Who (do you hope) will win?

haha patience my friend!!Let's hope by the time you come back,Kohli will be in next round!;)

Indeed he has done it. From what I did see of match, (I left during the beginning of the 3rd set), honestly Novak didn't seem to have the will or determination to come back from 2 sets down. Although he lost the next round, could have taken to heart Chardy's words after he won a 5 setter this FO:

"I thought, stop thinking about what you feel. Start thinking about tennis. It's the one who is going to want to win is going who to win." (yes, his English was a bit off but you know what he meant! LOL)

From Peter Bodo's article at http://tennisworld.typepad.com/tennisworld/2009/05/coulda-woulda-shoulda-and-jeremy.html

gj011 said stakhovsky was the #1 ClayCourt player in the world when he beat Dabul who beat Nadal.

By gj's logic Djokovic should be the #1 clay court player then after he beat Stakhovsky. So now I guess Kohlschreiber is #1 on clay!

Can't believe i am saying this but I miss gj he said the funniest things. BS aside Nadal is clearly #1 on clay not Kohlschreiber haha.

Indeed Max.

As I've already said, this was wholly unexpected. Murray now has at least a 1030 point lead on Novak going into the grass season.

could you explain that? because i just copied this from the atp website ........ thx

People like to give a lot of crap to Federer but I guess people can see now that 19 straight semi-finals in a slam is nothing short of spectacular!

are you paid to post about federer in every thread in which federer is off topic? :)

I didn't see the match, what happened? Djoko choked or Philipp played great?
Kohl played well, and is a strong player who can never get his act together for more than a game (sadly).
Djoko says he could not find his rhythm.

My telly showed a very one sided Tsonga match, then a bit of this match, and then moved onto the Fed match. So in between i got to see a little. But the camera angle on these outside courts does not let one see whats happeneing on the other side.

Kohl plays strongly on both wings and can serve well on a good day. He racked up about 28 aces to Roddick at Ao 08.

I think he means after RG, Djokovic will go from SF pts to 3rd rnd pts, and Murray will gain pts.

that makes sense, but does the math?
i'm hoping he can do the math for me:)
it doesn't seem to go with the atp website figures.

Totally off topic but you are one the best posters here especially with all the images of tournaments and other things you link in your posts.

Murray-Now-9020
last yr RG-l in 3rd(150 pts)
this yr RG-at least 4th(180 pts)
+30 pts
After RG(atleast):9050 pts

Djokovic-Now-8830
last yr RG-SF(900pts)
this yr RG-3rd(90pts)
-810pts
After RG-8020 pts

So according to my math, Max (or batz) is indeed right.

LOL, yes because I clearly go around in every thread doing that, please try that garbage with someone else. I post like once every blue moon so that accusation is completely baseless. Nice try though!

oopsie ... guess i'll have to blame it on others then? there's a whole group of federer fans who go around loading up all the non-federer threads with posts about federer ... and you did post more than one in this thread ... but as far as your posting "like once every blue moon" ... lol:lol:

Of course I posted more than once in this thread. But there's no truth to your claim that I go around in non Federer threads posting about Federer. And yes I post every blue moon, just look at my post number per day.

nice to have it so clearly explained :)
"-810pts" -- OUCH

how'd you learn the maths of rankings, JBF?
(I'd like to be able to do that too.)

i believe the full expression is "once in a blue moon" ... definitely does not apply to you.

What is this some sort of Jedi Mind Trick? Ugh, whatever you say. I'm a dyslexic idiot, I have no idea how I got that darn PhD in chemistry. Carry on.

clue: start with the part that asks: "where did i . . ." then answer it. simple even for a genius:D

LG - JB has given you a good link on understanding the rankings - it comes down to simple arithmetic once you understand the principles (although the change of points system and the Olympics last year have thrown up a few nuances).

Happy to answer any questions you might have LG.

Cheers.

PS - I also like your posts very much too.

Ok, yes, Murray does have a lot of points to defend after RG. But, i do expect him to defend most of them. That being said, Djokovic is the ATP Masters Cup holder; and realistically, i don't see him retaining it. Thus, loosing more points.

As it's being held in London, on HC of course, it would be nice to see Murray win it. :)

Agreed - especially as I have tickets for the finals:twisted:

Murray does have more points to defend than Novak in the second half of the year, but I don't think it's as big a difference as people think - as you say Max, Novak has 1400 points to defend at TMC, he also has 410 points from the Olympics falling off in the summer. Contrary to what many think, there is very little between the 2 to defend during the grass season - Murray is defending 500 points to Novak's 380 - it should also be pointed out that Murray has had a 'zero point' penalty on his ranking these last 11 months - that will fall off in July and he'll have an additonal 'countable' to add to his ranking.

Novak's best opportunities to catch Murray are at Shanghai and Paris where he defends a paltry 300 points between the 2 events - thing is, both of those are indoor hardcourt - Murray's favourite surface.
