Hoping that someone may actually know this? I have an Austrian made MG Radical 231.1 and a buddy has a coupla 231.2's. Wondering what is possibly the difference in the wonderful world of Head codes? Can tell you this much. It is not the head size as both are 98 and it is not the patten as both are 18x20 and it is not the pj so...

Someone will chime in with the answer here, but what I've read in other threads is that the number indicates a measure of stiffness, with the lower number having more flex. What the flex is? I don't know...

Possibly, however the coding of a MG Prestige MP and a MG Prestige Pro is 238.1 and 238.2 respectively so that may not be it.

Are you sure one isn't the pro? I knew this about the Prestige also so I assumed that was the answer.

That is exactly my findings 231.1 is flexier 231.2 is stiffer variant.
231.3 is open string pattern version

Its not on a retail stick that Jelicek was referring to. Its a pro stock frames (available to pros and those willing to cough up dough for them...) so you would not find it on the retail stick. If you have one of pro stock frames you will find the code inside the throat area.
