LOL, I would be very surprised if you did that .... considering how much less you know about the modern era...... at the very least you could watch/learn before arguing with others who have actually watched plenty ...

Yeah it pains me cause I prefer Cristiano but Messi is on path to GOAThood

Since u have been following the sport for a while, who'd win in this hypothetical dream match up: Guardiolaesque Barca or Sacchi/Capello's dream Milan teams

sleep peacefully ? you think that depends on your opinion ........ LOL, I'm having a good laugh here ......

hewitt was a far better player than haas ... face it, you just haven't watched much of hewitt or even haas for that matter ... you are just trying to blow up haas now because he beat djokovic recently .....

it seems rude when you don't acknowledge a poster's point when he/she is right ....when you only respond to contradict ...

yeah, but you haven't done that for the 2000s .. watching matches, getting to know the players etc etc ..

timnz, Good points and rather convincing.

Yet a few remarks: Rosewall was at least equal good in 1962.

Laver took some profit in 1967 by Rosewall's partly decline that year, by Ken's surprising defeats by Gimeno in two pro majors. Plus he could beat Rosewall (33) only in five sets at Wembley.

You are wrong that Laver won every pro tournament of significance: he lost several tourneys with tough competition to Rosewall (L.A., San Francisco after leading clearly and Newport Beach).

But generally you are right. I just wonder why Federer declined so early (at 26/27 according to his heavy fans).

I think you agree that a great player has not only one peak year. His peak comprises a few years even though it might cumulate in ONE year.

By the way, I just could not fall into sleep. Before standing up again now, I had many thoughts about tennis history. F.i. I realized that Rosewall has just another edge against Laver: In their common pro days before open era (1963 to 1967) Rosewall won four majors against Laver in straight sets while Laver won only one in straight sets. And Rosewall lost three in five sets while Laver lost only one in five.

abmk, Considering your always aggressive tone I must be in sorrow of your sleep...

I admire Haas not only because of his backhand but also that he is so strong as an old player. He not only beat Djokovic but also the younger (then himself) Federer last year. I doubt that Roger will be as successful in Tommy's age of now (35)

I never said that I was polite to everyone . I'm polite to good posts. I don't mind having a snipe at illogical posts .......unfortunately for you, you make a lot of them ...

just ignoring logical arguments because you can't digest the reality/facts is worse than being rude at times to illogical posts ....

not just according to me ... its a fact ... you yourself have admitted you haven't watched much of the modern players ...

when you say peak levels of nadal/djoker are much higher than federer's ..that hewitt wouldn't be top 10 in other so called stronger eras .. when you say one of federer's weaknesses is lack of touch shots ...putting peak levels of newk, roche, becker above federer's ......its blatantly obvious you haven't watched much ....

I don't know as much about the 60s as I do about the present era, not even close ... but I do know far more about the 60s than you do about the present era ... that's the difference ....

I never said anything remotely close to implying that ...

lol, that's so typical of you ...another biased post vs federer .... I assure you federer at 35 will be much better than haas at the same age .....

yeah, haas is doing very well now for his age and the level of player that he is ... but peak to peak , hewitt was quite a bit better ....

and again, I gotta smile at the BH comment .... federer's BH is a bit better and you call that a weakness of his ......watch some of the haas vs nadal matches to see how badly nadal has abused haas' BH ....

even in many of the fed-haas encounters, federer has come out on top in the BH to BH exchanges ...

abmk: Here we are at an important point: You are WRONG that ignoring logical arguments is worse than being rude to illogical posts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can blame me for my stupidity in a serious manner but you are not entitled to show your rudeness and hate to people who don't agree that your God is really God!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If we human beings want to live together I am obliged to respect each other at least as long as the "opponent" is respectful to me!!!

I only tend to be nasty as an anwer to nasty posts. There was one exception: when I called Dan Lobb an idiot (for his sometimes wrong arguments). But I have apologized very soon for that insult.

The Federer armada has attacked me at every word I have written about Roger and about Rosewall. This culminated in heavy insults by Limpinhitter ("Günter Parche") and ARFED (thread). You are intelligent enough to not going so far but I feel your hostile mood almost in every of your posts. Instead of insulting me, you and others should rather blame ARFED for his unbelievable threat. I never read such a critic to him!

You (and others) should stop and come back to serious conversation!!!

To make it clear: I know I'm also not perfect!

I have been watching football before you were born
I d like to include in the lot 1970 Ajax and late 50 Real Madrid to make the big four of european club soccer
Other all time greats that left mark were 60 Inter 70 Bayern and Liverpool and I also consider early 80 Juve a great team
Rest would come from Southamerica, look up Intercontinental Cup

Mono at the beginning of 2008, at the US Open the commentators were saying that he was just that little bit slower now and it was throwing off his forehand timing. I think he lost a lot of confidence too. 2008 was just a really patch for him. From 2009 - AO 2010 he was playing better though, not at peak levels but he still made every final and won 3 slams. He really should have won them all, the AO 09 and USO 09 are two slams he never should of lost IMO. But alas not to be...

Thanks, NatF, for this serious post. You could be right even though I found Federer in the 2012 Wimbledon final pretty fast.

2012 was a really good year for Federer, I think he was very motivated. I know he had back injuries in 2010 which hampered at the very least his Wimbledon performance. But from the indoor season of 2011 up to the US Open 2012 he was the best player in the world. There were patches of good play in 2010 and 2011, he was just really prone to bad days...

Yeah, don't get me wrong he's still one of the best movers on tour. But trust me he's not as explosive and quick as he was at his peak. His speed declining is why his forehand has declined, he can't get into position fast enough to rip it like he used to.

Limpinhitter was not a federer 'fanatic'

I don't see ARFEd being out of the line in the past 2-3 pages atleast. I'm not sure what you are talking about ....

I said illogical posts in general, not just vs federer ....

I will interrupt anyone who says federer is a better clay court player than kuerten for example ..

I contradicted phoenix when he talked about rosewall and wimbledon .....

yes, ignoring logical arguments is bad because it shows you just want to put your side of the argument, but not listen/acknowledge what the others say ....

I can be rude at times, but that's only when I encounter very silly/wrong statements , not in cases where it is somewhat close and it comes down to personal opinion..... now for example, I think federer has a slightly better BH than haas, but I am not going to be rude if someone says otherwise ..

but if someone says that roddick has better passing shots than nadal, duh, obviously that's ridiculous .....

ditto when one says hewitt wouldn't be top 10 in other so called stronger eras ....

respect comes when posts are close to reality .....if you are very far off reality , many people will criticize and be rude .....not everyone has the patience to respond correctly/politely to statements like those ....

That's all great and all, but give your opinion on the Best Barca vs Best Milan debate....I got some gloryhunting friends who I am having debates with on that particular topic.

It sucks Stoichkov chose the Catalans in hind sight, had he wore the red and black I'd be even more infatuated with the team

They are a great team, just like La Furia Roja is the greatest team I ever seen.....hell they probably win next year's World Cup (though Zitaly might be out for revenge).

Hmmm I've always hypothesized you're from Spain...i've seen u say jajaja instead of hahaha, and now the way you write Barca....my inner detective instinct may be stronger than i initially though

abmk, Since you answered seriously, here my (short) answer.

I appreciate that you contradicted Phoenix.

ARFED once (ca. 2 months ago) wrote to me in an aggressive post that I should be glad that he is living far away from me... A clear threat.

    Meanwhile ARFED is more "civil"...

You have a funny way of twisting words. I did say to you that you had some cowards attitudes, and i claimed that you wouldn`t be so arrogant being in front of me or whoever you insul,. and by the looks of it you continue on the same path.
I tried to give you a chance to avoid personal references and stick it to tennis, but instead you ran to mummy looking for protection. Now, that is what i would call nasty...

ARFED, The coward are you because threatening from far away Argentina and in an anonymous blog is not brave...

I don't twist words. It's right that you had written I'm a coward but you also have written that mean and dangerous sentence!

If you apologize for it, we could have again a serious discussion. But I don't see a chance for that.

So it's better we don't communicate anymore. Good bye!

Argentina´s 78 WC title is not legitimate because they never beat that great Austrian team with Koncilia,Pezzey,Jara,Prohaska,Krankl and Schachner...who took the germans apart, and we all know Germany was the only team that could have prevented the Albiceleste to win the title...

Well, Holland almost beat us in the final, in the last minute they had a chance with the match tied but the ball hited the post. Then, as usual with the oranges, they choked in the overtime.

In retrospective, all the world cup was planned to give Argentina the cup. Remember that at the time, we had a corruptive military government, and they needed the world cup to maintain distracted the people from what was really going on in the country. Similar to the world cup held in Italy in 1934, under the pressure of Mussolini`s power.

Anyway, if Messi`s teammates are at a decent level next year, it is foregone conclusion, the cup is returning to Buenos Aires.

Messi - and Ronaldo- is a superb club player but both fail miserably with their national team, even if both national teams are very good.

It´s about the Cup coming back to Baires, I agree. And imagine winning it in brasilian soil...

Hahaha no way in hell are the azurris winning it again. It was already a bloody miracle in 06 (amazing defense nonetheless), but with a declining Pirlo and Ballotelli being basically the Monfils of football (not a racial comment btw, just his attitude), i just can`t see them going deep in Brazil. Our only rivals will be the locals, Spain and Germany

Cruyff, Neeskens, Haan, Rep, Rensenbrink. What great players and great teams the Dutch produced in the 70's. Deserved to win a World Cup in many ways and in both finals in 74 and 78, were up against the host country.
That Ajax side of the early 70's were one of the greatest club teams ever.

Speaking of World Cups, their quality as footballing spectacles has certainly gone down over the last twenty years or so.

kiki, Herbert Prohaska was a great player and was elected Austrian soccer player of the millenium even though I would have prefered Matthias Sindelar who lead the famous "Wunderteam" in the early 1930 which arguable was then the best team in the world. Sindelar was ranked in 1963 by an international panel as the best player of the world before WW2...(Garrincha as best after the war, I think Pele only at place 5 then)

hoodjem, I think you mean the conductor (who was not really famous): I don't think they are related. Prohaska is a very common name in the Czech republic and also in Vienna (one third of the Viennese people come from there, at least their ancestors).

-.and the year Evert and Goolagong emerged to round up the classiest ever top 4 in women´s tennis ( along King and Court)
-.Ajax revolution started in soccer, with their first Champions League title ( European Cup then)
