I feel sorry for the guy, although I am not a fan. I have to say, I had pointed out in Aug-Sept last year itself that he was a one slam wonder and many in here disagreed with me. Look I was right.

Don't be surprise if he makes it back in time for Rome/Madrid and digs deep at the French Open.

Don't count him out just yet.

    You're not right yet. He's injured, he didn't retire. And he's only 21 years-old.

This sucks. Here we have a guy who is ready to do some serious damage on clay. I believe he could take out anybody, including Nadal on the dirt.

Instead we'll get a coming-back-from-injury version. Let's hope he's fully ready for Roland Garros.

what in the world makes you believe that Del Potro would just walk through nadal on a claycourt? I admit he would stand a good chance of winning against rafa, but rafa could also win.

Anyway i was hoping Del Potro would play in Monte Carlo. I hope he comes back for the french open.

Are you paranoid? I never said it would be easy for Del Potro, and didn't even say he would win. But he would be a very dangerous and extremely confident opponent for Nadal.

Nadal's low on confidence, his season can be make-or-break in Monte Carlo, therefore it's good news for Nadal that the most dangerous opponent isn't there.

ok fair enough. But i would say Djokovic (when he's on) is just as dangerous but novak is in a slump right now.

Del Potro vs Nadal on clay would be the match of the season.

Look how idiotic you are. He got injured in the arm like 2 month after winning the us open. After that he tried to play with bandage but he started to feel more and more pain and since the australian open where he played injured he didn't play anymore and he's waiting for his injury to heal.
It's not like djokovic who had tons of opportunities to reach a slam final again and he didn't.

To everyone that says "oh another injury" or stuff like that. It's the same injury since months ago.. the arm and his hand. The right hand/wrist/arm to be precise. He feels pain when he plays so as a rational person he wants to heal 100% before he tries to play again. I think he will stay out as long as his money allows him until he is fully recovered.

well considering that Soderling, another tall big hitter, took nadal out fairly easily last year, and also considering del potro took federer to 5 sets last year, given Nadal's normal advantages over righties, Del Potro would negate most of these with his steady play. plus, that forehand.

Use a translator if you dont understand spanish. The article is very complete. Basically says that he still feels pain in his hand when he trains, so he is going to a clinic in the USA where experts will help him with his hand injury.

Hopefully Delpo will be fully match fit by the time the north american hard court swing comes into play.

    His nadal is swollen ???

Surely, he can get a nadalectomy unless his nadal has spread onto other organs.

Is there such a thing as a Federer curse?

Anyone who beats Federer in a slam final gets injured and doesn't win a slam again -- something of that nature ?? Could someone check the Tennis Jinxes and Curses Manual.

otoh, anyone losing to Feddy in a final get to keep their gf's, or get reunited with their terriers.

When did this "Delpo is great on clay" myth start? Yes, he's good; yes, last year he made the semis of FO; but Federer and Djokovic are better than him. That is, if they come back to form.

IMO, Delpo's absence is more of a relief for rest of the hard court players, since there's where he plays his best.

He is so not coming back after so much time off and start posing threats to the other top players.

He is the kind of player that has long streaks of consistent great results.

For example the 4 American tournaments he won in a row a couple of years ago or the hard court part of the season leading to the YEC run.

    Next GS final : Steppy-Fed that's what I cheer for!:D

    1 human year = 7 dog years = 10 Moutzatard years

Makes sense, considering the evolution of the species.

On paper yes, but in reality it's another matter. People thought that DelPo was going to give Djokovic a tough match in Rome, but was surely not the case. I was among the dissappointed guys.

But hell, styles make fights and it could be an entirely different match. Lets hope so atleast.

He played injured in the 2010 australian open and many people talked about his bad performance pretending that he was healthy.
It's the wrist, but I simplified it saying hand because it afects his hand and arm aswell.

He is too tall to dominate or win more than 2 slams. The giants like him never win more than 2 slams tops. Safin, Ivanisevic, Stich, Krajicek, Smith, etc. And are very injury prone.

I find it surprising how many people are marking the end of Del Potro. Everybody (well, most) come back from injury and regain some fom near their best. And a form close to Del Potro's age can easily bring him another slam.

    LOL good one. Humor good!

Ah so Delpo has tennis elbow. Thought so.

The great great great grandson of Dr. Baron Von Frankenstein has been seen residing in Tandil, Argentina......
The locals have heard rumors of strange and bizzare experiments....;-)

    thanks for the article!
interesting he is going to see a specialist in rochester now. a doctor who treated jayson werth from the phillies.
hope he returns to the circuit soon!
the article said it seems most likely he would return in time for madrid, but didn't completely rule out rome.

i've missed seeing him play, he was amazing to watch live at the uso last year. i was looking forward to seeing him do well this clay court season, but i'd rather him be healthy

No need to check the manual. I told you long ago that Federer is the anti-Christ, that he has made a deal with the devil. http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=155414&highlight=satanThis is just more proof of it.

Beat Federer at a slam final and you will have to retire by age 24. It's right there in Federer's contract with the Prince of Darkness, Clause VI, sub-part 8.

Which means Murray will never retire. :)

there's also federer voodoo where he never gets injured or when he does something like a lung infection which some suspected could affect him for 6 months only affected him in one week.
