It depends upon the tournament. At the slams, The Trophy stays with the tournament. The players get to hold it and take a media tour with it, but receive replicas to take home. Other tournaments vary, with some giving replicas and some giving the players the trophy at the tournament. There may be some that don't actually give the players any take-home trophy but I'm not aware of any on the ATP level. Maybe someone else is?

I don't think they are the same size, besides the US Open, I remember someone, I think it was Federer, saying that was his favorite trophy since the one they gave him was the same size as the one that he carries around when he wins, I don't know if he meant that in a joking matter about their favorite trophy though.

yeap, it depends on the tournament. the stanley cup, for example, gives it to the championship team for a number of days before they have to return it. there's actually a lot of funny stories about what some teams have done to it.

As someone said, the replicas are generally smaller versions of the larger trophy. This goes for the AO, Wimb, and FO as well, but not the USO. It gives an exact size replica.

As an example, here's Nadal with the actual Wimbledon trophy

And here is at home in Spain with the trophy he can keep

WTF? The replicas aren't even the same size? What's the reason for that? Doesn't the tournament have enough money to produce an exact replica for the winner?

I know, especially for the slams. Whenever I see players with the trophies they keep at the AO and FO I always think it looks like they picked them up at the gift shop!

Maybe the trophy just "represents" the slam, per se, and the real "award" is getting your name in the history books.

Kinda like if you "win Wimbledon," you don't get to take all of the courts home with you. Maybe the trophy is just as a part of the tournament as grass is.

My guess is that they started giving out 'replicas' way back when that actually was the reason. And since then it's stayed that way because traditions are hard to change without good reason.

Why would a player want a full size trophy? A top player would have to build a separate room for them all. This way they can do what Nadal does with his....put them under his bed.
