I dont buy that one bit. The looser the shirt, the easier air can waft in and out and allow better drying. just my opinion

Is the OP really so insecure that he has to check on how other people wear their shirts, rather than just do what feels good and leave it at that??

Smasher08 is right. Tighter allows more sweat to be drawn away with wicking shirts.
The way they explained it to me, it's about drawing the moisture from the inside of the fabric to the outside where evaporation can take care of it. Something about the closer the contact, the more efficiently it works.
So yes, a compression fit would presumably work the best.
Since cotton is absorbative, a looser fit would probably make sense for the reasons you cite. But if osmosis followed by evaporation is the ultimate goal with modern fabrics, a more fitted cut makes sense to me.
