Congrats Federer - 10 Titles on (Red) Clay, Grass, and Hard Courts

Gotta tip your hat to Federer for being the only player in history to win 10 titles on red clay, grass, and hard courts. This is another one of those achievements that may stand the test of time, as it is difficult to imagine Djokovic winning 8 more titles on grass courts and Nadal winning 7 more titles on grass courts.

Federer also has the record for most titles outdoors with 64, one more than Nadal.

LOL at Istanbul trophy. A new tournament, probably heavy on app fees, with no Nadal or Djoker, tailormade for Federer to win a title. It is almost as if he created the tournament for himself.

He won. Deal with it.

Should we not count Nadals title in Buenos Aires then?

Fantastic stats from Betterer, the undisputed GOAT and most versatile player ever :)

That was for comeback purposes. Istanbul was just about Fed getting a clay court title after, well, forever.

Oh, okey, so Nadal is allowed to play on his best surface in 250 event for comeback purposes, while Federer, who has early losses at the FO, got eliminated by Monfils in MC, is not allowed to gain form, or strive after his clay-form?

Sorry. But Federer won. That's all there is to it.

What's most impressive to me is that Federer has so many indoor and grass titles. Considering how few of those tournaments are left, that is incredible dominance.

So, Federer has won at least 11 indoor, outdoor, grass and clay titles.

That is amazing versatility.

You sure meant lately...( Laver and Rosewall probably won about +20 of each...).

Anyway, Federer showing he is still able to win on clay (even if a small tournament) at 33 y.o., not bad at all.

Another record?!!!!!!!

Does this guy ever stop?

It beggars beyond belief when of late Nadal fans scoff and mock the tournaments that Federer has won lately when Nadal himself hasn't even won anything of value in approximately a year.

Maybe Federer should start losing to Fognini in straight sets in consecutive matches on his best surface to get their respect.... or lose to a 34 year old qualifier journeyman Michael Berrer to really get their accolades... or better still lose to a greenhorn 17 year old Borna Coric to really close the deal.

That's right.. the very tournaments that Federer won eg Basel,Halle,Shanghai et al were the ones that Nadal ALSO PARTICIPATED IN HIMSELF but was too rubbish to barely even get close to the final.Maybe that's his problem after all.

Federer's achieving more at the near age of 34 than a guy who is 28 and supposedly in his peak years.... Embarrassing!!

Maybe they should also be reminded who beat the runaway Number 1 player in the world in straight sets without losing his serve in Dubai who goes by the name of Novak Djokovic..... One thing's for sure... it wasn't Nadal.. he was too busy getting pounded by that same player on his favourite surface in Monte Carlo in straight sets.Irony abounds ;)

There is nothing wrong with any top player using a 250 or a 500 to tune up for a major coming up.

Only the bizzarro world of this forum does any player not get credit for winning a title.

Both Nadal and Fed are struggling to get confidence on clay this year, so they are doing exactly what they should do to prepare for RG.

I agree. I don't see the problem.

That's the advantage of being Roger Federer in his mature years as a player. Everytime he steps on a court he is in a position to establish a record of some sorts :)

Yeah, old Fed doing better than prime Nadal makes Federer look even greater. And on clay too, that is even bigger surprise.

Old Fed winning Dubai without losing a serve, that is just insane.

But some people still doubt Federer. They still think it's a weak era when Federer is winning.

I think people are underestimating how hard this is... To win 10 titles on grass nowadays you need to be a phenomenal grass player (there aren't that many tournaments on grass y'know). At the same time, you need to play pretty well on the polar opposite surface, clay, since many Southern European and American players specialise on that surface and are tough opponents on it.

Particularly for a guy like Federer, who hasn't played that many smaller tournaments on clay and whose prime coincided with Nadal's best years (arguably the best clay courter ever), who sweeped most of the clay swing at his best, this is quite impressive IMO.

Not only that, but Federer won all those titles on different surfaces under tons of different generations and conditions. Surfaces and styles were a lot different in 2003-2007. Masters changed from 5 to 3 set finals during Fed's reign. Also Hawkeye was introduced too.

That's why I think Federer is the best. He can adapt to any situation, that is amazing problem solving.

Plus another amazing record, he did it all without ever retiring from a match or skipped a major, which proves his mental and athletic abilities as well.

true that - he lost what, 14? times to Rafa on clay and would have been in pole position to win the vast majority of those tournaments without Rafa in them.
