I am told that a 14 year old player has received a full scholarship offer from a US college. Is this within the recruiting rules? Is there an age/grade limit? Thanks for reply.

No, it is not within the rules, unless he is graduating very early from high school.

Coaches cannot initiate recruiting contacts (letters, phone calls, emails, etc.) until July 1 after 11th grade. Generic brochures about the school can be sent in response to contact by the player, but an agreed upon scholarship offer means the kid is entering 12th grade right now at age 14.

I hope the rumor is untrue. A men's college coach, in particular, would be insane to make an early commitment, because boys mature a lot physically from 14 to 18, and judging future college success at age 14 would be impossible.

    I agree.
ClarkeC, I remember flying in to Charlottesvile over thirty years ago to see a girlfriend. I recall seeing Edgar Allan Poe's dorm room, among other things. Great trip!

Poe was a drunk who couldn't survive here, but he got famous so now we brag about him at UVa. :)
