Better safe than sorry buy or borrow a calibrator. Once you identify if it is right you should never need it again.

Buy a fish scale, they are digital and work a lot better than the spring models, plus cheaper. I picked one up at Wal-Mart for under $20 and it is spot on.

Drop weights are pretty accurate, cranks you definitely need one.

Keep in mind when you purchase a used machine the warranty does not transfer, so if anything breaks you are stuck with replacement cost.

The Flex 100 is a simple machine; it does have a linear gripper with a spring clutch which beats most of the competition. I would verify everything works, check the clamps, maybe string a frame then make your decision.

I do not own a Flex 100, but on a Star machine with a spring clutch and linear gripper. The only issue I have had is the clutch spring dies around 400 rackets and cost $14 to replace. I usually purchase 2, 1 for backup.

How to use the linear gripper with clutch.
