True. Nalbandian and Del Potro will be destroyed by Nadal and Ferrer on the slow red clay Spain is sure to use. If Del Potro plays one of his best matches he could beat Ferrer, and maybe they could win the doubles, but even with that they would still lose the tie.

Those DC points are added on next year but not 100% sure about that.

It seems Delpo cares a lot about DC this year since he didn't seem all that invested in qualifying WTF. Argentina probably blew a great chance to finally win in 2008 but they should still give this year's final their best shot, who know's how many chances they'll get to win a DC title.

To be honest I expected him to be back in contention for the majors a lot sooner. His comeback seems to be taking a really long time.

This IS his comeback. He's as good as he ever was.

People just expect him to perpetually play like he did three years ago, when he got really hot for a few weeks and swept all before him.

One slam wonder - a big hitter whose stars aligned for one summer and his whole game briefly clicked, making him unbeatable. No different to Richard Krajicek.

LOL ... you make me smile, Andres! :)

No ... That's the title of a poem by four-time Pulitzer-prize-winning American Poet Laureate Robert Frost:

Happiness Makes Up in Height for What It Lacks in Length

    Oh, stormy stormy world,
The days you were not swirled
    Around with mist and cloud,
Or wrapped as in a shroud,
    And the sun's brilliant ball
Was not in part or all
    Obscured from mortal view—
    Were days so very few
    I can but wonder whence
    I get the lasting sense
Of so much warmth and light.
    If my mistrust is right
    It may be altogether
    From one day's perfect weather,
    When starting clear at dawn,
    The day swept clearly on
    To finish clear at eve.
    I verily believe
    My fair impression may
Be all from that one day
    No shadow crossed but ours
    As through its blazing flowers
We went from house to wood
    For change of solitude.

Llodra really knows how to exploit the Big Man's weaknesses and is doing so quite well

    BUT

Delpo's the one with the first break and consolidate, 5-3! :p
Del's strengths will most likely prevail in this first round of Rotterdam

Good news for Delpo fans ...

Into the QF here in Rotterdam, he's now ranked #7 in The Race (between ferrer above and tsonga below)

    how I'd love to see a Fed/delPotro final! :)

I'd rather not. Federer is a bad match up for Delpo.

And don't get ahead of yourself. Delpo still has to get through Troicki and Berdych before any final appearance. It's hard to see him doing that in current form.

DelPo still has a ways to go.

His fitness is still lacking it seems, I can find no excuse for this area in his game and it seems he isn't working hard enough.
He's had more than enough time to be in top physical shape endurance wise and isn't yet.

Same with the other parts of his game.

I know he has the tools to be much better but he has to accept the fact that in today's game there are no shortcuts and some grueling practices have to be done.

I know. It's more a wish than an expectation :)

Delpo hasnt played Troicki since 2009, and viktor is much more match hardened since then, delpo less so. Still, viktor has never beaten delpo, so unless delpo's skiills are very much depleted since their last meeting, juan will win today because of his mental strengths.

Berdy is an opponent of a different class. Del beat him the last time they met, but that was in 2008. That would be an excellent match to watch, a good indicator of how far back Del has come since his 2010 surgery.

It might have been due largely to a strange schedule:
both delpo and troicki played yesterday
neither federer nor nieminen played yesterday
and troicki match last night went long, close to midnight

but for some stranger eason, the organizers decided to put federer/nieminen in the evening today

guess they did it for ticket sales,
but delpo and troicki even more so paid the price
    profits uber ales i guess
where's rafa when you need him to complain? :p
    j/k

He has the MOST upside among ALL top players. He is also the youngest.

    Who else will challenge Djokovic?

Nadal: Beaten like a drum by Djokovic. On course to lose 10 consecutive matches and 4 consecutive slam finals. Might be the worst beatdowns in tennis history for a #2 player.

Fed: Lost 4 times out 5 last year. Lacks in clutch these days. Will get worse with time, as he gets older. NO HOPE against Djokovic in the longer term.

Murray: Mentally weak. Always loses to Djokovic in big matches. Technical problems with forehand and second serve. SLAMLESS still --- huge hump for the Scott.

So yeah, unless someone like Tomic, Raonic or a knew guy steps up big time, Juan Martin Delpo is the ONLY HOPE for those who want to see some REAL battles at the top and not a one-man domination for the next 3-4 years.

IMO if JMDP can remain injury free, he would likely win a slam this year and more slams next year. He probably will be #2 or #1 starting next year. In any case, he is the only legitimate threat to Djokovic as I said previously..

    This is also true.

A couple of nations are trying to stop Iran not because anyone sincerely believes they will commit a nuclear suicide the next day they have a bomb, but in order to stop nuclear proliferation, to prevernt open violation of the non-proliferation treaty that Iran signed (and received nuclear knowledge/assistance on those grounds), and to weaken Iran's position in diplomatic negotiations.
