As a Roger Federer fan , this is an unbelievable day. I'm sure it must be the same feelings for million others and to an extent the great man himself. Initially it was just waiting for the win to happen. 2005 he could have won, he was more powerful than Nadal but made too errors and lost. OK Fine, 2006 he will sort out. Started off brilliantly like today. 6-1 in first set. But then Nadal turned it around. Continuous high balls to backhand and Roger crumbled (even though every other aspect he was superior than Nadal). 2007- Hopes rekindled after Hamburg win. Now Roger was handling high balls to backhand better and has beaten him first time on clay. Never mind tiredness. In final, First set he was nervous. 2nd set he played brilliantly. But 3rd and 4th Nadal upped his game and won. 2008 - Two shocks before French. First in Monte Carlo where despite being 4-0 up(2nd set) Roger couldn't win. Same in Hamburg from 5-1 up. And the worst drubbing in 2008 finals. Plus Nadal was so dominant throughout the tournament. All hopes lost for French. The focus was whether Roger can capture some slams in other surfaces because Nadal made inroads there also. Madrid win didn't fool anymore. It was a fast surface plus Nadal was tired. But the unexpected happened. French Open this year was definitely faster. And Robin Soderling played a super duper match to do the unthinkable. And Roger Federer though past his prime did the enormous fight. First Acacuso, then Haas (the tremendous comeback) and then against Del Potro he was getting overpowered for 3 sets. But he came back again. And in the finals, the occasion got too much for Soderling, plus heavy conditions which made his serve returnable, plus Roger's perfect strategy for playing Soderling. The unthinkable has happened. Oh what a relief. Expect Roger to see at full free flow at Wimbledon, whether he wins or not.
