Don't think so. del Potro didn't play challengers. Tournaments will be happy to give him wildcards, and his ranking will keep him in the main draw for a while. Plus he probably gets some ranking protection for being out so long.

no it was lame and he turned out an A-hole again.
it even seemed that someone in his team had to remind him to address the Spaniards. a shame cause he had a brilliant game, really digged for him.

I remember Verdasco not even going over to his opponent when Spain won in 08. It's not an unusual thing to happen in deciding rubbers, to be honest.

NOW, will Stepanek go on to win multiple slams like Novak did after he won davis cup ? Or will Berdy will ?

why not ? Almagro has very little experience in Davis cup, other than watching his teammate Nadal win match after match. but unfortunately for Nico, that is not a substitute for actual play

Almagro has a good DC record, but only on clay.So in the future,Corretja should decide against Almagro if they play away but at home he is still an option.Lopez or even Verdasco, even in average to poor form are better suited to these kind of ties. They did pretty well in Argentina a few years ago and won in the US with Lopez winning the important singles matches.

I think Corretja just went with the ranking and overall form.Almagro has played a lot better then the likes of Lopez or Verdasco this year but imo he was the wrong choice on this kind of surface.Almagro hasn`t won anything in his career away from clay so even if he was in good form,in an away tie indoors on a hardcourt i would pick a player who is better on hardcourt but in worse form.

Almagro is quite an erratic player especially off clay. Hey, but who isn't on the spanish team other than Nadal and Ferrer? They had to stick to who has been doing best.

Interesting question, considering. 2011 was a breakthrough year for both Novak and Tipsy. Troicki seemed to start the season well too if I remember. 2009 was the hayday of Verdasco after that heroic 2008 DC victory of his. 2012 saw Ferrer going places he hadn't gone before after Spain's win of last year. I think with a bit of a mental issue guy like Berdych, it might actually help him some, though it's a shame for him he wasn't the true hero.

I think Stepanek might have a good AO, but its a slow slow court and his game is just too full of holes. On the Prague court however, there's no player who'd have a great day against him.

Well, in truth, everyone knows Berdych was the MAN in 2012 as far as winning and carrying the team to the final and to the davis cup win. Just cause he didn't win that ONE match against Ferrer doesn't really mean anything in the big picture. Berdy is really the reason that team won the davis cup in 2012. They all know that.
