If you could pit one player from the past at his peak and put him up against a player also at his peak from the present, who would it be and why?

There are several I'd love to see but top of the list is Federer/McEnroe.

In brief, I'd like to see how Fed coped with one of the best lefthanded serves of all time and how he'd deal with it on return, particularly on his b/h side.
I'd also like to see Fed's passing game under pressure with Mc taking away his time and space with his S/V and general aggression.

Conversely I'd like to see how McEnrow fared on the occasions he couldn't get forward and Fed kept him on or near the baseline and how his backhand fared against Fed's forehand etc

I'd like to see what tactics they'd employ.

Finally I'd like to see how Federer handled the McEnroe rages and if they got to him.

OP, there are several threads like yours in the Former Pro Player Talk. Well, I would pull Marat Safin up with Alex Bogomolov Jr.

I'd love to see Ervand Gasparyan play Federer, just to show what a joke that is. Fereder plays the risky first serve and the random half-volley, but Gasparyan hits a much cleaner ball from the baseline, so I think he'd win most of the time, except maybe indoors.

I would love to see a match between internet sensation Helen V. Beden and SoBad, even though it will be painfully one-sided both politically and tennistically, with SoBad finally retiring at 0-6 0-5 0-40 citing a sprained conscience. :)

The name of the forum section suggests that the discussion is intended to be limited to professional tennis players. Your spurious remarks are therefore highly inappropriate in this context, even if we chose to ignore the fact that they are clearly intended to further a nefarious vendetta against a respectable poster, which we don’t.

Hehe. I like how SoBad gets all prim and proper when he is angry. No "Fred", no "Fededer" no "Feder". Just all good spelling and grammar :).

So Sooo Sooo Sorry about missing the part about citing only professional tennis players. In that case, I'd like to see a matchup between Muster and Nadal on clay, or Edberg v. Federer on carpet or Djokovic v. Safin on slow hard court.

Thanks Adam for admonishing Polaris on my behalf. Any effect of his clever remarks aimed to evoke deep-seated anger within my inner self has now been mitigated by your timely reprimand.

How are you? Don't worry about those posters. They are not so important to our life, aren't they. Just ignored their posts and move on to the next thread. Honestly, I am very proud of you because your English is not bad at all. Keep working hard and have a faith in god. You would get anything you wish for here in this country. I worked very hard to get what I have now. Just sharing with you ya.

Edberg vs Pete on 90's grass. Nearly happened but thwarted twice once by the back hand of Courier and another time by Goran's 37 aces.

Another, Graf vs Court on grass.

    BJK vs Serena on Grass.

Evert vs Hingis. This is something that even Evert had interest in.

Nice matchups but I'm least thrilled about Edberg and Sampras since we did see them play at or near their primes.

Graf against Court on grass would be fun.

I would think Pancho Gonzalez against Pete Sampras or Federer on a fast surface.

that would be the longest and most boring match ever with the victor (and loser) both collapsing after the match ended at 7-6 6-7 7-6 6-7 98-96

I choose peak Federer vs peak Federer at the US Open

Can't think many suggestions that would stand out to me at the AO right now, despite the Ozz being up there to me as one of the best slams.

    Nice ones. :)

The first would be the clash of insanely talented players and the second a battle of intimidation. I wonder what venues would make for their best clashes.

    Great ones too.

    At the AO. :)

I think rebound ace would be more fair to both players and create better ball striking, plexicushion would be too slow I guess.

I think this match up has potential at the USO too. :)
