Just realized that Czech Republic has won the Hopman and Fed cup this year, so if they win the Davis Cup they'll be the first team in history to win all thee in a calendar year, right?

Pretty cool. We need a name for this achievement.

this was going to be McEnroeisanartist's next question: "What countries have won the Hopman, Fed and Davis Cups in the same year AND less than a quarter century after freeing themselves from the grip of the Soviet Union?"

^^TV coverage here switched to NFL straight after match point. I was looking for Lendl during the match and couldn't see him. Only Kodes, Santana and Novotna. :-(

...and very lucky as well. No Djokovic when they played Serbia, DelPo only played one match in their tie with Argentina and no Nadal in the finals. Ferrer was amazing though, I respect the guy more and more each time I see him play.

Lendl sheding tears? As Victor Meldrew was known to say, I don't believe it!

Yup, Radek pulled the greatest match of his life out of his ass yesterday. I was cheering for Spain however.

Lendl didn't have many fans when he played, players included.

Lendl definitely looked glassy-eyed after they won. That counts as basically crying imo. He may have split before it got more serious...

    Ah, typical Czech :)
Reminds me of my fellow Serbs...

How could you cheer for the Spanish, Czechs deserved it this time --they stuck as a team and won it, other "stars" chose not to contribute for their own countries...

No, I just like the Spanish guys and how they play a whole lot more. I don't really have a connection here much so I go with who I'd cheer for even if I lived in Canada and that would be Spain, plus I have too much respect for Ferrer to cheer against him.
...that and the fact that I think Berdych is a c%$# haha but props to Radek for pulling through, tons of pressure on that guy and he came out on top. Glad it was Radek as the hero and not Berdych.

Good call. Ferrer was definitely their MVP last year even with Nadal playing at times.

Ferrer has a game that could trouble anybody except Federer. He's a very good player and underrated in my opinion.

he is 3-1 vs djoker on clay and 5-9 overall IIRC. I'd hardly say that is not causing trouble ...
