Since 2012, both Andy Murray and Roger Federer have won titles on more than one surface, while Nadal has failed to reach more than 1 solitary final on any other surface. This means that both Murray and Federer are more versatile than the clay specialist Nadal.

Didn't Nadal reach the Australian Open final, which is played on a hard court?

He certainly did. He's been in 5 finals this year, 4 of them on clay (French Open, Monte Carlo, Rome and Barcelona) all of which he won and 1 on hardcourt (Australian Open) which he lost.

I wonder why the OP chose to only compare nadal? Why not djokovic, are you going to call him a hard court specialist because he only won titles on hard courts this year?

Murray and Federer have had a great year with Federer being the most versatile player out of the two by winning titles on three surfaces this year. Let's see what 2013 will bring
