Cyclone vs Tour Bite soft

Property Volkl Cyclone 17 Solinco Tour Bite Soft 16L (1.25)
Material Polyester
Stiffness (lb/in) 191 192
Tension Loss (%) 48 30
Energy Return (%) 84 89
Spin Potential 5.8 5.8
String to String Friction (COF) 0.084 0.088
String to Ball Friction (COF) 0.488 0.507

Looking at the TWU data for these two strings they look pretty similar. However, tour bite soft seems to hold tension better. Do you think this resembles actual playing characteristics? I've previously enjoyed Cyclone, but would of course like it to retain its playability longer. Thanks

you would really have to do a side by side to tell. true, the string tw string compare is a good tool. It does help in the narrowing down the list. But nothing will beat your or come close to your testing results. you just never know. i have had many strings surprise me. some good and some in a bad way. But the nice thing here is you have it down to two to try. So great job! I see so many posts asking for a string recommendation, with minimal or even no supporting data.
So go for it man...
Try them both and let us know your results.
Have fun...!

Try Solico Hyper G. It is very similar to Cyclone and I think you will find that all the things you wish Cyclone had, Hyper G has.

Revolution, Hyper G, Solstice Power are definitely worth trying. No poly will last you more than 6-7hrs if you swing really fast, if you don't you probably shouldn't be using polyester in the first place :D. @CopolyX is giving good advice on trying setups side by side. I always do that when trying new strings.. hit for 10 mins with new setup, go back to something I know very well. then play a set with one, and the other. Others opinions or TW numbers are just pointers, you have to try on your own :)

I've used both in a Blade 98s and found the TBS to feel softer but have less tension maintenance. TBS feels softer than Cyclone Tour as well but spins less than either Cyclone.

Tour Bite Soft is an underwhelming string IMO. Thinner gauges of Tour Bite have noticeably better comfort than thicker gauges, without losing the spin potential that is Tour Bite's claim to fame. These work very well in tighter string patterns, too. Unless you need a thicker gauge due to string breaking, you might include these in your experiments.

Take a look at MSV Focus Hex. I use it and TB and TBS in Head Extreme Pros. It's softer than TB but stiffer than TBS. Similar spin and better tension maintenance than TBS. TB and Focus Hex have similar power, TBS is less powerful. I string between 55-57.

Which gauge are you using?

I played 3-4 hours with TB and TBS. I strung both at 55 lbs in my Pro Staff 97 (would probably string TB a bit lower, but wanted the same tension when comparing the two). I think I prefer the regular TB so far. Didn't really fancy it the first hour, but once it settled in I really liked the spin, crisp feel and power level. Didn't find it as low powered as I first thought it would be. I can feel that it's a stiff string, but luckily my arm has never been string sensitive. Will have to see how long it lasts before it looses too much tension.

Now I've ordered a set of Hyper G (1.25 mm) and Focus Hex (in 1.23 and 1.18 mm). Exciting times ahead! :)
