It was an indoor match in America. Lungreen was using a Donnay Pro Cynetic One. Very good match. Guys were saying he was the next Borg. Long hair, smooth two hand backhand. Little did they know he was the next fat a s s out of Sweeden. How the did he gain all that weight? Must be a Nalbandian diet.

Look what happened to Lungreen. I think that was the highlight of his career. Could be the same for Nalbandian, Canas, Gonzalez, and definitely Volandri.

Anyways, if you got that match, try to put it on you tube. I think you guys will enjoy it.

Volandri maybe, but Nalbandian is a top-3 player who's been at the semis of every slam, a Wimbledon finalist, a Tennis Masters cup champ, back-to-back Masters Series sheilds, beaten Federer 8 times - his highlights are pretty impressive with probably bigger ones to come.
Lundgren did nothing compared to that.

    Match sounds interesting though.

    Did you see it?

I have it taped on a VHS tape. But I have a gargage full of VHS tapes. I've been trying to find my Kent Carlson against Wilander too.

No but if you got it converted I'd download it :)
I bet you have some classics on your old tapes.

I remember when Lundgren upset Pat Cash(coming off his W win) in a night match at the US Open. He pushed Lendl to 5 sets at W one year as well.

Would be very interested in getting a copy of that Carlsson-Wilander match, willing to pay. thanks.

Lundgren walked right past me at the Pacific Life Open last year. He was hogging down a big a$s vanilla ice cream cone as he went by.

Anyone have a pic of a fit Lundgren in his playing days? I cant imagine it.

I saw Lundgren beat Edberg in LA one year. My girlfriend at the time kept remarking how hot he was, etc. Now...well, do they have Jenny Craig in Sweden ?

I would send you a copy for free. I just have to find it. And get my VCR to start working again. I have a load of tapes from 70's and 80's but their in Beta. My beta hasn't worked in 20 years.

    Wow.
Sounds like you have some real gems there.
You need to find someone who has a working beta and have that person convert those to DVD for you.You could pay the person by giving them all your master beta tapes being converted as payment.I'm sure someone here probably has the means to do it for you and would gladly do it for those beta tapes in return. You should post a topic here on it.

I saw Lundgren play on a couple of occasions and thought his kick serve was pretty amazing. If you go back thru the ATP results he had some big moments.

Yeah, let's get some of old Lungreen up. Cahill was pretty good, too. But Lungreen was better.

I'm sure Lungreen gave some Federer some tips on that kick. Too bad he couldn't show him. The only Lungreen can show him is how to down Hageen Daas in a cone.

My bad, it was Anders Jarryd he beat. He lost to Edberg in the semis. Sorry, it was almost 12 years ago....

I know why Lundgren is Fat!

My uncle's best friend used to play on tour and was just retiring when lundgren came on. He said that lungren loved the nightlife and his favorite combo was beer and pizza. He used to eat that after a match and then drink a gallon of water before bed - then be ready to play the next day. When he stopped playing 5 hours a day he continued the beer, pizza and everything else diet.

I'm still waiting for some pics of Lundgren from when he was a fit player...

I remember all of the other good Swedes at the time (Wilander, Edberg, Nystrom, Jarryd, Carlsson), but when I think of Lundgren, the only picture that comes to mind is him in his present state waddling along, wolfing down a vanilla ice cream cone like Shaolin wrote!

He looks pretty darn fit in my old Tennis magazines. I'm sure many will say the same about Kafelnikov 10 years from now, how could that guy have ever been fit?

and look at how some former MLB, NFL, NBA players look today. Pro athletes eat a ton, burn off a ton. When they retire, its very easy to gain weight.

btw that Lundgren-Lendl match from W is available for purchase on that site that gets blacked out here.

    Moose,

As a 35 year old, I know full well what aging and inactivity does to a waist line!

When I was in college, I played 3 hours a day on the team, and often ran, biked, or lifted weights afterwards. Now, I have a family and work 8-10 hours per day in front of a computer. I try to play 4 times a week, do some fitness training outside of this, and I play a lot of tournaments... but it's a struggle. I now look back at those old college photos and just about want to cry.

Anyway, not to keep knocking Lundgren, but I seriously would like to see some photos of his playing days. I did a search on the web, but couldn't find anything. Any chance you could scan the ones you have?

    Thanks!
