Is it to easy to determine the best player of 2012 as follows?: 0.75 points for each win at the Olympics, 1 point for each win in a Masters Series tournament, 1.5 points for each win at the ATP Tour World Finals, and 2 points for each win at Grand Slam tournament. Federer 42 points at Grand Slams 34.50 points at Masters Series 3.75 points at Olympics 80.25 total points Djokovic 48 points at Grand Slams 51 points at Masters Series 3 points at Olympics 102 total points Murray 44 points at Grand Slams 28 points at Masters Series 4.5 points at Olympics 76.50 total points Note: I counted a Walkover as a win and the player earned points for it. Federer skipped two Masters Series, Canada and Paris. Murray skipped Madrid. Djokokvic played them all and should be rewarded for doing so.

OP's system is good as far as it goes. But it needs to factor in HTH, tanking, MTOs, and appearance of GF

OP's method seems great. Although i like Federer best in 2012 , i must agree Nole is the best achiever over the longer haul of the entire year and thats what does count. You would like Nate Silver.

A lot of trouble to come up with what is basically a poor mans version of the ATP points system! The one thing folks could additionally consider is that the olympics has more prestige than a 750 so, you could consider giving a bit extra to fed and murray than the ATP points they received.
