Maybe he is just happy about winning the WTF and still very emotional about the season, but I cant' agree with the fact that 2012 was better than 2011 for Djokovic as he said.

    http://www.espn.co.uk/tennis/sport/story/179086.html

In 2012 he won almost everything (3 slams +++) and he was even better than Nadal on clay (bar the FO). He just missed the last 3 months because of an injury.

In 2011 he was the best player, but not by far.

I think 2011 was a better year for him

No doubt his 2011 was better. People put too much stock in what the players say about themselves. They are always trying to be positive, but he still had a great year.

Djoker had an awesome year and could have very well won 2-3 slams this year. Almost a fluke it didn't happen really. Nadal regained his dominance over Djoker at clay, and Murray finally woke up.

Djoker last year blows this Djoker out of the water.. Not sure what the heck Djoker is talking about here.

He looked much better at the AO last year, looked worse at the French actually, Looked MUCH better at wimbledon ( of course I'm sure the roof had something to do with that), and looked way better the USO last year.

3 of the slams last year Nole's level was much higher then this year.

He had a great year this year but last year he was a complete wrecking machine (especially the first half of last year). I didn't think he looked all that great until towards the end of this year really

His movement, his Backhand, his FH was better and he was painting the lines on his shots

Considering no one is in a position to disagree with the man himself, I believe he is not referring to outright results. What would be more satisfying, come out and having a blazing year while everyone claims it's due to drugs or altitude chambers, or coming back and showing everyone you are far from a fluke?

2012 certainly had a lot more pressure than 2011.

2011 was a kind of a dream run for him.

2012 was hard working, pressure packed, and he put up really good results.

Maybe that's where he's coming from.

He's saying that because last year was not Novak it was cvac.

This year Novak is playing and its the best year he's ever had.

He didn't drop off so drastically this year after the U.S Open. He had a complete season.

    2012 was a ridiculous 9 months + a crappy 2.5 months thereafter.

In terms of results though, 2011 was better.

I agree. The highs in 2011 were higher and the lows were lower. 3 slams still beats 1 plus a WTF.

He won nearly every title in 2011, I seriously doubt that he thinks he has done better this year.

It depends on your angle. In terms of titles won and domination of the competition, 2011 was better. In terms of consistency throughout the year, 2012 was more satisfying (in 2011, Djoko didn't last through the entire season and basically couldn't play at all after USO). Also Djoko made his first RG final in 2012. I'm sure that meant a lot to him. + he finished the year on a triumphant note, which is always a +

He won "almost" every title between AO and USO in 2011, then collapsed. I agree with him that it is better to remain at top level until the end of the season and god knows it was hard to do in 2012 because of the Olympics. Something had to give which is why almost all top players tanked Paris indoor this year.

We all know what Djoker said here was ridiculous, but 2012 was a great backup year, and it was much better post USO. Djoker's peak level in 2011 was insane, but he was more consistent this year, he just didn't win everything in sight.

I think Djokovic probably enjoyed his 2012 season a little better than 2011 despite the fact that his 2011 season was just phenomenal right up until the US Open.

While he ran out of gas after winning the 2011 USO and had nothing left in the tank for the end of year, this time round he paced himself much better, not busting a gut trying to win everything in sight, but winning just enough to keep his nose ahead of the game and thus had plenty of energy left for the WTF.

As a result, this time round he won both the first big tournament of the season (the AO) and the last (WTF). I think this may be why he looks on 2012 with a bit more satisfaction even than 2011!

Of course his 2011, one of the greatest tennis seasons of the open era, was better.

Still Djokovic deserves credit for backing up a great year with another hugely successful one, with him spending most of the year as world no. 1 and ending it there, and winning another stack of big titles.

Djokovic said 2012 was better than 2011 considering the circumstances that he had to face on and off court, expectations, etc..

Exactly. 2011 was a breakout no one expected after Rafa's 2010. Novak was expected to do well this year and given Nadal on clay, Feds reemergence and Murray breaking through big Djokovic still won 2 of the 6 biggest titles of 2012, made a ton of finals and ended #1 beating Fed at the WTF. Results wise was it better of course not Novak is not stupid he knows that, but he was ready for the big time and the pressure this year. He had more to deal with on court and he still ended as #1.

In the previous seasons Djokovic has been the hunter, trying to chase down Federer and Nadal, but this season he was the hunted right from the start. He handled that pressure very well.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if he is more relaxed next season and has become more accustomed to being the 'marked man' and biggest scalp and target on the tour, and goes on to have an even better year in 2013 than he had this year.

I think Federer said something similar that when he backed up his first great so well (in fact with another great year in 2005), he found the pressures and burdens of being the world no. 1 and main man a lot easier to handle and more rewarding.

Novak bro, what are you smoking? Have you borrowed some of the good stuff from Janko?

Seriously, last year he was a killer, his level of play at AO was out of this world and he was feeding bagels left and right, one of the most dominant seasons I've ever seen (despite his poor finish of it).

2012 was a solid, good year for a tennis great, nothing more.

Exxxactly. Unlike in 2011. Novak no longer had access to the 'good doctor' nor did he have access to his pod. Novak is just relating this fact to us. Novak should be proud to get a slam and 2 slam finals without those things.

People fail to realize that. His grandfather's death impacted him the least of everything that was going on in 2012.

Exactly. The grandfather's death significantly affected his level of tennis during clay season, and as a consequence his confidence went down.

This year Djokovic played RG final and won WTFs, but that wasn't better than 3 GS.

He also won the AO again.

1 Slam, 2 other Slam finals, the WTF, 3 Masters 1000 titles plus 1 other final is a brilliant year by anybody's standards. It only pales a little compared to what he achieved in 2011 which was phenomenal almost beyond belief!

2012 Djokovic came down to Earth a little more but was still by far the best player on tour!

Not if Dr. Igor can help it. I have a feeling we will see Djesus 2011 starting at the AO next year. This year was a "down" year because of the Olympics.
