Why is Coria wearing grass shoes? After the first set in the Henman match, he changed out of his red feather shoes and started wearing some all white older style grass court shoes with the pimples on them or whatever. Said they were to give him more traction. He's wearing them in the finals from the start too. Why is he wearing them, and what shoes are they (they look like they are from 2002).

On the commentary I got for the final Wally Masur was commenting on Coria's shoes and noted that he was wearing the grass court shoes for extra grip. He also said that he'd been talking to Vilas and apparently Vilas thinks / has advised Hewitt to switch to them on clay as well.

I recall that the 'grass' shoe was taking a lot of stick from Wimbledon about 5 years ago for tearing up the courts as the pimples had become extreme in the search for more grip. Wimbledon had to improve the grass mix to get a more resilient surface.

In the French TV during the match, Forget who is consultant notice that switching because of the traces on the clay that were much more deep... He also said that it is normally forbidden to play with that kind of shoes in RG because it hurts to much the clay, making fake rebonds etc... BTW we all have noticed that after the shoe-switch Coria was more "on the ball" unfairly for Gentleman Tim!

They sure are. Those new white, black and silver barricades look awesome. The silver is actually a metal mesh like they had on the old Adidas FYW 2000s. Only this time there is more of it.

Are grass court sneakers available in the U.S.? That link was to a retailer in the UK. Just curious. Years ago these were only available to the pro's through their sponsers.

I have bought a pair from tennis nuts, due to the fact that I am in the UK. Or I think I got them though PWP. They are not that nice actually the bright blue ones are far nicer.
