i asked this question before and ppl pointed to all the spanish players. it seemed that the terms "clay-court specialists" and "counterpuncher" mean the same thing. heh.

however, i just want to clarify a few things.

can anyone give me a list of counterpunchers on the tour?

i wanna try to get some videos of some to see how counterpunching should be done. heh.

    thanks in advanced

Hewitt, Coria, Nalbandian, Davydenko, Cañas (more like an aggressive counterpuncher)... Nadal, again, a counterpuncher, but hits winners off both wings consistently.

What about Sanguinetti or Santoro? They counterpunch quite a bit, but Santoro ventures the net A LOT !! :)

Hewitt! A counter puncher consistently uses his opponents pace. A hardcore counterpuncher can't do squat unless he has his opponent's pace to play off of. Thus, Hewitt can't beat Federer because Federer softballs against him, and he can't play well on clay because he cannot generate his own pace. If I had a nickel for how many midcourt sitters Hewitt drove right into the net I would be rich.

The clay court guys can play off no pace, but are usually such good movers that they can be clumped in to the category of counterpuncher. While other's may say its the same thing, I like to think it isn't.

Current top 10 men with the exception of Roddick, blake and Lub are great counter-punchers.

are you kidding? blake has one of the biggest forehands on the tour, nadal is more of a serve and volleyer than blake is a counterpuncher

It seems like you didn't paid attention:
"Current top 10 men with the exception of Roddick, blake and Lub are great counter-punchers.", as in "Except Roddick, Blake and Ljubicic, current Top10 men are great cpunterpunchers"

the way you wrote it says that everyone but roddick are great counter punchers and blake and ljubicic are great counterpunchers, surely a list of non-counterpunchers in the top 10 should include gonzo, shouldnt it?

Holy cow!!! Hewitt and Davydenko ... yes. These other guys are not Counter Punchers.

    Neither is a Counter Puncher.

There is a Playing Styles thread which addresses this.

Hewitt used to be a human backboard, everything was coming back from this guy. He kind of lost a step or two nowadays.
