Its always interesting right before a slam to look at the guys fighting for a seed(top 32). Being seeded and not being seeded makes a big difference.

Just wanted some thoughts on some guys outside of top 32 could potentially upset a big guy in the 1st or 2nd round. If not upset provide trouble. And please be realistic, no Dent over fed stuff. Maybe someone who could trouble say Murray or Roddick as a first or 2nd round match. Some of mine would be Hewitt & Mathieu.

This comes up bc Seppi was 33 at australia and faced fed in the first round I think.

I'm not sure of his ranking but Juan Monaco could upset a lot of seeds.

    Many names i think:

Gaudio, Bellucci, Ferrero, Lapentti, Schwank, Ljubicic, Hewitt, Serra, Monaco, Gulbis, Chardy, Mathieu, Seppi and Almagro(!)

Almagro was nowhere to be seen in this clay season. Seppi lost all of his 1st or 2nd rounds, and Ferrero is just not who he used to be. Other than those I agree with the list.

Monaco is my bet for doing some damage unexpectedly..but it is kind of expected now. I would not be shocked if he dispatches a top seed, especially the weaker ones like Roddick, Murray, Davy (injury at the moment makes him weak) etc.

Guys like Kovalev, Kohlschreiber, Chardy, Ljubicic, Monaco, Gil, Troicki, and Zverev have the potential to upset seeds at Roland Garros.

Especially Ljubicic and Monaco, whose ranking don't reflect their real ranking on clay (IMO, they're both in the top 20, at least, on clay, if not top 10).

Juan Monaco and Ivan Ljubicic are the two worst players a seed can draw. These two guys have had great seasons and had been great players in the past.

Almagro has five clay court titles to his name. I don't think anyone wants to play him. Ferrero deserves a mention in my opinion, he's a former champ after all and won a clay court title this year.

    Kohlschreiber, Youzhny, Moya, Haas, Tipsarevic.

I don't buy Almagro. He's never done anything special at the French, for his clay court record, and last year vs. Nadal he got embarrased.

    Kohlschreiber: best result 2th round
    Youznhny: best result 4th round
    Haas: best result 4th round
    Tipsarevic: best result 3th round

    Almagro: best result quarter final

Yeah, but all of the guys I've mentioned have shown that they can beat top guys. Not necessarily on clay, but they've done it and won't get tight if they have the chance to do so at the French.

Almagro doesn't really have one big win that I can think of, that's why I don't really buy into him. He hasn't proven that he can beat a top 10, top 5 player in a big tourney.

    Good job, btw, jamesblakefan

I guess we both saw that Kolhi is great player. Too bad he's been a no-show on the big stage, but maybe this will be his breakout!

The term "dangerous floater" doesn't have the sting it used to since they started seeding 32......

Yeah, too bad I didn't pick Kohlschreiber in the predictions league. Hopefully this win can propel him to the top 20, that would be good for German tennis. Two Germans in Rof16, it's amazing they're still on the map so many yrs after Becker.
