If Canada were to beat France, they would probably make a huge splash and they would also have a chance against the US.

Also, Nestor has the coolest grunt. Almost Rafter-like!

Take heart. Raonic/Pospisil beat Nadal/Djokovic much to the delight of the Montreal fans,

I have to take issue with your assertion that Pospisil's game was very weak yesterday. He was playing one of the very best players in the world and after his first set jitters, he stayed with Tsonga and gave him a good game. It would have been an upset of Nestor/Edberg proportions if Pospisil had won but he certainly didn't get blown out or bageled.

Don't forget, it was Pospisil who carried Canada in their doubles match in Israel. He played better than Nestor did. I have no doubt if he had been given the start today he would have done very very well. I hope Raonic does too but he's just not as nimble around the net as Vasek is and his serve better win them a few games or the decision may not look so good at the end.

Raonic somehow reminds me of Krajicek when he's up at net.

And some idiot in the crowd there...

Whoa, now those were a few nice shots from Milos! And Daniel! And the French guys made a couple of doozies too. Good game.

Finally, an easy service game for the Canadians. And it was on Nestor's serve. :)

Raonic, at times an excellent volleyer, at times incredibly shaky at net.

Raonic is feeling the pressure of this match. This is key....or Canada won't stand a chance to win!

Pffft. What a lousy tiebreak for the Canadians. Both Milos and Daniel have to pick up their game if they want to win this and especially Milos and his serve. Sub 50% just isn't going to do it.

Hope Raonic shakes off the jitters as they're just pumping him right now.

Going back to something I said yesterday, I wish Milos would show more emotion out there. He's the young guy - he should be pumped and high fiving and contributing with his energy since he's not helping much with his shots. Vasek would have been better from that angle.

Heading for another tiebreak? A couple of clutch shots in that last game might have gotten them a much needed break.

True....and the Frenchies are returning real well which doesn't help.
Llondra has that annoying lefty serve....hitting a few aces at key moments!

Popsilsp (or whatever he is called) will have to beat Benneteau tommorow. I think it can happen.

    Well fudge.

I love Milos and all but I still think Vasek is the better doubles player, has played more often with Nestor, and would have been the better choice to play this match. None of Raonic's strengths are being used today. I don't know if that's him not being on top of his game or if they're just not well suited to doubles. His serve is certainly not doing anything.

Pospisil will probably be playing Monfils tomorrow but it will likely be a dead rubber.

Even Dancevic is a better doubles player than Milos.

Bettauer (ok Bob?) is an idiot. Not only does he butcher Raonic's name he can't pronounce Llodra's name either. Drove me nuts last year at the Rogers Cup. It's not Lord-a you dumbass. Get him off the air!

Well, I don't know if I'd go that far. Maybe once upon a time Dancevic was a decent player but he hasn't even played for six months, can't even get into the qualies of an ATP event. I hope you're not suggesting he should be playing today. :-?

If he's fit to play, then he's a better option than Milos. Good serve, better attacker, better mover, better volleyer. This is doubles not singles.

Oh well. Hindsight is always 20/20 but it seems so obvious now that it was a mistake to put Raonic in today. It worries me what it might do to his confidence for a huge match tomorrow.

    Can't win a match with a 49% first serve stat. France...71%.

We knew they would be tough but didn't these terrible stats from Canada in doubles.

I’m actually really disappointed in Nestor. Raonic is obviously not a doubles specialist and looked really green out there. He was obviously bothered by the lack of rhythm doubles presents. Nestor, being the veteran should have done way more in terms of talking to Raonic and encouraging him to step it up. He should have been a team captain. Instead he looked really lethargic and instead of lifting up Raonic’s level he slumped down to it. Not only did they both serve terrible, they both returned terrible. It was actually amazing the match was as close at it was. Raonic has a small outside shot at Tsonga but probably not and Pospisil has like zero chance against Benneteau

    Brutal doubles match today.

Yesterday, however, bionic Raonic looked positively top-10. Really impressive to see the improvements to his return game, and his consistency in ripping forehand bombs.

I fully expect him to defend at San Jose and do some real damage before the clay court season.

Should be a very interesting year!

I hear what you're saying but instead of putting the blame on Nestor, I place it at the feet of the coaches who put Raonic in there instead of Pospisil. Daniel and Vasek have played together before and been very successful. The coaches should have gone with the proven pair rather than taking a flyer on Raonic's serve.

Maybe Benneteau will be tired tomorrow? :p

First match would be Tsonga vs Raonic. Hopefully Raonic pulls through.....though Benneteau will easily pick off Poppispil.

Proud Canada got this far since last year tremendous efforts.

I agree completely with your analysis. Not only did Nestor fail to take a leading role, there was nothing in his behaviour that would inspire his partner to win. The rapport scale beteen these 2 reads 0. That they took 2 sets to tie break is quite amazing, especially considering their abyssmal first serve percentage..41%.and the huge age difference between the 2 may have had a bearing on their relationship.

I saw Pospisil and Raonic play doubles together v. Nadal/Djokovic and they were a great pairing...had played together many times and were enthusiastic and determined to win. And are the same age and mind-set.
