I have 2 racquets that I really like:
1.new Wilson blade 98 (16x19) the all black racquet
Pros: I can get a lot of spin on the ball, feels well balanced
Con: Can't get that heavy pace, no plow through the ball

    2. Wilson blade 98 (18x20) black and gold frame
Pros: Can hit a heavy ball, generate a lot of power
Con: can not hit with any spin, very flat shots

Which racquet would you go with?? Never used lead tape but considering the new Blade and applying the lead tape? what are your thoughts? Any place to read about how to apply lead tape?

There's a whole section on TW about customizing racquets:

What strings are you using? You should be able to tweak the string setup on the 18x20 and get a bit more spin. If I were you, I'd try both... add lead to #1 and change the string setup in #2... and see which you like better.

Well, if all else fails...the all black one looks cooler, at least in my opinion. But, the black and gold one is likely cheaper.

Never mind...no luck in reaching a consensus there.

Thanks for the replies… I can't really play with changing the strings or placing lead because both racquets are demo's. Ive never used lead so just kinda skeptical if I will like it or know exactly what I am doing with it. Im not sure if I need the lead at 12, 3&9, or where in between. Im not sure what my swing style needs or which I would like. DECISIONS DECISIONS

try thin poly string such as mosquito bite in 18x20 it should have at least decent spins

These racquets are pretty much identical but yet they play so different in my hands.

    black racquet with 16x19
    wt: 10.7
    balance: 6 pt HL
    swing wt: 331

    black and gold with 18x20
    wt:10.7
    balance: 6 pt HL
    swing wt: 335

Can the string pattern make that much of a difference or is there some other variable that Im not seeing making these racquets play so different?

When hitting with the black and gold I can just feel the more power coming of the strings but getting more spin and forgiveness with the all black (16x19).

Wishing I could get both characteristics out of 1 racquet

The difference you're feeling is more than likely what you would feel with any comparison between a 16/19 and 18/20 pattern. The open pattern will give more spin and power, and the closed pattern will give a flatter, low flying ball.

If the two rackets swing differently, then their balance is not the same and probably not the weight either. Wilson has bad quality control and rackets can be off by a huge margin. My pro opens are way off.

Probably this is the reason haha.

I think it's depends on your playing style.
I am a flat hitter so I like old blade 98 (18x20). also you can get old blades for less than half prices of new blades ^_^

Get it from TW and pay the $10 to match specs to what you like, without customization. That way you can get around Wilson's dodgy QC.
