Lots of changes at the last minute in the men's draw. JC Aragone, Ronnie Schneider, and Mackenzie McDonald all withdrew though McDonald withdrew because he got a wild card into qualies.

Big John has done well this week, a win at Cincy would be huge although he is a huge underdawg!

Novikov playing now serving at 5-6 in the 3rd, they said he hasn't decided yet if he is going pro . How he plays in NYC could determine it.

He gets broke and loses 7-5 in the 3rd, he'll lose a large chunk of his points by not defending that 2nd round appearance from last year

He won the title by a walk over. I know he had some points to defend.

Rola fell to former Ok State star Nedovyesov. The more ATP seasoned player took it in two tight sets.

Last year I watched Quigley of KY destroy Juneau of Indiana in the NCAAs something like 2 and 1. Today Juneau got a set in the same match up in a futures round of 16. Cant read much into one result but its interesting to me.

Interesting Claremont Futures matches today, who ya got?

    A Sarkissian v C Thompson (WC)
M Giron v M Fawcett (Q) (and recent TT Blogger)
Z Sultan v D Gooch (battle of qualifiers)
R Siwy v A Dome (another battle of qualifiers incl a TW home SLO'er)
Two young SO Cal'ers; EE and JD on the card.

EE has his hands full. DG is a seasoned futures players. JD got lucky, with CH pulling out. He's got a low ranked lucky loser. Should get his first point.

    Giron over Fawcett
    Dome over Siwy
Sarki vs Thompson (tough call), I'm going with Thompson on this one.
    Gooch over Sultan

Nice run for CA by the way. All the best in the fall. Stay in touch.

futures results are about as relevant as practice matches for college players that don't intend to go pro yet.

meanwhile Karunuday Singh continues to rise.

As you know I'm big on D1 tennis. Not big on the school part, but the tennis, the training, the facilities, the support system and the tournaments is monstrous. When there is no "tour level sponsorship" it is the most logical step.

In over half the 1st round matches at Claremont Futures, the lower ranked (or unranked) player won.

Congrats to JD and Clay Thomspon for getting on the ATP ranking list.

Nice work by Giron to win Claremont Futures! UCLA it is!

Very interesting draw this week in Costa Mesa as well, especially the bottom quarter, which is where Giron is slotted, along with Mackie, Baughman and Rubin.

^^On Giron, don't know and don't know. If he gets by 5th seed, he'll prob be playing a top US jr/prospect in Costa Mesa rnd 2.

Noah R just took out #2 seed Danny N (atp 431) 61 60 at Costa Mesa Futures. Whoa!

Nice work by DB with a W over MM. DB and NR up first on this morning. Could be interesting.

Yeah for real. Enough with the initials. Also some of these guys aren't even going to college so the discussion is a little off topic.

yep, and you can actually make a career with millions in da bank after you play, but you need to be in the top 30 or top 20 better still.

He has been full time on tour for 5 years

Its not easy to break into the top 30 in doubles

As long as he stays healthy he will eventually make the finals or win a slam.

He's talking about Deiton Baughman. Since the reference is to professional tennis I don't see anything wrong with mentioning his name. I could get blown up by the modes though.
