Jon, can you add a 'copy' button to the list of buttons in the compose (reply) box, please?

When right clicking on text within the compose box (with IE 6), there is no 'copy' option. Right now, to copy what I've typed, I have to highlight the text in the compose box, then drag it to 'Word', then copy it in 'Word', then paste it back into the compose box.

A 'copy' button would be nice, since IE 6 does not allow copying with a right click for some reason. (IE 6 does include the 'paste' option when right clicking, though, strangely.)

    Thanks.

And would it be possible to increase the 'time-out' time within this updated version of the board? Something in the area of an hour would be good, and would also be consistent with most other message boards, from what I've seen. 15 or 20 minutes is quite short.

    Thanks.

Ok - the ctrl+c seems to work to copy... thanks.

It still would be good to have a 'Copy' button within the compose area, though - I think it makes sense to have one - particularly since IE 6 won't allow right click copying.

I'm using IE6 and I'm having no problems highlighting and right-clicking to copy and paste text within my compose box. But then that might be because I'm using the basic quick reply box.

    nViATi,

If you hadn't quoted Deuce, I would have never known how he seems to lack some basic computer skills. Since he is in my ignore list, I can't see any of his post unless someone quotes him. IE6 does have a copy, past, and cut feature, but that may be over Deuce's expertise:mrgreen:

Indeed, I don't peruse the internet for porn 10 hours a day like POGO does, and so, yes, I lack "computer skills". Based on what I've seen of him on these boards, I'm quite confident, however, that I am well ahead of POGO when it comes to life skills.

Noelle - try highlighting and right clicking on the REAL compose (reply) page. You'll see that 'Copy' is not an option.

    Still waiting for Jon's reply...

Well a caveman is well ahead of a snail in terms of life skills but he is still a caveman!
    just kidding ;)

In most programs, ctrl+c and ctrl+v can be used for copying and pasting so test it out it all the programs you use. Pretty useful shortcut if you ask me.

I'm a little confused about what you are expecting. If you click the quote button you can highlight right click and you get the full right click menu. If you click the Post Reply button you get a blank page to type into. If you right click "copy" isn't an option as there's nothing to copy.
Either way Crl+C will copy anything in any situation, even with pages that disable the right click option to keep people from swiping internet ideas.
And, no I don't spend time trolling for porn, but I do spend a lot of time on my computer writing web sites.

The remark about looking for porn was meant for POGO alone, based on the very juvenile and excited nature of his many posts about the female gender... as if he has just recently discovered their existence.

What I mean, for example, is if I click on the 'Post Reply' button - I get a blank space to type in to, yes... after I type something in this blank space, and highlight it, and right click, there is no option to 'Copy' what I have typed.

Yes, ctrl+c does the job... but there should be a 'Copy' button among the buttons available in that compose (reply) box. Hell - if there's a button for bloody 'Smileys' - in addition to the 'Smileys' off to the right - there should definitely be a 'Copy' button. I believe copying is more important than are 'Smileys'...

    I don't get it

Why would you want to copy something that you are posting. Do you save all of your responses and replies in some type of log or journal?

Smilies are just as important if not more than a shortcut to ctrl+ v

    Deuce,

I went to the full compose box, typed "Lorem Ipsum Dolor" in it, selected it, then right-clicked on it with my mouse. It brought up a Cut-Copy-Paste menu.

Sorry I couldn't be of any help in this case. :(

On linux, I press the mouse middle button or both left+right buttons when i need to paste.

I'm unhappy that when i quick reply i can't spell check with google toolbar.

Is there something different about the quick reply input box?

How come you get it, but I don't? I get 'Paste' and 'Select All', and a host of other options, the only one of which that mentions copying in any form is 'Copy Background'.

Apparently, the two topics I raised in my original post in this thread are not worthy of a reply from TW...

Deuce, I think I know what menu you're seeing. I'm typing in the full compose box right now. When I highlight the text and then right-click directly on the highlighted portion, I get the Cut-Copy-Paste menu.

But when I right-click on any other areas outside the compose box (the light blue area around the compose box, for instance), I get this menu:

    I hope this helps somewhat.

Noelle - yes, the 2nd menu is quite similar to what I get - but I get it when I right click on any part of the main reply page - even when I right click on the text that I've highlighted within the reply box.

Other main compose boxes I've seen on the internet seem to have Copy and Paste buttons, which makes sense. I don't know whether it is possible for these buttons to be included here or not, as Jon's prompt reply was somewhat too detailed for my comprehension.

Perhaps the 'smiley' button is considered more important here. The question then is 'Did the substance of the board degenerate because of the smiley button, or did the smiley button appear because the substance of the board has degenerated?' Either way, the two are no doubt inextricably linked.

I haven't had any forum issues like deuce has mentioned in countless previous threads.

Deuce you should write your own forum software, it's the only way you'll be satisfied. :D

    "countless previous threads"?

Hmmm... You're either deliberately exaggerating, or you're confusing me with someone else. I have no doubt posted in this particular section less often than yourself and just about everyone else.

I can't tell you when it will be up and running I can only tell you it will get done at some point. I did talk to our tech today and he said it is on the "to do" list. Unfortunately he has a couple high priority projects he is working on and can't get to this until those projects are completed. Thanks for your patience, I wish I could be of more help and give a specific time/date as to when this will be up.

Perhaps you could send me some examples. To be honest, I really don't see a reason for a button when crl+c or crl+v works just fine and is a lot faster than clicking a button. If you are not able to copy/paste using crl+c/v or right clicking as Noelle has graciously detailed for you, then it’s something on your end and nothing to do with our boards. Maybe try typing your posts in Word first, then pasting the post in the reply box. Don't be afraid to solve this on your own and learn from your experience. Try different browsers or use a different computer (friends/library/etc..) to isolate the problem.

"I really don't see a reason for a button when crl+c or crl+v works just fine and is a lot faster than clicking a button."
Italics, Bold, and Underline are also accessible though ctrl+__ ... yet those buttons are included in the main Reply box (and no doubt used by many). I take it you see no reason for the existence of those buttons, either?

You don't see a reason for common Copy and Paste buttons, but you apparently DO see a reason for a redundant Smiley button, even though there is a box of Smileys immediately to the right in the main Reply box.

Having Copy and Paste buttons is not of extreme importance in my life. It is something which would be nice to have, though. Would I be the only person to use them? Of course not. I think it's safe to say that Copy and Paste buttons would most certainly be used considerably more often than are many of the other buttons currently available in the Reply box (indent buttons, bullets, align text, etc). I believe mine is a very logical request which makes sense.

I've done a little 'test', as you suggested, and any browser which relies on the IE 6 engine does not include a Copy option when right clicking highlighted text in the main Reply box. The IE 6 is Version 6.0.2800.1106. Strangely, though, I do have a Copy option when I highlight the text and right click in the advanced Edit box. (And you want me to figure out what the problem is on my own?)

Firefox 1.0.7 does include a Copy option when the above procedure is performed in the main Reply box

There are perhaps other users of this particular version of IE 6 who also cannot access the Copy option in the traditional right clicking manner in the main Reply box. I suppose the important thing, however, is that they can access the Smileys. In fact, they have two ways to access the Smileys. We all do. Yippee.

One can never have enough Smiley options... apparently.

Typed 'Deuce' in the username search box again, huh, Phil?...

... how utterly amusing - in a pathetic way - to desperately - and persistently - follow me around like you do.

It does certainly indicate who's in control, though... In life, there are leaders... and then there are followers... sigh...

Don't feel so bad deuce. I lost some posts too.

It's the moderators job to delete immature rants and personal attacks.

Better post deletions than bannings. ;)

Try showing a little more respect towards other posters and tw staff.

Maybe then your posts will survive longer. ;D

    Above all relax.
