Well any chance of winning this match just went away with Harrington losing the first set tiebreak to Lock.

Augusto mimics Ansari as both lose the final 9 games of their respective matches.

It's one thing to completely give in and let it go vs Virginia or even Duke or UNC but this was against FSU. A team Clemson has beat the past two seasons, has out fought. But today the team didn't put up any resistance. I mean getting blown off the court by Rinaldi? A guy who two years ago choked his guts out vs Zac Rigsby and cost FSU the win, you're going to just roll over for that guy?

Clemson this year is a far cry from the team two years ago that went into Tallahassee and rallied from a set behind on 3 courts to steal a precious win. Even a far cry from last year's team that gutted out a tough win at home vs the Noles. I don't think this current team is capable of gutting out anything. They had just rallied from a big hole in doubles to take that point, you would think the team would be ready to jump out and carry that momentum into singles. But instead FSU took it to Clemson. And this FSU team is not any better than the previous two years, it's Clemson's team that is worse and I am not sure why. Obviously the loss of Dom Maden was huge, but even with that I did not expect this team to be this much worse than last year. I thought there would be some drop off, but at the end of the day did expect them to make the NCAAs.

Augusto and Ansari both lost the last 9 games of their matches. Drake got crushed by a mediocre player at best and Sanon... well like i mentioned he simply didn't show up today at all. And Harrington can't buy a win at the moment. He played some good tennis at points, looked aggressive but Lock was too solid overall. Only Johnson showed fight today both in doubles and in singles, even though he wasn't able to get the win in the end.

Did anyone else watch the espn3 broadcast at all?

It was a good broadcast. They showed some of every court. I liked that as opposed to showing only #1.

The announcers weren't that good. They were discussing things like the finish in a shot or why players bounce the ball before a serve. I don't know why they thought their audience would be people who have never watched tennis before. There wasn't much talk about the college format or the teams themselves.

It was very FSU centric, with close up shots of Lock's footwork, interviews with Rinaldi and CGM. Not to mention one of the announcers was a dad of the Whitehurst twins and the other announcer is an FSU grad (Jessica Davis). But hey FSU took the initiative to put these batches on espn3 so they deserve to have a little bias thrown their way in the broadcast.

Oh and the broadcast ended after the match was clinched but courts 1 and 5 finished their matches. Proving it is possible to broadcast matches with the traditional format.

I watched for just a few minutes during doubles and the lady was explaining what happens when a toss is off and how important that is to a serve.

FSU is actually paying for and producing those telecasts so that's why they're going to be more FSU-centric.

Well if there ever was a good time to play Duke it would be now. Duke has this match with Clemson tomorrow sandwiched between a hard fought win over Wake Forest and a huge matchup with Virginia Sunday, very easy to overlook Clemson. The only way Clemson has a chance is if Duke comes out supremely flat and not ready to play and Clemson comes out ready to go.

Can't be too discouraged about the effort. Team came ready to play and put themselves in position to win. Tremendous effort from Augusto to push Alvarez, Harrington played a decent match despite fading at the end. Drake came out strong and ready to bring it after a great rally in doubles, ran out of that adrenaline in the 2nd set. Very glad to see Luke Johnson get a win. He deserves it after being the only player to truly show up the last few matches.

Ansari and Sanon getting blown off the court didn't matter so much, got them off the court and got the guys who came to compete on court quicker (Johnson and Drake).

Must win tomorrow vs Louisville at home. A lose would mean season over. It's a match Clemson should win really. The lineup changes should remain. Augusto at 1 and Harrington at 2. It's tempting to move Johnson up but I would leave him at 5.

I don't know how you can really say Clemson is supposed to win this match, Louisville has much better results and even at home Clemson is the big underdog.

I expect them to have closer matches with this new line up. Before Harrington and Augusto could not get a win at 1 and 2. Seems now they are giving up the 1 spot and trying to get the win at 2 by stacking Harrington... It could work with Johnson in good form and doubles looking good.

Don't see anyway Clemson wins at 1 or 3. Will need to sweep all the 50/50 courts.

Drake from 1-5 to up 6-5 in set.

4-6 looking good. 1-3 not. Need Harrington to turn it around

Another loss today but still nc State/unc/notre Dame and wake on the schedule. Win two of These four and maybe one match at accs and still can be in ncaas.

Guys I can't pull a Kirijax! There's still season left.

Chris, gotta beat NC State, Notre dame and UNC. Need to sweep. Plus probably another in the ACC tournament, because the record is a factor now.

It was disappointing to lose the doubles point vs Louisville, that would have been a huge boost going into singles. Doubles had been a strength going into Sunday.

In singles. Augusto faired okay considering his opponent, he had a break lead in the 2nd 3-1 before losing the last 5 games of the match.

Harrington had an extremely close match that was decided in 3 tiebreakers and he finally got a win albeit it was after things were decided.

Ansari routed again. This was expected considering form and the fact that Wagner is a pretty solid #3.

Johnson routs Lippens. Luke is one of the most in form players in the ACC right now, unexpected regain of form considering his early season troubles.

The real shame of this match was at 5 and 6. Just like they did vs South Carolina, Sanon and Drake both blow set leads and ultimately that was the difference. I don't know if it's an issue of stamina or what but Drake has had serious issues in 3 setters this year.

Losing Harrington and Augusto and right now the only incoming player signed is a junior college transfer who has been injured for the better part of a year (Arturo Pinazo, Laredo CC). None of the sophomores have shown any big signs of improvement. So you tell me how next year looks.

it looks not better as this year for the record but maybe even worse talent...but maybe Clemson-Coach gets another transfer from somewhere (has UVA too many players like Daigle last year?) or gets 2 freshman from overseas (like the Madens..)

Well whoever they get it needs to be a top of the lineup player, need to allocate a lot of money for the player because Clemson does not need another lower level line-up player, next year the huge issue will be at the top.

    1. New Player
    2. Drake (based on potential to get better)
    3. Pinazo
    4. Sanon
    5. Johnson
    6. Ansari (could revert back to freshman form and be a very strong #6 like he was that season)

this is complete guesswork at this point though.

Harrington's last few points vs Gornet

At what point does Clemson coach get on the hot seat? No reason this program should be as mediocre as they have been lately.

That's what I have been saying. All this talk about where competent players are going to come from shouldn't be necessary. I have heard Chuck McCuen is a nice guy but he's been there for how many years? 7? And been to the tournament how many times? Twice?

And in case you wonder. I am a Gamecock tennis fan but I also like Clemson to do well. I am not from the USA originally so I do not have the rivalry hate.

Nothing will get fans to a college match faster than an 11am match on a Friday. Just ridiculously dumb to hold the match at that time tomorrow.

NC State is coming off a big win over Wake. Clemson CAN win this match but it'll take a lot and will probably need doubles for sure. Mudge always plays well vs Clemson. Norenius is in great form. I would say Clemson would need 5 and 6 for sure but Sanon and Drake can't really be counted on to finish matches. This match will probably end like 5-2 to NC State. I really hope Clemson can win and I want to think a good performance from the whole team is due for this match. They are going to have to prove it though.

I've seen Pianzo play. When healthy, he's at least as good as Mate Cutera Tyler JC transfer now at Miss St. having a good year at 3/4.

Leonard Ivic (#1 for UIW) told me Pinazo was very good and better than himself when they were teammates at Laredo. He's a lefty right? Clenson hasn't had a significant lefty player since Ryan Young. (No I'm not counting Derek DiFazio)

5 first sets to Clemson as Johnson takes it over Powell but Augusto falls to Mudge.

NC State rallying in the 2nd sets however
