First games Thursday, a little more than 100 hours away! Already some stuff going on with Braxton Miller out for the year.

Aggies without their Johnny kick it off on the road vs The Ole Ball Coach and his Gamecocks.

Who ya got for making the first playoffs now that we finally have a system in place???

Those on the board know I'm pulling for a repeat with Jimbo hoisting that very impressive new trophy! Looks very Lombardi-like!

Can Jameis be more famous than Archie Griffin with another Heisman???

    Go NOLES!

    Why not Iowa?

When the discussion turns to contenders for the inaugural College Football Playoff, ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit says the Hawkeyes deserve at least a mention.

“At the end of the day, I look at Iowa with all those positives. And you look at their schedule,” Herbstreit explained. “They don’t play Ohio State. They don’t play Michigan State. They don’t play Michigan. Most of the teams that are expected to compete in the Big Ten West are coming to Kinnick Stadium.

“When you have an experienced quarterback and a schedule like that, things tend to work out sometimes, for a team like Iowa.”

As always, I can't wait for the season to start. My Hokies have a great shot at winning the Coastal Division, as they don't have the ACC big 3 of FSU, Clemson or L-ville on the schedule this year and Miami is at home. The same question comes up this year (as it does every year :()...Can their stout D make up for a questionable O? Probably not. :) I'm interested to see how L-Ville does in their first season (probably very well). We keep waiting for Clemson to break through but they never do, so FSU should take the ACC again. Thank goodness for a playoff this year, as no one team looks like a world beater (though FSU deserves to be the fave). I take that back...maye Iowa? :)

Clemson will have to knock Winston out of the game early to have a chance. I don't like our odds at Georgia this weekend either. A 1-2 start is likely.

    That's always a possibility. :)

I think r2 knows the chances of Iowa winning the national championship are about even with Kentucky winning the SEC in football this year. :)

Who needs Johnny Football??? Aggies putting on a clinic vs the Gamecocks! New QB Hill has 350+ yards in less than 3 quarters.

Kenny Football? Sumlin looking better and better as a QB groomer...a big raise or move to a top 5 program or NFL won't be far away. Many were saying this was Spurrier's year to win the SEC (but 'they' said that last year, as well :)). Really looking forward to Clemson and the Dawgs-big chance for Georgia with SC losing early. LSU and Wisconsin and Bama vs WVU might be entertaining.

If he could just keep his QBs out of trouble...Hill already has a police blotter, arrested for public intoxication, suspended and then reinstated. You're right though about the coaching skills...they lost 3 offensive starters in the 1st round of the NFL draft and it's retool and reload time. Let's see them play some "D" this year.

FSU in the Saturday night spotlight...going into The JerryJonesDome for a tough opener vs The Cowboys of OK State, who might have a better defense than Jones' 'Boys.

We're thin on experience at WRs...thankfully Greene stayed for another year but the rest of them are babes. Expect a lot of running behind a solid O line and O'Leary to get a lot of targets at TE. The D looks strong...Mario Edwards Jr. will excel on the line and the secondary is loaded with NFL-level talent.

    FSU 38-14 is my guess!

The only one who would love an OSU/FSU title game more than me is Jimbo! He will put a beatdown on subUrban that Meyer will never recover from.

This just in...fix the running game and fast, Jimbo! I'm not happy at all about that vs OKState.

Oregon did Oregon things in their opener. Hard to take anything away from a win against South Dakota.

However, we get Michigan state and college Gameday next week, so things get real, quickly.

Wisconsin actually seemed to match LSU's speed and made a game of it...they'll be a tough out in the Big 10 and they have a young team. Bama looked shaky and FSU looked VERY shaky against a young Okie St. Neither game should have been anywhere near that close. The Dawgs were impressive. Of any SEC team, I've wanted them to break the Bama stranglehold more than any other squad. No reason they can't win the east after watching SC get lit up. And to top it off, my Hokies weren't Chokies against The Tribe (love William and Mary, having lived in 'Bill'Burg for a few years). Great first weekend.

That's a great match up. You need to book a flight, Big! :) I was with the family at Disneyland the day after Mich State's Rose Bowl win last year...a ton of people walking around in their Spartan gear, very friendly and very happy. They will have a nice showing of fans in Eugene.

Huge win for Oregon today. Punched in the mouth in the second quarter and we came out and dominated the second half. The last couple years I'm sure we lose that game, so I'm very proud.

If Mariota isn't atop all the Heisman lists after his performance, there is no justice in the world.

Kevin T! VaTech! Great win for your hokies my friend.

As a U of Louisville fan, it's super exciting to have them playing in the ACC. Without their star receiver though, Devante Parker, for 6-8 weeks, we're probably looking at 8-4... maybe 9-3. The nice win over Miami was a good start.

Thanks! Biggest win in many moons for Tech. Our D line just decimated the Buckeyes and the offense finally looks respectable. Not bad for a QB in Brewer that's only been on campus a few months.

Oregon looks good, Big. I had my doubts early on but they just wore Mich St down and turned it on in the second. Mariota and Gurley are the top two for me, right now.

Another banner day for the Big 10...Michigan gets worked by ND, Nebraska barely escapes an FCS school and their two best in Mich St and Ohio St go down. Ouch.

There's a Gurley man in Athens that is in the mix for the JameisJohnny trophy. Winston looks a bit flawed so far.

Props to Beamer for gigging subUrban. No other coach I like to see lose more than that arse.

Two best??? Iowa won. Still rolling toward the national championship.

Iowa down 10 with 5 minutes left and Jake Rudock leads them to victory. He's clearly leading the Heisman race.

Stuck inside due to rain so I finally watched a full FSU game vs NC State. We are hurting on defense and made terrible mistakes on offense and special teams to make this a close game. But, in the end, we won with some new weapons emerging and an offensive line that ground the Wolfpack down. Greene was great except for fumbling a punt. Jesus Wilson is a nice WR and Dalvin Cook will take a load off Karlos Williams at RB.

Injuries have made us thin on defense. Time for young ones to step up. Featherston at DE/LB could be a beast...6'7" and rangy.

We'll stay in top 4 if we stop making mistakes and the defense can grow but we are far from #1, despite the polls and defending a title.

Penn State with a very poor showing today. I kind of expected it though. They scraped by against mediocre teams, and blew out a bad team. Whoopie. Honestly with the guys they have, they should be better than this. Right now I'm putting it on the coaches. Obviously franklin and co. won't be as good as bill obrien was, but it's been unacceptable so far. To be fair though, the guys (especially Baby face aka hackenberg) haven't been executing well either.

    Yes for sure.

Reading the details of how the extortion attempt from the girl he "sexually assaulted" went, tells me a few things about his past transgressions :

-He has bad taste in choosing his side pieces

    - He has very good taste in seafood.

    - He enjoys internet memes a little too much.

    - He should not own a BB gun.

And thats really it. Still waiting in ESPN to publish the latest in the Jameis case, but I guess that's not going to happen.

Saturday will be a historic day in the SEC West...three games involving six top 20 teams playing each other:

#3 Alabama at #11 Ole Miss

    #6 Texas A&M at #12 Mississippi State

    #15 LSU at #5 Auburn

One loss so far for these six teams (MSU over LSU).

Alabama & FSU are obvious frontrunners. Hate to say it, but Alabama is tops so far. Now in picture with chance are:ND, A&M, & BYU.

Im bot sure if we can say anyone is tops right now.

I like that ND is considered a contender. So when FSU beats them, I hope they finally get credit for beating a good team, even though every FCS team we have played so far has only lost to one other team besides us - UGA.

If there was ever going to be a Saturday to have lousy/stay indoors weather locally (northeast) then this is it (if you follow college football). Today's lineup features some interesting matchups involving highly-ranked teams and making them even more interesting is the fact that the underdogs are the home team in most of them.

3 Alabama vs. #11 Ole Miss (at Oxford, Ms.)

Lane Kiffen's 'Bama offense vs. Huge Freeze’s defense up front looks to be the big question. However, I think 'Bama wins on the other side of the ball by forcing turnovers from Bo Wallace, Ole Miss' interception-prone QB. Wallace has already thrown six picks this year. Alabama is going to look to rattle him and they will: Alabama 24, Ole Miss 13.

    Player to watch:
    Amari Cooper, Alabama WR.
    C.J.Johnson, Ole Miss DE

#6 Texas A&M vs. #12 Mississippi State (at "StarkVegas," Ms.)

This game could be the most fun to watch if State doesn't get caught up in the moment and play too tight at home in Davis-Wade Stadium, home of "more cowbell!" The jury's still out on A&M's defense while Mississippi State's never been known for their offense. That said, MSU does have a duel pass/run threat in QB Dak Prescott who shares some similarities with former Mizzou QB Brad Smith. On the other hand, A&M's QB Kenny Hill has picked up right where Johnny Manzell left off so the A&M offense vs. State defense side of the ball will probably decide this game. MSU has a great front 7 however they're susceptible to the big play over the top. Can MSU keep up with A&M point-wise? My heart says "State" but my head says "close, but no cigar." A&M pulls away in the end, Texas A&M 34, Mississippi State 24.

    Players to watch:
    Kenny Hill, Texas A&M QB
    Preston Smith, Miss. St. DL
    Benardrick McKinney, Miss. St. LB
    Dak Prescott, Miss. St. QB.

#4 Oklahoma vs. #25 TCU (at Fort Worth, Tx.)

TCU usually known for their defense has some offense this year. If there's going to be an upset, this game looks to be the one. Frogs 27-24.

    Player to watch:
    Trevone Boykin, TCU QB

#9 Notre Dame vs. #14 Stanford (at South Bend, Ind.)

On paper, Stanford is overall the better team, again, on paper (ND's a 1-point home dog). ND could prevail should Gholston have a good game and keep the turnovers to a minimum. Stanford QB Hogan is not on the same level as Gholston play making ability-wise. While Notre Dame hasn't really played anybody, Stanford has looked lousy in their own right, losing to USC and looking sloppy and flat up in Washington. This one is impossible to call, but what the hell, Stanford 21, ND 20.

    Players to watch:
    Everett Gholston, Notre Dame QB
    Will Fuller, Notre Dame WR

#5 Auburn vs. #15 LSU (at Auburn, Al.)

LSU is talented but looking at how their young defensive front got steamrolled at home against Mississippi State, Auburn (playing at home) should do more of the same. Auburn 31, LSU 17.

    Players to watch:
    Nick Marshall, Auburn QB
    Cameron Artis-Payne, Auburn RB

^^^Your heart is not having an attack right now. The Christopher Walkens are up on the Aggies and exposing A&M's defense!

Speaking of the bovine johncauthen effect, one of the home dates in FSU's disastrous 0-11 season in '73, my last season in Tallahassee as an undergrad, was versus the Bulldogs. The noise was deafening every score, even on the road!

Well the jury's not out on the Texas A&M defense anymore. Turns out that they haven't hardened up from last year's soft unit. And Mississippi State's QB Prescott has got a little Tim Tebow in him as well - guy's a beast. A&M's line can pass block but they're not running against MSU's defensive front. MSU's pretty much beating them to the punch in the trenches and beasting them on the ground like they did LSU. If Mississppi State holds on, with Oregon losing and assuming Ole Miss and ND loss, they jump well into the top 10 and Prescott's enters the Heisman conversation.

MSU just scored again. 41-17, 2:00 to go 3rd quarter…..game over. Nice win.

Dakman throws better than Tebow. Otherwise, you're spot on...Down to the jersey number. Mullen finally got himself a talent to carry on his offensive wizardry developed in Gainesville.

Gruesome leg injury to Bama WR Drake. Meanwhile, Ole Miss has dominated the Tide but is only up 3-0...TDs not FGs, especially missed FGs!

Wow. Bama falls, ND somehow wins, & could Oklahoma lose? And gotta respect Miss St. now.
