hm interesting, I wouldn't expect him to be even top 5/10 in that category.

Not really surprising. The man can hit a ball.

Kudos, with a K, like the snack bar. Do they still make those?

Yes i remember in 2008 i think Almagro served 24 ace in 2 sets on clay against some Serbian players, probably Tipsarevic...

Funny that most of his matches are on clay...and he got that many aces.

He brings it plus he has a relatively low ball toss (think Tanner or Curren) that's harder to react to. That and seventy-one matches will get you a lot of aces.

    Nothing unexpected here.

He wasn´t 3rd, 3rd was Querrey before Shanghai -590 aces, Almagro had 577, Almagro hit 18vs Haas, Querrey 11 and played sooner, so Almagro was 4th. but how i said nothing new

Almagro has great 1st serve-low toss, quick motion, pretty fast about 210-215kph are his fastest serves normally, really good serve, but he is not even top 10 ace-per match or better would be ace-per 1st serve in play ratio.

Almagro played a lot on clay, so he has a lot of matches this season that makes him high on the list, just like Tipsarevic is just behind him on 5th place-they just play to many matches, but now he is out of Shanghai and don´t think he will do better indoors than some other guys so i expect some guys behind him to hit more aces indoors and surpass him - behind him are guys like Roger, Tipsy, Tsonga, Berdych,Anderson... so he won´t be top 5 at the end of the year.

you don't expect that from a clay courter:D

I wonder why this guy is not better. he has nice strokes and is a very big hitter. Of course he cannot compete with the big 4 but compared to ferrer I think he has more weapons (especially that huge BH).

So why is ferrer so much better than him?

Indeed, he hits very big on all sides. I think he dont have the mental Ferrer does have, Ferrer never gives up, keeps running and believe in himself...

I liked the match VS Dimitrov at the AO this year, nice shots overall from both players!

But not a lot more than ace aces like Federer & Berdych

    Code:
    1. Milos Raonic 921 60
    2. John Isner 917 61
    3. Sam Querrey 590 53
    4. Nicolas Almagro 577 71
    5. Janko Tipsarevic 575 73
    6. Roger Federer 559 69
    7. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 547 66
    8. Tomas Berdych 545 68

Almagro has a very under rated serve, he holds a hell of a lot on clay in particular but does not have the kind of fight needed to be in the top five.

Don´t understand what are you saying.

Yes he played a lot on clay - my point was he played alredy a lot of matches - among guys with most matches at this point so logically he is in top 5 aces on th etour, but how i said now with indoor season and he is out of Shanghai already, some guys will surpass him and he will end probably around 8th place in aces for 2012.

^ Don't be facetious. The point is that Almagro is playing more or less equal amount of total matches so far this year (which is what's relevant here) and that in doing so he's achieving similar serve stats as big guns and serve-bots who're much more reliant on aces and the like to bring home the bacon

Almagro is a class act all around, good serve, great backhand, forehand is a weapon, but can break down under pressure. If he could control his temper more readily when under pressure i'm sure his results would be even better!

    cheers

Yes, I really note that low toss.

The whole point of almagro's serve motion is the use of the feet. He tends to commit a lot of foot faults because of that.

Almagro gets testy even in practice it seems: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4T3xK6pvucY

I really like that video... it's fun to see a pro rallying at high intensity.

Why isnt Almagro ranked higher? I am going to say fitness. Fitness is probably the most important factor separating the top players.

No 11 in the world, and I'm pretty sure he was top 10 earlier in the year. Really surprised me how well he has played on hard courts this year. I think it was earlier in the year at IW where he completely dismantled Berdych. Only problem is movement and defense in comparison to the top 4.

His game is not that effective against the top players on hard court. He's mostly a clay court player. Love watching his game though, he always gives you a good show. Combines classic form with a fiery attitude.

They do, but for some reason they're hard to find. They used to be my favorite snack bar.

Then they changed the chocolate chip bar. I remember back in the day the whole bar was covered in chocolate, now it's just the bottom part and it's just not the same anymore. :(
