Federer, Nadal and Murray can beat Djokovic, the margin is there but quite narrow.

This is what I mean. He appears to be injury-prone. I won't be surprized if he goes through a series of injuries and flashy comebacks before finally checking out.

not suicide ... murder ... that's why Mahmoud Ahmadinejad described Israel as a "disgraceful blot" that should be "wiped off the face of the earth". @ http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2005/oct/27/israel.iran

IOW there's every indication that Del Potro's term is going to be long! :D

remember ... “None so blind as those that will not see.” ... Matthew Henry

That rhethoric is for internal consumption - to rallly the religious conservatives, and for external consumption - to create a bigger/scarier image too boost diplomatic weight. North Korea has been doing the same. Nobody is buying.

Most people are mature enough to understand that a hypothetical nuclear attack against a non-invading country is an immediate suicide, a failure of epic proportions. I am not even talking about the "3rd world war" because the world isn't going to take sides.

US was the country that invaded IRAK because there were massive destruction weapons and there were not even one of these??

ONTOPIC: Im also with the ones who think that DelPo is the main challenger for Djokovik long term. He has an amazing forehand, a delicious backhand (and I didnt taste it :p), great mind to win in BIG matches.

He hasnt the consistency, but Djokovic, a year and a half ago also hadnt and now look at him!

Delpo has this tournament and four others lined up.

    http://live-tennis.eu/playersSchedule

His game is rounding into form right now and expect a very good match against Fed tomorrow.

Whether he wins or loses against Fed doesn't matter as much as how satisfied he is about the progress being made.

With so many tournaments in a row he has a plan of getting his game finely tuned.

I expect him to bring his game up to the highest level he's had since his comeback in the following weeks.

pfffffft ... US also invaded Yugoslavia because of "genocide" that was nonexistent, K?

BUT this is just a tennis forum, so it's best to say "whatever" about the machinations of the multinational corporations of the New World Order, and instead take to heart the words of Matthew Henry that there are “None so blind as those that will not see.” ...

IOW ... predictions of Delpo's career's early demise are grossly exaggerated, Netspirit! :p

I am confused. Meteorites usually fall down... I think? So it can't be much of a rise...

Then again, technically the lower you ranking number, the better you are, so I guess it kinda makes sense.

I knew there was a reason I liked you, FlamEnemy! :) you're absolutely correct that "meteoric" means "resembling a meteor in speed or in sudden and temporary brilliance <a meteoric rise to fame>" ... which of course applies to Delpo's jumping from somewhere around no. 484 at the start of 2011 ... to no. 11 by year's end ... no other player I know of has improved that much in one year since I've been following professional tennis in 2008 ... of course he's still improving, so the rise is still continuing ... and once he gets to the top five, I (unlike some naysayers I won't mention) am hoping he'll stay there for a good, long time ...

    -----

    K so ... Game On!!!

freddy was just too good today ... and juan was just too nervous, seeming to not think straight ... starting with electing to receive (when he's been serving great earlier in the week) after winning the coin toss to trying that silly tweener when he had time to turn around for a forehand ... etc., ad nauseum ... just never seemed comfortable at any time in the match

BUT there is a silver lining ... making the Final of a 500 and improving 3 levels in The Race this week:

He was just bamboozled by how quickly Federer jumped on everything, especially early on. You could see Del Potro was almost there but Federer too often just hit him off the court and didn't squander many chances.

I would be very surprised if JMDP does not end the year as no. 5/6. Consistently beating guys like Berdych will be crucial in that regard, but he did a great job at that this week. Made him look like a level below, which usually only the big 4 can do to a guy like Berdych.

good positive post! :) ... Del won more points as finalist of a 500 than he would have as winner of a 250 :D ... but ... if delpo wins marseille and nishikori wins buenos aires, then Del will still be ranked 9 hehind Kei's 8 ... but as Greek slave & fable author Aesop reminds us, "slow and steady wins the race," ... so guess we're looking forward to dubai for the next step in Del's ranking improvement ...

Hi guys! Look at my username, you'll see who I'm a big big fan of ;) Anyway, it's all semantics right now -- Delpo's a top 5-8 player right now, regardless of what the ranking says, just based on his form and results so far in 2012. However, he's not at world-beating/GS-winning level yet until he gets a "signature" win over one of the Big 4 guys in a Dubai, IW, or Miami-type tournament. If he does get that "signature" win, though, especially on the U.S. hardcourts, watch out ATP! This guy is money during the USO series when he's feeling confident! :)

Thanks LoveGame! I'm not just a fan of Delpo but a fan of the sport overall. I love all men's players (except Federer, don't get me started on him LOL) and enjoy watching WTA matches as well.

I except Delpo to be seeded 5-8 by RG time, displacing Fish from the #8 spot soon. Whether he will rise above his seeding and defeat a Top 4 player in the potential QF match at RG is still uncertain, as he has not shown the same form that he started to show in RG '09 until WTF '09. His story is to be continued, I suppose! :)

Just letting you know ahead of time, that if you bash Fed, you will be trolled. These forums are Federer's. I don't like him either, but just so you know.

Hey Tammo! Love your avvie -- Isner's my pick for the American to make it the furthest at RG this year.

I don't "bash" anyone, I definitely respect Fed and appreciate that he helped raise the bar for the game, but I just don't like him very much. I'm very respectful myself though, and I love the sport first and foremost. I'm not here to troll, and I don't want to be trolled either lol!

Uhm, no. The website we both use is doing something wrong atm. In the race ranking, it hasn't added Rotterdam points. Delpo can never have 400 points, since he got 300 in Rdam and 360 in the AO. Plus some Sydney/Brisbane points. Roger has 500 more than it says as well. He got 720 in AO, and 500 now. Plus I think 90 Doha.

Hello! Nice to meet you. I've been lurking before joining and I know you just had the opportunity to see Feds live in Rotterdam. Congrats! It's always great to see your favorite player live. Last time for me was IW 2009 where I saw Amelie Mauresmo, my favorite women's player of all time, compete in CA for the last time. It was a wonderful experience, and I'm sure it was the same for you last week as well!

I would argue that I am a huge lover of this wonderful sport. I wake up at all odd hours to follow the AO, European Feb swing (I mostly avoid the random little American tourneys at this point of the year LOL), Wimbledon, FO, etc, etc. I just don't love one man/woman dominating the sport for years on end and removing that "unpredictable"/any given aspect part of sports, which is what makes it so interesting. That's why I don't really "like" Federer per se, although I will admit that his achievements are amazing and he is a very very good player, and probably the GOAT of our sport as well.

Anyway, now that I've introduced myself in the Juan Martin thread, I will just quickly post that Juan has the chance for some revenge this week against Davydenko, his second round opponent, whom he lost to in the WTF '09 finals. Davydenko has been playing some amazing, inspired tennis lately so Juan has to be very careful. I'm not sure about the mathematics of it all but I think Juan can add 250 points here if he wins this tournament, right? It should be enough to leapfrog Mardy Fish for the #8 ranking, but if not, I'm confident Juan will be ranked at least #8 by the time RG rolls around.

    Respectfully,
A Delpo Fan (but a fan of the sport first and foremost)

and there's a buzz goin around that the 2HBH causes more physical problems than the one hander ... and look who may be the second fittest guy in the top ten ... sorry gotta assume djoker is the fittest ... well, and of course there's ferrer who's also very fit, tho he has yet to last as long as roger has ...

    =====

anyway ..... delpo's chance for revenge on davy happens tomorrow evening in marseille ... they've both had issues, and after seeing the way davy head cased his way out of beating roger last week ... otoh it seems delpo did the saem thing  .... i think delpo's gonna be motivated against davy in a way that he wasnt against roger last week.

bit worried cuz davy has been a bit of a bad match for juan, leading their h2h at 3-1 ... still, i think del must have figured out how to beat davy by now ... anyway, i'll be watching to see if Davin's been able to help with some wise coaching tips ...

[IMG] ... two on indoor hard, one on carpet ... the only match delpo won was on clay

plus davy's already played a match this week on the marseille center court, while delpo had a bye, but then the reason davy got here a little earlier is b/c he lost rotterdam in the semifinal, while delpo played the final there :p

either way, should be a fun match to watch!

And Delpo is wearing the black ribbon as solidarity for the Buenos Aires train crash victims yesterday.

LOL. I'll take the win either way. He was playing really great at the end of that 2nd set so I think he would have risen above his somewhat sluggish level in the first set to take the match anyway. Shame for Kolya that his great indoor form had to end this way though.

Can we say DelPo is "real No. 5" now behind the Top 4 after his defeats of Berdych and Tsonga, or do we have to wait until he defeats Ferrer?

We have to wait until he actually gets to no 5. Ferrer has been in the top 5 for a reason, you know...

As long as he's ranked 5-8 it doesn't make a whole lot of a difference, to be honest.

Llodra gonna beat your boy tomorrow! Should have done it in Rotterdam last week - he's playing a lot better here, at home, in a final of a tournament that means so much to him that he's won before - different prospect!! Allez Mika
