That was a Funny momment in the end because, I was Expecting Badhdatis to thank his girlfriend and the whole Crowd to go Nuts over it, with a standing ovation and he forgot! he Even thank the people in his academy in France.. So much for the big hype over her. I Think he is going to hear it tonight! Come one Marcos!!

He didn't congratulate Roger either, but unless girlfriends are the hittingpartners or have been there from the beginning, why thank them. Roger was too emotional to thank Mirka. Agassi never mentions Steffi after a win.

Even though Roger was too emotional to thank Mirka, the fact that he didn't kind of gives Marcos a little bit of a break don't ya think? He can say well hey, Roger didn't thank Mirka. For some reason, I don't think he forgot to thank Camille, maybe he just doesn't think she did anything exemplary...

Well, after all of that I'm sure if any of us were up on that stage we wouldn't remember everything so well either. No harm, no foul - Great job Marcos!

I do know the source but, he sure remembered to say he was going to sleep with her to celebrate one of his victories rather then watching a tape..;) But, I agree no harm done at all, specially since it seems to be a light relationship. Roger in the other hand can say to Mirk " Hey I forgot on this one but, I sure did remember on the 04 one, and don't worry Mirka, because I will remember in RG in 4 months.."

why thank someone who provides a good F and lives off him, it's a 90% certainty this won't last for a year, and then it'll look pretty stupid when he sees it on tape in a few years time.

I think Roger and Baggy will thank their respective girlfriends in... um... you know. Later.

You know, when there's no spectator in sight.

Marcos is in front of 15,000 people inside the stadium, thousands outside, and millions watching him on TV. That he could say anything is amazing in itself. Roger has been on the big stage 7 times and all he could do was babble. And while Roger cried, Marcos was in the backround crying too. (PS boys..women liike men who cry at emotional times...LOL)

Marcos' family is obvoulsy the most important part of his life, and seeing as he has been dating his gf for 6 weeks, thanking here would be dumb...and he has said they never talk about tennis....so thanking her for her "companionship" would be a bit out of place at the awards ceremony.

I really don't like too much neither of the two (Fed and Marcos) but their speeches (and tears :)) after the match really touched me. Baghdatis was totally cool considering the fact this was his 1st big speech (and his English really surprised me...when you remember that some Top 10 players still can't make a decent speech in English) and when he said "I played the final. I lost. It was amazing" it was hilarious...especially when he figured what he said and started laughing, too. I wasn't expecting him to thank the girlfriend (I mean, why...who knows how long they've been dating, it's not like she's his wife)...but, yeah..he should've congratulated Fed.I guess he forgot.
Fed's crying totally took me by surprise...and I found a new respect for him. It was a really emotional moment...you're watching a guy who rarely shows his emotions when playing, who should be already so used to winning big events, and yet he couldn't find the right words and he couldn't stop crying. When I saw that I was really happy for him.

Marcos did ask the emcee to communicate his congratulations to Roger and his thanks to Cami, though. I think he really just forgot to do so in his speech! I would, too, if this was the first pro tour event I'd been in the final of.

Federer crying surprised me at first, and then I realized maybe he hadn't thought about the record he was equaling (Sampras's Wimbledon-US Open-Australian Open run) until the emcee had pointed it out to him. Then when Laver gave him the trophy it must have been a huge moment (maybe Laver is a childhood idol :) ). I was bored by the final but loved the awards ceremony.

I agree that Camille is probably just a hottie he was able to pick up because she knew how rich tennis players can get and plus it's really quite a thing to be able to say, "I'm dating a top ranked tennis player" She doesn't really do much but sit there and watch him playing with $$$ in her eyes and at night gives him a nice time as long as he promises to be gentle.

STILL, she was there for him the whole time. Never really seemed to catch a moment where she seemed bored or not paying attention. Even if he does not believe that this is a soulmate, a little, "Thank-you to my girlfriend Camille for supporting me these two weeks" would've been nice don't you think?

Why was that Noelle? Not that it isn't your perfect right, but doesn't seem to be a majority opinion.

Because I was watching it and could predict it right down to the bagel and the match point.

"Oh, Federer lost the first set. See here, he's gonna win the 2nd set..."
    "It's gonna be a bagel."
"He's going to try to end it on Baghdatis's service game."
"He'll only need one match point."

And it happened according to script. I would rather have liked a more unpredictable final. :)

I find it quite annoying, always those cliche speeches:

First of all I'd like to congratulate..........and I wanna thank my Coach......., my family who have supported me......... and offcourse the ballkids and YOU,(the crowd goes crazy), I wanna thank you for all your support during the last two weeks!!!!!!!!!

    Can't stand those speeches!

I remember Clement pulling out a paper with a printed speech after the AO final which he lost to Agassi, that was quite funny:)!

Just be a little more surprising with your speech!

That's how you keep your girl in check. Don't give her credit because if she thinks she had anything to do with the finals, she'll get a big head. Always keep your girl in check; Marcos did the right thing by not mentioning her.

Thanks to ESPN and their 'time constraints' I did not get to see the award ceremony. So Roger got weepy huh?

He could have mentioned her. I normally wouldn't think it would matter since she's a 17 year old that he's dated for 2 months, but she had tears after he lost so she's obviously a part of his team.

Federer's tears sort of show that he's not the guy everyone thinks he is. When he drops a set or makes a single unforced error, people say, "oh, he's getting lazy, he's just fooling around." Federer had doubts about winning the tournament after losing the Masters, losing the exhibition to Haas, getting into trouble already in the 4th round. He was nervous before the semis with Kiefer and very nervous before the final. He struggled in the first 2 sets to hold his serve and actually thought he was going to lose. It's not surprising that when Rod Laver gave him his 7th Grand Slam trophy and his name was put in the same vein as Sampras and Laver that the tears started to flow. Winning is as hard for him as it is for anyone else, he's just stronger in mind and stronger in talent.
