Thompson has struggled to get his pro career up and running. Perhaps he can get something going this week in relatively familiar surroundings.

Nice win for Clay, Ronnie is behind where I had expected at this point. I really hope he has a great college season.

I just noticed this post. He does. Last year he was tearing it up on the ATP matches yet he is less dominant in college. Based on his pro results he should not be losing to Nathan Rakitt.

I noticed that as well. He is talented! I was surprised he didn't do better in college last year

Both Hanfmann and McDonald wearing blue shirts - looks like a UCLA practice. McDonald up 7-6, 2-1 on serve in the 2nd after Hanfmann just broke.

McDonald finishes off Hanfmann 7-6, 6-2.

@ the Florida Future Illini freshman Alex Vukic won his match 6-0, 6-1 over the guy who knocked out both Styslinger and Corinteli in qualies.

Harris' latest victim is recent top 100 player Jurgen Zopp (WR 187). On to the quarter finals he goes...

If I recall correctly, Harris had a good run down under last January. I thought he might even stay home last year, I was wrong of course. I'll let Feddie do the predictions around here.

I think it might have been during the US Futures swing in Ok/Tx area. I think he made it to a final in one of them.

In Fall of 2013, he won a Future Tourney in Mansfield TX beating a few of the former All-American college guys (Nevolo / Krajicek / etc.). Summer 14 had a few SF/Final runs at the OKC / Tulsa Futures. Last January he won a 2 rounds of AO qualies, beating a guy in the 200s before losing to Zhang Ze who qualified in the main draw this year.

His good run has just been ended by Baghdatis today. I was watching live stream the last part of the match and despite the loss, there are a lot to like about the improvements from year 1 to 2:
    - Much more variety on the ground FH/BH. He's playing with a lot of intention to mix topspin and flat shots during the point. Seems like this is a change from using all topspin balls to dictate the point to using more of a variety approach to dictate. Can't help but thinking he saw how effective Alcorta's game was with just a great deal of variety on the FH swing.
    - High level of heaviness in the ground and definitely can hang with top 200 guys
    - Willing to attack the net to shorten the point

I think to keep him further progress, coach Roddick just had to believe in him and let him play more #1 position to keep him challenged throughout the year. Maybe a mixture of shared 1 and 2 duty with Alvarez.

I agree. I think it would be smart for him to play at #1 above Alvarez and Webb. He has quite a few wins over top 200 players now, so he can definitely beat anybody in the NCAA. I think last season, playing at #3/4 caused him to play down to his opponents level and not do as well as he should.

Harris took out Huta Galung in first round of AO qualies 6-3 7-6. Galung is currently 197 and was 91 in October 14. Next up is Andreas Beck who is 113.

One of the rare cases where I will be pulling against the former college player. I like Bhambri and hope he can qualify, about time he gets into a main draw.

the announcers have yet to mention that he plays college tennis at Oklahoma. I don't think they are aware of it.

Harris was up 6-0 in the first set tiebreak and ends up losing the tiebreak 10-8. Now a mountain to climb

Wins second set tiebreak. Aussie open has a good livestream. Saw Harris play a couple of times last year and he didn't look as good as he does here. (Can't stand Aussie accents.)

    notice served.

Some interesting results in that draw. One that stands out to me is Michael Grant beating Columbia's #1 Winston Lin. That really goes to show how deep USC has been the last few years

Well anyway, back to school for Harris I suppose. But very impressive results the last few weeks. We'll see if he carries that momentum back to Oklahoma

yep,yep,yep... never thought much of Winston Lin,just another grinder with no weapons .. Grant and tons of college players are the same... Grant has a better serve and moves forward better ,no surprise there .. they will all be stuck playing 10K and 15K for years to come because they never got a chance to develop weapons in college tennis... college tennis is all about grinding out a win ,what ever position you play...

ok Steve Johnson reply starts now...

I agree. Well Stevie serve + forehand his way to victory without improving his backhand, which is hurting him now, so your point about developing still stands :)

If Lutjen is taking a serious run at playing the pro game I could see him getting in the top #200. I know that's not very high to some here or a risky prediction, but with so many good players out there hard to do. He's got a lot of game.

I think he was dealing with an injury for awhile, but yes he has a great game and an excellent work ethic. He could make go at it if he stays healthy.

Lutjen lost in semis to 4#th seeded. I think if Lutjen is at his best he can go Top400. but for Top300 or more it is a real tough thing..
He and me by the way went to the same german school..(also in different years cause i am 10 years older..but i followed his career )

Hanffman up a set and a break over Paul Henri-Mathieu at Indian Wells. Taylor Fritz absolutely dominated Dudi Sela 3 & 0. I know he was quoted as saying he was definitely going to college this fall, but if he wins another round and qualifies here you have to wonder if he has second thoughts about just turning pro. I know Mackie Mcdonald had a good run in Cincinnati not too long ago, but the difference between Fritz and Mcdonald is Fritz is much bigger and has more imposing game. He does need to put on some weight though to be able to handle the grind of the tour.

Hanfmann lost to Roger-Vasselin 6-4 3-6 6-4. Win over Mathieu and a 3 setter with a former top 40 player. Maybe it'll get him back on track for USC

ITF Future F19 currently ongoing in Tulsa, OK with a lot of current and ex-college players, including Mackenzie McDonald, Hiltzik bros, Gonzalez Austin, Or Ram Harel, Dome, Sandgren, Rubin, Sanam Singh, Spencer Papa, Shane Vinsant, Chappell, etc.

Papa took a surprise win today over McDonald in the second round 7-6, 6-0 to setup a quarter matchup with Sandgren. It is something close to 105 heat index here though, so Mackie may not be all used to it like Papa is.
