Do you use short phrases or key words for each stroke when hitting? What are they?

Not sure what to call them, but I've been mentally saying 2 quick short phrases or words associated with any given specific stroke during play, finding it very helpful. You guys do this?

What are some of your words or short phrases if so that you find most helpful. I've found that every shot has many parts to it and various complexities, and I can only manage 2 essential expressions I say in my mind during play, any more is too much and is more detrimental than beneficial.

With my forehand, the words I use are "turn; open", referring to turning the shoulders, and then before striking opening of the shoulders. This method has greatly helped me. I'm working on the other strokes and experimenting with what works.

That might be helpful for me to have something simple to focus on, so as to not over-think my strokes. Thanks for the idea.

Anne Smith, former No.1 doubles player and a psychologist, talks about "cueing" words or phrases. Since there are so many things to try to remember (at least until you reach the nirvana of unconscious competence), having some 1 or 2-word phrases as mentral triggers can help a player focus on technique or strategy. I'm working on using the full kinetic chain on my FH, so I'll tell myself "core turn." I have a 1HBH, so I'll say "loop" to remember to prep early and end high.

When I'm teaching the 2 handed backhand, I'll often teach "turn" and "un-turn." This helps the student avoid the dreaded semi-open 2 hand forward push motion.
