Djokovic rooting for Murray in slam quest

    http://www.heraldscotland.com/sport...ic-rooting-for-murray-in-slam-quest-1.1079357

Few people on the circuit know Andy Murray better than Novak Djokovic so the Scot will be heartened to know that the Serb is in his corner when it comes to his hopes of breaking his grand-slam duck by winning the Australian Open over the next fortnight.

Djokovic knows what drives Murray and believes that, having gone so close twice, at the US Open in 2008 and in Melbourne last year, the next time he gets an opportunity to win one of the sport’s biggest prizes, he won’t let it go.

“I definitely wish him to have it because I think he deserves it,” Djokovic said. “He has all he needs to have in order to be a grand slam champion. He’s already played two slam finals, he’s played various semi-finals and quarter-finals, he’s been winning against everyone at the top of men’s tennis.

“Definitely the next chance he has I am sure he’s going to take, because he’s been working hard and hard work will pay off, as I know from my personal experience.”

That's very sweet of him. I'm definitely looking forward to watching Novak play this year. I've seen a lot of Roger and Rafa lately, so it'll be good to see some of the other players.

Nole and Murray spent a lot of time practicing together at the Hopman Cup - they go back a long way. I think they've hatched a bit of a 'stop Fedal' pact. Murray was certainly supporting Novak during the HC - giving him big fist pumps from the sideline when Novak won a match.

Would be nice to see pretty much anyone winning GS beside Fedal, it becomes extremely dull and boring, I respect them and all but bah.

Wonder if his feelings will change if they play each other in the AO.

I'll bet the "I hope he wins" gets thrown out the door.

    Yep.

I miss the '08 Djokovic with his chest thumping, and in-your-face mean attitude.

This new version seems too submissive; too happy to lose. Lack of killer instinct, as well as this weird propensity of wanting everyone to like him - at the expense of his game.

I fear that unless he changes his mindset, Djokovic will never be the next great player..

I've always been a fan of Djokovic. Outside of Murray the only player I could root for is Djokovic. So much better than those arrogant sob Fed and Nadal.

That is so stupid and really makes you question his competitive drive. Next thing you know he will be walking in with Murray on Rod Laver arena where a scottish-cheerleader outfit.

Well, I have no doubt Djoko would rather face Murray in the final than Nadal. Makes sense.

Seriously, if it ever came down to it, you'd have to suspect Murray would buy Djokovic off, and of course Nole's dad would make him accept, and use that money to buy a factory where he can print Nole T-shirts more efficiently.

It;s been a long time since Djoko has faced Murray in a GS. Would be fun to watch if they play each other in the finals.

Djokovic should make it easy for Murray, just break both of rafa's knee caps and give fed some mono.

sometimes I wonder if you post just to collect the post count...because some of your posts are simply...stupid.
Maybe you should go back and watch the video of the final and see if it was a fluke... No one could have touched him with that game -- not Federer, not Nadal. Not a fluke at all...
The problem is that once he won it, at that young age and with his Serbian approach, it was almost certain that the next one will take a while to repeat. With the game he showed towards the end of 2010, I believe he is almost there (again) but not there yet...

Yeah, when Federer's got mono again, Nadal switches to wheelchair tennis, Murray opens a haggis restaurant, Söderling starts to sell his underwear brand then Đoković will have a chance. Maybe.

^^ Didn;t Đoković pull a strategic MTO against Tsonga who had begun winning. Otherwise, i think Tsonga would have and should have won.

Don't be surprised if Djokovic wears a shirt with a big photo of Andy on it when he steps out on court for his first AO match. Way to play professional tennis, Nole!

The thing is, all of these top five guys have tens of millions or much more in the bank. At the end of the day, it doesn't cost them too much to think generously and root for one another.

Novak seems like a good guy. I'd be happy if either Novak or Murray takes it. But my heart is for Murray...he's totally following Lendl's path. So much pressure before his first major. But once he has it, I think he will relax and take a few more over the years. Lendl and Federer know this path well.

Yeah, Novak seems real cool. In the shadows of two all-time greats, I bet he's tickled he has a slam win. After all, only two guys have broke through the Fedal barricade. The next to do it will garner alot more hype, especially if it's a repeat winner (Djokovic or JMDP).

God people, he did not specify the AO or winning a Grandslam at his expense. He merely said that he likes him as a person and would like to see him win a slam one day(cos there's the continual will he? won't he? speculation) because he has put in all the hard work.Of course he wants to win slams himself and you can be sure both of them would be going at it tooth and nail to win if they were in a matchup.Troicki is one of his best friends on tour but that doesn't stop his professionalism when he plays him. Please people, don't be naive and think that he would just throw a match to Murray. He likes Murray and if he was in such a situation as a GS final against someone else, he would like him to win, but against himself it would be all business. The people who underestimate Djokovic's desire or professionalism make me lol.You don't get to where he is without it

I am sorry, but do you actually know what mono is and that no matter how strong and good you are there is absolutely NO way you will play competitive tennis with mono...
Federer (or whoever) can blame it on it, Djokovic can blame his bad tennis on the racket switch and so on, but whatever...

BTW, you can say the same about Federer's last AO and FO wins -- flukes since Rafa was away...

I do not see Soderling as a threat to Djokovic at the AO...

^^ Thanks, dr, for your kind comments.:) I saw it live. Đoković was gassed out. then he fakes injury, takes a time out, and is suddenly running like the proverbial rabbit.
