70's has Borg as GOAT
80's has no goat
90's has Sampras as GOAT
00's has Federer as GOAT
What is your definition of GOAT? I thought there was only 1 GOAT? Do you mean GOAD (greatest of all decade)? Or GOAT contender?
What is the point that you are trying to make? Please explain.
i guess better word is "dominant player"
GOAT discussion has one another problem
its tough to compare wooden and graphite era
so there might even be 2 GOAT's but definitely not one in each generation
Yeah, it's between Lendl and McEnroe for the 80s. It's tough, b/c so many good players played in both the 70s and 80s. Mac had 6 slams in the eighties, Lendl 7
Lendl was the best player of the 80's he was no.1 for longer than Mcenroe.
id say lendl
GOAT is "Greatest of ALL TIME". There is no such thing as "Decade GOAT".
these players were considered the GOAT during the decade that they played. i see where the OP is coming from
Definitely Lendl. Hasn't he been in like 19 grand slam finals? That's more than anyone ever I think, even Federer.
Lendl laid too many eggs at the slam finals in which he should have won for being a GOAT candidate. Hes like the Kobe Bryant post season egg layer of the 80s
Lendl was the best player of the 80's
Mac had thge 84 season which muddles the waters
connors was still playing well untill 84
and lendl just about dominated everyone from 85 onwards
it was one of the greatest eras in tennis
edberg, wilander, becker (prime) etc
the 80s have an argument as almost being good as the 90s.... and thes 90s have an argument as almost being good as 2003-2007
