    Clemson twitter just tweeted "proud of this young team". Losers lament. Losing Maden next year; 5 players couldn't make up for the heart and ability he brought to this team. Hate it for him that he will never get to play in the NCAA final 16s, he deserved it with the helluva year he put up. This was an opportunity to get to Athens which other than UGA would have been the closest team to the site, a lot of fans could have come to watch the team face off with a top team in Oklahoma. Now they will sit at home and watch Kentucky go there, probably without Jomby because the injury was likely serious if he had to retire at 2-2.

    This is worse than the Tennessee loss last year.

    Obviously once the dust clears this will go down as a better season than what was expected before the year. It's just terrible to not take an opportunity when its given to you.

    Does anybody know for sure that Jomby retired. I just came from the Georgia match and Bill the photographer told me that someone texted him that Jomby had been defaulted.

    I highly doubt he would do anything stupid enough to get defaulted at 2-2. We would know for sure if UK hadn't abandoned their blog they had been running all year. Everywhere I saw says injury.

    This is one is up there with all Clemson sports heartbreakers in my lifetime that I have witnessed (did not actually "witness" this match but live score heartbreaker).

    up there with:

    Losing at Chapel Hill in basketball after having a 17 point lead with under 8 to go in the Purnell years with Trevor Booker.

    2004 football vs GT. The "bad snap" game.

    2007 Football vs BC. The Matt Ryan back pass game.

    Baseball losing back to back to the Gamecocks in the 2010 world series.

    Jomby was quoted saying he heard something pop or snap...not a good sign.

    If it makes your feel better Memphis had two match points serving to close out Illinois 4-1. They lost. This is the first time I've been able to bring myself to mention it. So shut up! LOL :wink:

    how long is the McCuen leash? If I was the Clemson AD I would have fired him the moment Kentucky beat Clemson. I actually would have fired him 3 years ago.

    what do you think the length of his leash is like?

    Disappointing loss for Harrington 4-6 7-6(5) 6-4. He had a decent chance at making the round of 16 with Adams win over Lenz. No he will have to get ready for doubles.

    Well, well, well. If it isn't my good pals Hunter Reese and Mikelis Libietis in the semis. Last year the Maden bros took them out in Knoxville. This should be a good battle

    Clemson chose Duke for Indoor Regional. Wonder if they did that because they think they can beat Memphis, because they haven't fared too well against Duke lately. Duke will be better next year than last. Should have gone to Kentucky, in my opinion. Could've beaten Vandy and Kentucky.

    Very boring selection. Memphis will be rebuilding and not as good a matchup and then given recent history vs Duke, not likely to win and then get to play them later in the year. Should have chosen the #2 slot in Gainesville. Newness gives more of am NCAA feel so if I was coach I would try and choose a new location each year. Not sure how the players are supposed to get excited about Durham again.

    Interesting match for Memphis from my view. They have a very good incoming freshman class plus a top JUCO transfer. They return their #1 a senior and #8 a soph. Possibly their #5 but that is a longshot. Memphis will be happy to go to Durham.
    Pressure is on Clemson.

    Nice qualification for Ansari in the Pittsburgh future. Harrington got a WC and will face Schafer of SC in round 1.

    Last week Harrington lost in 3 sets to top 500 player Facundo Mena. Mena is 21, a pretty good prospect and rolled in the next couple rounds. So not a bad result for Harrington.

    I live in upstate New York and I was able to get to matches both in Buffalo and Rochester. I saw Mena play Marcus Fugate in the first round in Buffalo and I thought Mena was horrible. Fugate is no longer on the tour and is a teaching professional in Rochester. He plays a future once a year and he crushed Mena, winning 3 and 0, and doubling the amount of points. Mena didn't have anything to his game. No serve, forehand, or athleticism. It is baffling to me how he was 450 in the world. The two guys he beat in Rochester besides Harrington did not impress me either. So I wouldn't put too much stock into Harrington's loss, especially when you take into account Frank's dismantling of him today in Pittsburgh.

    Decent results from Ansari. Defeating former Bama #1 Jarryd Botha 7-6(4) 6-4 and then taking Dane Webb to 3 sets.

    Feddie prediction. Given your track record and since you didn't pick them to win it, this scares me. Now it's safe to say Clemson will either go out early or just take the title. LOL

    It's good to see the guys playing in futures this summer. Ansari and Harrington have been hitting the tournaments in the USA. Dudley and Johnson doing work on the islands. Augusto has also played a couple. In previous summers Clemson players have not done much tournament play.

    Daffra Sanon is now on board. Had some decent wins at 6 last year for UW. Didn't play a ton though. Will probably plug into 5 and 6 from time to time

    Yannick Maden qualified for a challenger in Bosnia-Herzegovina this week. Lost in the first round to Nils Langer 6-4 6-7(6) 6-4. That's his first challenger main draw I'm pretty sure.

    I hope to see him step up even better to the challenger circuit soon.

    The players are in Athens this weekend.

    two players in D1 draw
    Ansari vs Dromsky
    Luke Johnson vs Pablo Gor from Armstrong Atlantic

    Drake, Lett and Sanon are in the D2 singles draw.

    Strawn, Sala and Harris in the D3 draw

    I wonder why Harrington and Augusto are not playing here.

    Not a lot will be learned in this tournament. I don't expect Johnson or Ansari to go anywhere further that the round of 32.

    And nobody in the D2 bracket has enough clout to be a "good win" for any of the 3 Clemson players in that draw.

    Strawn and Harris will never play in the dual season so however they do vs the tomato cans in the D3 draw really does not matter. I'm surprised Sala is in that draw though as opposed to the D2 draw. If Lett is in D2 than Sala certainly should be.

    Athens review: Ranking the players based on performance in Athens this weekend..

    1. Hampton Drake
    def Benjamin Salle, Lander: 6-3 6-4
    def Jose Gracia, Florida State 6-4 6-4
    def Aaron Gomez, Virginia Tech 6-3 6-3
    def Eric Diaz, Georgia 3-6 6-4 7-5
    lost to Michael Kay, Georgia Tech 7-6(7) 7-6(7)

    Good opening weekend from Drake. Beat lower line-up ACC players and Diaz showing that he can fit into the bottom of the Clemson line-up rather well. This was the most positive result of the weekend for Clemson.

    2. Christian Harris
    def Stefan Burnett, FAU 3-6 6-3 6-1
    def Luke Morland, Gwinnet 6-4 6-4
    def Garrett Gordon, CofC 7-5 7-6(1)
    def Lachlan McPhee, Gwinnett 6-3 6-2
    def Baker Newman, Vanderbilt 0-6 6-1 6-4

    Yes it was the Division 3 singles flights but its still a good showing for Harris to take the title in it. He likely will not play this year anyway but this at least boosts him a little bit higher in the pecking order.

    3. Daffra Sanon
    def Thibaut Leoussoff, Lander 7-6(4) 3-6 6-2
    def Paul Cisti, Charlotte 6-0 6-1
    def Sebastian Yllera, 6-4 3-6 7-5
    lost to Peter Bertran, 7-6(3) 6-3

    The win over Yllera is a good one. Stringing some wins together is a good sign for bottom of the line-up play. The loss to Bertran is not a bad one, he is a string freshman player.

    4. Austin Ansari
    def Andrew Dromsky, Tennessee 6-1 6-0
    lost to Wayne Montgomery, Geeorgia 6-1 6-2

    Good easy win over Dromsky. A good sign because Ansari often goes through spurts and lulls in his matches and has a a lot of matches end wth 6-1 1-6 6-2 type of scores. But that was a complete match against a decent player. The blowout loss to Montgomery isn't bad as he blasted almost every player in the draw and will be playing higher in the line-up than will Ansari.

    5. Luke Johnson
    lost to Pablo Gor, Armstrong Atlantic 6-4 6-4
    def Florian Nicoud, Virginia Tech 6-3 6-4

    Looks like a bad loss in round 1 but Gor then went on to defeat Rakitt and Nunez as well. The win over Nicoud is decent because he was a significant player in the lower part of the VT line-up.

    that's the top 5.

    Harrington, Augusto and Dudley did not play here for unknown reasons.

    team schedule released

    pretty weak schedule. Non conference there is the Blue/Grey, usual rival South Carolina and Auburn but after that it's all cake.

    Hopefully they represent the ACC well in non-conference. Not sure how great Auburn will be this year, so hopefully that is a win for Clemson.

    Clemson players in Tulsa:

    Harrington is in the main draw

    Pre qualies:

    Alejandro Augusto: vs Alberto Demeo UNF. I like the draw Augusto has. Butsch is a super weak#1 seed and is beatable and nobody in the lower half of that section strikes any real fear into anyone's heart. Augusto has a good chance to qualify for the qualie draw.

    Luke Johnson: vs John Micahel Busch LSU. Johnson has a 50/50 match in round 1 and would likely be in another 50/50 match with Gornet. Qualifying is probably a bridge too far.

    Daffra Sanon: vs Yannick Junger UTSA. Sanon has an interesting match here. Junger is favored but it will be interesting to see how Sanon does.

    Christian Harris: vs Jayson Amos Oregon. If Harris can win this one then maybe he can start being thrown into the top 6 discussion.

    Brent Lett: vs Zach Wilder Ole Miss. Match between two guys who will not play in top 6 in a serious match all year.

    Austin Ansari: vs Henri Wiersholm Virginia . Bad draw for Ansari, getting one of the strongest players in the entire pre-qualie draw.

    Robert Dudley is not competing again. Hampton Drake is not playing in Tulsa after his encouraging weekend in Athens last week.

    Augusto qualified like I anticipated. Had a nice win over Chi-Shan in the final round.

    Sanon got a good win over Junger before falling to Seraphim.

    Johnson had a somewhat disappointing loss to Gornet

    Harris was killed by Amos

    Lett had two routine wins before falling to Ben Davis

    Ansari was blasted by Wiersholm. Shame he got that draw.
