You're kidding, right? People used to be willing to sell their grandmother to get their hands on Sergio Tacchini tennis apparel.

Sergio Tacchini was the brand of tennis champions:

A lot of people in this thread should really be much more respectful towards Sergio Tacchini.. In the mid 90's they were quite a popular brand. I had a few polos of them. They had some of the best designs around and with Goran Ivanisevic they had quite a popular player. Goran had terrific outfits, some of my favorites of all time! I do agree that lately their designs could have been better, but let's hope that with Djokovic they can get back on the right path again.

lol.. that made me have a good morning laugh...

but now that i think of it, those "djokovic should go back to wilson" quotes only make me a bit sad with the display of ignorance of those who posted them, like the mighty Barry...

anyway, back on subject, if ST is making such move, there must be a big investitor behind the brand, (probably Djokovic himself ??? just speculating) to boost sales and regain notoriety back.

Maybe Djoker got mad that they paid more money to murray or something like that. Pros like to state their 'territory'.

Adidas have ditched Djokovic as he is looking more and more like Barry Chuckle of the Chuckle Brothers (the one on the left, obviously.)

Robredo, Karlovic et.al may be wearing rehashed Young Line, Masters or whatever ST reissues but I hope Tacchini doesn't encourage Djoker to don the Ghibli or Dallas...these styles should be retired to tracktop heaven and not adorn the slimfitting torsos of any other Tacchini pros. Worn by anyone but Mac, it just wouldn't be the same:

Woah, this isn't just a deal, this is a DEAL.

Djokovic leaving Adidas for Sergio Tacchini in 2010
LONDON (AP)—Novak Djokovic is leaving Adidas for Sergio Tacchini, the same brand worn by his idols.

Djokovic said Saturday he has signed a 10-year sponsorship deal with the Italian company starting next year.

He said “my own idols Pete Sampras and John McEnroe have won almost all titles … wearing the Sergio Tacchini logo.”

The third-ranked Serb announced the deal on the eve of the ATP World Tour finals in London. As part of the deal, Sergio Tacchini will produce four Djokovic-inspired clothing lines each year. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Djokovic won last year’s ATP finals in Shanghai. He plays Nikolay Davydenko in his first round-robin match of the tournament, which starts Sunday at London’s O2 Arena.

A 10 year contract!? Bloody hell! he must be getting paid a fortune!

Murray's contract is $18 mil for 5 years!

And the 10 years will probably see Novak wearing ST for the rest of his career.

And four sets of clothes during the year that only he will wear. It's like Federer, almost.

I have to admit, the first time I saw the Sergio Tachini rumor, my first thought was 'oh no, the shoes'. Hopefully they are working with Novak to develop something that is strong enough to give him proper support and not damage his feet.

Hey, what is the possibility of Djokovic being contracted to Adidas for shoes? Since he does currently have his own line of shoes and a new model will be released januray? I don't see Sergio Tachini making shoes btw.

Not sure. There was a press conference this morning in London to announce this, but that tennis.com blurb is the only thing I've seen so far. I'll keep looking around for more info. If ST doesn't do shoes, then he could just be 'on his own' and actually have to purchase them. I'm not sure how adidas feels about providing shoes to someone who does not wear their clothes. They had some kind of deal with Murray for shoes this last year, but I don't think it was an actual endorsement deal. Very curious.

Yeah, the start of 2010 will be very interesting indeed. And its also quite funny how Djokovic is switching from the big brand player to a much smaller, more contemporary brand. As Murray is doing the exact opposite.

DR, just curious but do you think they will be up or down? I guess it ultimately depends on what kind of year he has. Our local dealer says he has not sold much in the way of Head Speeds this year or the Falcon clothing either.

Good point Mick. Mats W. did wear some very cool ST clothes. Back then, what was surprising to me is that in Houston at least, ST was often even MORE expensive than Fila. The most expensive and best tennis clothes I've ever seen have been Fila, Ellesse, and Sergio Tacchini, but I haven't really compared/contrasted those three brands in recent years.

I've only purchased some Fila stuff, but I may have to try some ST clothes as well. Why not, their new stuff looks as good and probably performs as well as any other line out there right now. How would some of you experts compare/contrast Fila and ST these days in terms of quality and durability? Thanks in advance.

Maybe Tacchini will make Djokovic his own "ND" logo, just like Nike's "RF" logo for Federer?

    True dat! :)

    You're right, Mick!

There were so many pros that used to wear Sergio Tacchini that we could have an entire thread just with pics or names of all of them. :)

I find the Sergio Tachhini stuff fits better than the current Fila and Ellesse stuff. The current and recent Fila and Ellesee stuff fit strange in that the shirts are made too wide and too short, like they're only for short, fat people. Which is weird as a lot of tennis players tend to be tall and thin.

Nice, although i'm surprised Adidas has allowed him to be pictured with ST since he still has one tourney to play under the German brand. ;)

Thanks Breakpoint for that information in reply to my question. I'll have to buy some of the new stuff and try it out. Why are the Italians so good at designing tennis clothes? I guess Italy is pretty famous for its fashion sense.

well, the sizing of Sergio Tacchini clothing is very weird.
    their XXL is large
    XL is medium
    and L is small

I prefer Fila but i occasionally wear Sergio Tacchini

i think it's a bit sad he's leaving adidas but he seems to love money and classic looks. moreover adidas should have signed him for more than 3 years... i loved nole in adidas but i think Sergio tacchini and him are a good combo.

That weird sizing is only in their re-issue retro stuff, like those jackets from the 70's designs, and that's because the clothes were much tighter back then than they are now. I think the recent Tacchini designs don't have that weird sizing and are true to size. I have some recent ST half-zip theme polo shirts in size Large and they fit like a fitted Large should fit. In the retro stuff, a Large fits like a Small, like you said.

Of course it's an Italian brand. Was Lamborghini not an Italian brand just because it was owned by Chrysler? Is Wilson not an American brand just because it's owned by a Finnish company? Don't confuse brand with ownership.

Sergio Tacchini is of course an Italian name that was founded by tennis player Sergio Tacchini in Italy and that's where its headquarters still is today and where they still design the clothes.

    That is weird...
Down here, it is very hard to find any of his shirts in L and XL.
I don't think Geniuses are a big hit though...
As for the Speeds, I think they are also selling well, maybe not the Pro, but the rest of the line moves OK.

I think that the ST will get the payback for the amount they paid Novak in a year...

On Saturday, November 21, the best Serbian tennis player announced a new clothing deal, starting from January 1, 2010.

Novak Djokovic signed a 10-year sponsorship deal with Italian sportswear brand Sergio Tacchini!

Djokovic is leaving German firm Adidas for the brand worn by his idols.

“My own idols Pete Sampras and John McEnroe have won almost all titles... wearing the Sergio Tacchini logo”, said Novak.

“I am pleased to partner with Sergio Tacchini, a strong brand with a true tennis DNA and am honoured to become a part of this legacy”, the 22-year-old told reporters on the eve of the ATP World Tour Finals in London.

Why? Sergio Tacchini is the best quality tennis clothing I have worn. The materials from the Italian companies have been historically a notch above the rest and I feel the same way at the moment with Tacchini.

Don't believe this post. I've been wearing Tacchini a long time and it's been the best quality out there. At one time Sergio Tacchini, Fila, and Ellesse ruled tennis and Nike and Adidas only made shoes. That's the big difference, these are apparel companies making clothes, and then they started making shoes, not the other way around like Nike and Adidas.

The nicest crew I have owned in the last five years in the orange to white gradient with a black wave that Volandri wore a couple of years ago. That shirt was designed beautifully.
