His court positioning is killing him against Davydenko (who's creating some nice angles) today.

But that was before he started doing cocaine. Cocaine damages motor functioning as well as fighting spirit and mental fortitude. Gasquet when he was younger didnt choke as often.

Davvy is playing so well off both wings at the moment. Could be dangerous at the AO.

How did Davy miss that forehand. It was the match right there.

Layhani is a very solid umpire, it was the first time I've seen him lose the plot, though.

    Gasquet managed to hold.

No kidding. How does Gasquet expect to win when he's standing 6'-8' behind the baseline and Davydenko doesn't budge from the baseline?

Yeah, I was wondering the same when I caught that he finished the year in the top ten. Wouldn't have expected Gasquet to quietly sneak his way into the top ten.

    He's French.

Davy = Animal. I'm sure all the top guys will be happy he's going to win and get the #32 seed at AO.

He was laughing about it so I don't think he'd mind that I found it a little amusing.

Wow what beautiful defense from Gasquet but Davydenko wins a monster point. And guess what? He gives no reaction whatsoever. Love this guy.

Not only is the positioning poor, but he's going out of his way to get there, hitting several shots back pedaling trying to get further from the baseline. So dumb.

I watched every match of his this week and it's crazy how up and down he is in terms of aggression//

    But wow Gasquet breaks back!

    Gasquet breaks, 4-4.

It's all my fault, the moment I turned on the match Davydenko has been struggling. Turning it off right now.

This is the second time this week that someone took more than 4 games in a set against Davydenko. Gasquet 5-4.

No choke this time from Davydenko, Gasquet just raised his level.

I still think that Davydenko is playing a bit too passive, Gasquet is just happy putting balls back in play.

One set apiece, nice comeback from Gasquet but I felt Kolja let his foot of the gas for a bit, also there's that missed routine FH which would have given him a double break in the 2nd set.

Gasquet is starting to feed Davydenko some junk interspersed with some attack. Serving & volleying on a 2nd serve was a great tactic. Hopefully, the 3rd set will be great.

If he pulled a Nadal it would be when he's losing the match or in the middle of his opponent's serve.

Not when it's on his own serve and he's looking like he's going to win the game.

How has this gone the distance? Gasquet shouldn't be in the final, let alone win it.

I mentioned Fed because he's the highest reference on hard AND it's highly unusual for Davy to beat him but there's something that galvanizes Davy in Doha....

Gasquet has wins over the top 4. He's just got to control his emotions now and get back to his plan B.

Kolay is truly an amazing athlete though.

Davy actually saved a match point against Nadal in the TB IIRC.

He reached the final again in 2011 but lost to Fed that time. A total of 5 semis in Doha, so yeah Doha is like THE tournament for him.

    BP for Davy....wasted...

Was neutral about this match coming in. Now hoping Davydenko loses after taking an injury time out in the middle of a game. Granted it was on his own serve and on deuce, still don't like it.

Don't have a problem with the Davy injury time-out. He never struck me as a cheater and he's gotta be careful as he's getting older. Don't hate the player, hate the rulez.

Gasquet consolidates break to go up 4-2 in the final set. I hope this is the year he has a re-breakthrough. It is astonishing how consistent he is at losing in the 4th round of a major. I'd really love to see how he could progress with a Ferrer, or even Murray, QF draw.

He was exonerated for that. He actually really had the yips on his serve. He didn't throw the match in question --at least the powers that be believe this now.

This is a win-win except for the injury. Hope they both have a great year!

Gasquet's new toughness has now been showcased for all to see. Piatti is doing a great job.
