Do the Wilson butt caps - black w/red square & white "W" have trap doors?

I have read that the older black with red square and white "W" Wilson butt caps have trap doors. But I can't see where it is nor how to take it off. These butt caps were used on many older Wilson frames, lastly on the nCode 90's. On the K90's, it's a different black butt cap with a large silver "W" and it's obvious how to remove the trap door as there's a slot under the "W".

Here are some pics of the butt caps I'm talking about that I found (not my pics). Do they really have trap doors and if so, how do I remove the trap door? The red square appears to be glued to the butt cap.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Are you serious?

The buttcaps shown in the pictures do not have a trap door. I have one that does (mine has CHINA above the W). There is a small hole underneath the W. If I put a screwdriver in that hole I can pop out the trap door.

Hey Breakpoint! There were two kinds of buttcaps of those old Wilson ones.
The ones you have posted are without a trap door...Fed used the same ones on his k factor until the end of 2009.
There were however also ones with a trapdoor, I have posted some pics of my rackets.

Hang on to them, in my opinion they are the best looking butt caps of them all:)

Cool! The great thing is, you can put them on any other Wilson racket that has a trap door too....I think it should look quite good on the new Pro Staffs too, given the same colours and all!

    Thanks, Rusty!

So do you know which racquets had these butt caps with the trap door and which had the ones without the trap door? If the ones with the trap door came later, how come my nCode 90s still have the ones without the trap door despite being the last model with these black w/ red square butt caps? My PS 6.0s also have this butt cap without the trap door.

    Thanks.

Speaking of trap doors.... To open it, do you just place a small screwdriver or similar item in there and pry it open?

Does the plastic deform over time if you open it too often?

    Thanks

Yes. Use a small screwdriver and just pop it open. It should snap right back in when you want to close it back up.

It shouldn't deform since most people only open it up a few times until they are happy with the customization. I guess if you open and close it 20 times a day every day, it could eventually damage it.

Thanks BP. Definitely would not be popping it open too much, but I did not want to damage it by doing it incorrectly either.

Have one of the reissue PS85s that I want to add some weight to to the handle.

I think Wilson were-as so often- quite inconsistent with these buttcaps.
I have 2 Pro Staffs 6.0 95 with a trap door, my Wilson Rok also has a trap door, but my Wilson n six one 95 does not have one, it looks like the ones you posted above.
So I am afraid I cannot give you a definate answer on that...

Interesting. When did you purchase your PS 6.0 95's? Mine from around 2003/2004 do not have the trap doors. :(

I opened my PS85 reissue trapdoor, but the tubes were not equal like on my Head. Both tubes had some light foam in them, but due to the strange sizing, I don't think I can do much modification with weight there, either slicone or lead. I am attempting to add a pic...

My old PS 6.0 95's must be from around that time too. My brother passed them on to me....
The new PS 6.0 95's with the k factor paintjob were purchased at the end of 2010.

So BOTH your old PS 6.0 95's with the standard black paintjob AND the newer ones with the K-Factor paintjob (pro stock) have the butt caps with the trap doors?

I wonder why neither my PS 6.0 95's nor my nCode 90's have the trap doors? It would make things much easier. :(
