Chi-Shan (Tulane #3 who almost chose Clemson). Dudley can't win at 6 against the teams Clemson needs to beat. Sala and Lett can't either. Maybe Kennedy but he lost to Gomez who isn't exactly a world beater. It'll be an unsolvable problem,

Maybe next year the young players will not be so young and #6 will be a stronger position. I thought Fernando Sala would be good enough for that position this year; maybe next year.
