You get a really good look at his movement in that video. The dude is all over the place. He should use his quickness to come into the net more. I really think he could be a Slam winner if he made some adjustments to his game.

His strength is his weakness. His size allows for good returns and nice bursts of movement as well as picking up flat balls easier as seen in that video. Unfortunately he will never have the firepower to take out Nadal,Djok,or Murray. And lets not forget that those 3 guys are just as fast as ferrer and can reach for more and hit harder.

give him a break. if ferrer was 6 foot 5 inches, he would be the GOAT right now

Courtside camera angle always gives you a better insight to the true speed of these pros.

Watched both. Don't see how this takes anything away from Ferrer. Djokovic is an extreme example. We know that Djokovic is twice the athlete and tennis player that Ferrer is...ditto for Murray and Nadal. Ferrer still moves brilliantly and considering how useless Berdych, Tsonga, Del Potro, and Haas are against the top guys, saying that Ferrer's size is his weakness makes no sense.

Given the right draw, he could win a Slam, I'll give him that.

Hell, if Djokovic had reached the RG final instead of Nadal, I'd give Ferru at least a 25% chance of victory.

Ferrer has no weapons. If he had a serve and/or forehand, then the discussion whether he can win a slam would be far more reasonable.

Truly you are joking? The way Djokovic played in SF, it (almost) would be the same 3 set beating.

    That's why I'm only giving him a 25%.

Ferrer is up 3-1 against Djokovic on clay (including one best of 5) and Djokovic's only victory was a close 3-setter. In 2011.

Also, I'm pretty sure Ferrer would be a lot more motivated against Djokovic than against Nadal.

Ferrer can be competitive on all surfaces even without big weapons. He's the Chang type.

    His movement is awesome.

His volleys need work, and he struggles with short balls that are low.

Amazing player, but unfortunately he can't get past the top 4 hump.

Precisely. And Chang was quite fortunate to win his lone RG. You can be sure Nadal would not falter like Lendl did in that match. Problem is top 4 are too good right now.

    he is a great athlete.

the problem is lack of height.

average height of a player in the top 100 is 6 foot 2 and rapidly approaching 6 foot 3 or better.

Ferrer's weakness is his attitude towards facing the top 3. Ferrer is actually IMPROVING as he ages which is amazing. Ferrer reached his first grand slam final at the French Open this year. I believe Ferrer is going to WIN a grand slam, but only if he gets over his lack of self confidence. David can win the French Open I feel, but he lacks confidence, something he needs to work on either with a psychologist or by himself.

I agree with Serena Williams coach, Ferrer CAN beat those guys, but he psyches himself out too much. Look at the Murray match in Miami, Ferrer CHOKED the match he should have won Miami it would have been a huge breakthrough for him.

Ditto for Ferrer's choke jobs against Nadal in Madrid and Rome, he has the GAME to beat the top 3, but he lacks that self belief and confidence.

Ferrer's serve is actually phenomenal for his height, it's really not a weakness at all. What could really help him is if he had a decent backhand, that thing is so technically flawed it is unbelievable. It is a very solid shot (as in he rarely misses), but he can't produce anything off that wing. His forehand is amazing, he never gives up errors on that side and can place the ball on a dime...easily technically better than Djokovic or Murray's forehands. He is slightly less athletic than Djokovic and Murray, which hurts him too.

Eh. He sprays errors on the FH when he goes for too much, which he often does against top players.

IMO that's just due to a lack of confidence against them, he overplays and doesn't play his game. Djokovic made what seemed like 50 FH errors against Nadal in the USO final for the same reason, he mentally didn't believe he could hang with him in rallies (probably due to the RG loss) so he just started ball bashing. When Ferrer plays his normal game his FH is phenomenal.

he is doing the best he can with the cards he has been dealt.

lack of height means suboptimal leverage.

still he took home 7 titles last year.
