Big and surprisingly easy win today vs #3 seed Goffin in IW qualies. He's only slightly older than the Australian K's and went the college route for a while but I see a nice future for him if he keeps this form up.

Anybody more familiar with his game? I saw him at Futures events four years ago so I'm not sure how he bumped up his game to make a main draw MS1000.

I like his game, but the last few times I saw him he seemed to get pushed around a lot by bigger players with better depth. Seems that was a phase, maybe an injury, if he's playing in a MS1000!

Kokkinakis got knocked out of the qualifiers unfortunately, I'd say he needs another year or two,

As for this guy, don't know him so can't comment

Kosakowski was climbing the ranks at this time last year, but then went down with a shoulder injury. He's had some nice results of late (was one match away from the AO main draw).

Here's a video of DK playing Steve Johnson back in 2011:

Saw him at the USOpen qualie, and wasn't too impressed back then tbh. Nothing stood out. But beating Goffin with that score is very nice.

Don't know anything about the guy, but he's going to play Thiem.
Good reward for either: playing another Q 1st R:)

This could be a great match! Goffin bounced Thiem in the Acapulco qualifier, so I'll expect Kosakowski to keep it competitive at worst and maybe pull off an upset at best.

From what I've seen of him, he's got a good serve and pretty good but not amazing groundstrokes. Then again, all of this would be from videos recorded years ago so he might've improved since then. Wouldn't mind seeing him challenging some of the higher ranked guys.

That's my perspective...I met him and strung for him at a Har-Tru Futures event...a rare migration for a West Coast HC player but he played well with zero experience on the dirt.

He did his college ball @UCLA so he's seen a few guys from USC and Stanford that have transitioned to the pro circuits...Klahn, Johnson...I know I'm leaving a few out. Was he holding ground vs the top PAC-12 players?

After seeing him play I seriously think I can beat him. And I'm just a 4.5 usta league player. He's not very impressive at all.

So many places I could go to with post but, in a promise to another 4.5er who lives in TTWWorld, I won't. Get your dubs partner and play some Canadian against him...you might win a game.

This could come down to mastering the TBs...Thiem is 4-1 and K. is 5-2 in their last 10 matches.

Much work to do on ROS (11 points won on return the whole match) and 2nd serve (0 for 6 in the first set). Still, great fight to extend the second to a TB.

I am pretty concerned about his backhand. His followthrough is really wierd. It is round instead of through.....hard to explain. He also seems to be on the back foot a lot on that wing.

Steve Johnson's slice is beyond garbage. Imo, DK will never go that far with that FH technique although his Bh is very nice.
