Which matchup do you prefer?

"Personally, to watch a Pete Sampras versus Goran Ivanisevic match, or one between those kind of players, is not enjoyable, It's not really tennis, it is a few swings of the racquet. It was less eye-catching than what we do now. Everyone enjoys the tennis we play much more. I am not saying we are playing better tennis, just more enjoyable tennis. For me, in the past it was just serve, serve, serve." - Rafael Nadal

That is Nadal's opinion. Whats yours? Pong or Servefest?

Very consistent baseline play.

Why is ball bouncing of the sidelines?

That is not tennis and has nothing to do with the way Djokovic, Murray, Sampras or Ivanisevic play.

Also I have another question for OP.
Why did he spelled Ivanisevic correctly (Ivanišević) and didn't bother to do the same for Djokovic (Djoković or Đoković).

More disrespect?

Servefest. Serve and Volley is an ancient art that we don't see much of today. Would be nice to see a match with 2 good serve and volleyers instead of stupid llodra.

I voted servefest, because I really do not like the matches that Djokovic and Murray play against each other.. It's not like a Nadal - Djokovic or Federer - Djokovic or Federer - Nadal match at all..

To be honest, I think that Murray is possibly the most boring tennis player of all time..

But on topic: I like the baseline tennis of these days much better then the days of Sampras. That's why I preferred the claycourt season those days, at least some real exciting tennis was played with long rallies.

I was one of those at the end of the 90s who was becoming bored by endless serve and volleying, and I am now one of those over a decade down the line tired of the endless baseline exchanges. Why variety is not more of an option I really don't know. Anyway, between the two I'd probably go with the servefest purely because while I have no great desire to watch either of them, that one is at least likely to finish quicker!

People have the recent Wimbledon final fresh in their minds and while the quality was not the best, don't let that one recent match make you look at the past with rose-tinted glasses. You're forgetting how bad the quality of matches got during the "big serve" era.

There's a reason 90's men's tennis hit a low in popularity, and there's a reason that courts were intentionally slowed down to stop that "serve fest" and increase the entertainment value of matches.

Djoko-Murray is vastly preferrable to Sampras-Ivanisevic

Popularity in the 90s was fine in the men's game. It was during the post Sampras-Agassi/ Pre Fed/Nadal era when the men's game took a hit

The popularity issue is debatable, but the fact is that courts were slowed down because matches were becoming serve fests, and that hurt the entertainment value.

Again, people just recently saw a boring Wimby final and so its easy to forget that things were even worse on the other extreme. The past just looks better in hindsight.

It is interesting how many threads, that are designed to bash Murray and especially Djokovic, are opened by brand new users who show up just to that. Open ridiculous threads like this one and never appear again.
Where is OP to comment on his own thread?
