Has a pro ever changed his backhand like that? Wrist looks like it's healing up well. I wonder if a one-hander is easier on the right wrist of a right handed player. Don't have two hander myself.

He is probably using 1HBH in order to start his training while letting his left wrist recover without effort.

I doubt he will change his BH, that would be something interesting to see.

Tsonga had a few matches where he played with a onehander. It didn't last long as it didn't fare well for him.

Actually, Tsonga hit a lot of one-handed passing shots in that Wimbledon match where he came back from 2 sets down to beat Federer.

Ism sure thesis it. Had surgery on LEFT wrist. So an get back to training only using slice and single to allow wrist to heal. I have done this with a player that broke their wrist.

courier used to hit one handed backhands on the run sometimes. he could really crack the ball.

honestly though his one hander has not all that different from his two.

youzny had some interesting changes in his backhand through the years.

He doesn't need to hit all the ball with 1hbh. He can slice, or I/O. I think it is totally doable for a talented guy like Delpo!

That forehand still looks great! I bet he'll be hitting big again for the US Open come next year.

A friend of mine had surgery on his off-hand and couldn't grip the racquet for his 2HBH for a couple of months, so it's not surprising DelPo is doing 1HBH

Noticed Tomic broke out a 1 hander against Gasquet. Took a crappy vid off the tv, but here is a nice passing shot :)

lofty standards, i know, but there was a time when delpo's backhand was semi-amazing, but it's been a rally-wing the last few years. if only it could get back to that.

Thanks for posting OP; really nice to see Delpo hitting that one-hander; shows how talented he is being able to adjust like that! :)

Back in the 90's, there was an even more strange guy, a Swiss player called Marc Rosset, who alternates between one hander and double handed BH's for periods during the season, and sometimes in the same match, very awkward

    Completley Agree

There is no way he would give up a monster-flat 2 hander for a 1 hander.
It is definitely him laying off his wrist, post injury.
I think Andy (the TW Playtester) did something similar a while back.

Great to see that he is hitting well. Looking forward to seeing him compete again.

OHBH should be interesting if he continues to develop it.

Let's just say that DelPotro's future will be affected more by his health and injuries than his racket.

For any other pro player, that would be true. However, considering he only has 2 left of his current ones, his future is directly related to his racquet: can't play without one.
