I want to use a size or two smaller in the grip so...

Whats the disadvantage of using 2 overgrips rather than the standard overgrip + replacement grip...

The replacement grip that came with my racquet is Wilson MicroDri feel (quite thin)...

Replacement grips are usually pretty cushy, so using two overgrips will probably be a harsher feel than replacement + overgrip. However, if you're looking for a smaller size, you may have to use just a single overgrip over the bevels.

I have the original grip + overgrip + overgrip on my racquets. I don't notice anything negative.

If you replace the grip with just two overgrips, you won't get the benefit of shock absorption that it provides so the shock you get will be largely unattenuated, hence a much harsher feel. In addition, the bevels are going to be much more pronounced, which might lead to blisters on your hand.

If you're going to go ahead with this, use three overgrips at least.

Not necessarily but arm fatigue will set in more quickly. A tired arm could lead to lapses in your technique, which in turn could lead to arm and elbow injuries.

Now, if you can hit the sweetspot consistently, the amount and frequency of shock that you will experience will be greatly reduced. You get those shocks on mishits so hitting the node is crucial.

I use three overgrips no original. Even for two overgrips I dont see what is so special about the replacement grip that will make it absorb more shock. 2 overgrips will abosrb as much shock as a replacement and 3 will absorb more.

why not just play with no overgrip if your grips is too big with an overgrip?

Thiemo de Bakker (spelling?), the junior player, uses 2 overgrips without base grip. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, but there's the possibility of torqueing the buttcap.

that's my point. replacement grip feels so much better, why use some cheap over grip.

it lasts longer too. the price of changing 3 over-grips is almost equal to change 1 replacement grip.

and to another question in this thread: since you are using an over grip all the time, it does not matter whether you have a replacement grip, if you can wrap the overgrips well. The replacement is always underneath your over grip. You don't feel it. Some pros just wrap over grips without any replacement grips.

IMO, Wilson micro dry series of replacement grips feel better than the over grips I tried. They are tacky, but not too much. they have holes to absorb your sweat. I believe other brands of R-Gs are good too. (To say I am not advertising for them.)

Why would overgrip over overgrip feel rounded and replacement grip and overgrip not.. thats the dumbest thing I ever heard.. overgrip is very thin.. if anything overgrip over overgrip should feel very beveled, not round.

I personally buy 4 1/2 racquets.. rip off the replacement grip, and add two overgrips. This gives me the perfect size grip I want and I feel no negatives from the two overgrips.

I buy 4 5/8, take off the original grip and then use an overgrip only.
It was done on experiment, and now I prefer it. Good feel for the the bevels and enough cushoning. Size is about 4 1/2.

I buy about 30 overgrips at a time and the price is the same for about 17 overgrips as one leather grip.
